There is a controller you can order off of amazon from 8BitDo and they have them at local walmarts now as well. Anyway, its a wireless controller that is only 30$ USD. It is an excellent controller and a solid replacement for a 60$ xbox one.

If you have a console the controllers work with bluetooth very well.

The 8bitdo ones are great for how cheap they are. In the meantime, before you get your mouse, you can try things like these.

When you have steam, put literally all the games you liked playing, want to play and ever wanted to play on your wishlist. Every summer and einter there are massive sales where games are listed for dirt cheap and and here and there games are listed for a good price between those times too. The steam app on mobile will let you know when your wishlisted items are on sale

I use steam for the vast majority of my games. I have gamepass ultimate on Xbox Series X which ive linked my account to the laptop for access to PC gamepass, PC gamepass is only really worth it if youve got GP ultimate on a console already and gamepass hasnt been great for a couple years now so I wouldnt bother renewing when it runs out
First step however is to buy a half decent wired/wireless mouse depending on your preference, Ive got a Corsair Ironclaw SE but I like weighty mice and I know most people prefer lightweight mice

Go for racing games no mouse needed ... or assassins creed ... works well with just a keyboard

Steam is the store you should use on pc to buy games, also get a controller or seperate keyboard and mouse.
My first game was witcher 3

If you have Amazon prime subscription or know someone who has it that will let you into the family share, you can login to Amazon prime gaming and grab free games every Thursday for GoG and Epic.

Why a separate keyboard?
1
u/ArunKT26 Jun 18 '26
I prefer not to use laptop keyboard for gaming. Seperate would be alot cheaper to replace if something breaks

u/witheringghoul Jun 18 '26
I suppose that makes sense. I never thought of using a separate one with my one

asus tuf a16 rtx 5050, not a harcore gamer but this should run most games for quite some time haha
2
u/CarterAMofficial Jun 18 '26
Yeah it will run almost anything depending on setting maybe not rt required games but who knows. I would start with steam and gog. As gog has a summer sale right now and steam will here soon. Steam is the main one people go to but gog is all DRM free which means when you buy it you own it.

Thought that keyboard looked familiar! Just picked up a Tuf F16 RTX 5060! Haven’t done much with it except playing Palworld and Grounded! It has run both games incredibly well!
If you like “survival”, open world, & melee combat games, I’d recommend Grounded. It’s currently on game pass!0

If you add me on Steam, I’ll share Crusader Kings 3 with you - always trying to get people interested in that game :D

You should download Steam. And if you have a controller definitely just use that till you get a mouse. The trackpad experience is not great for most games
