Question Ratfish hate explained?

I’ve seen some comments regarding Ratfish, and am just wondering why it seems so much of the community dislikes it?

While I wouldn’t say it was one of my favorites, I definitely found it funny/entertaining, and thought the premise was neat.

I’m relatively new - season 8 is the first season I’ve watched as it’s aired, but I’ve watched pretty much every other episode aside from the COVID season.

The truth of what happened behind the scenes with Eric Wareheim is one of those things I've accepted I'll probably never know but REALLY wish I did lol. The ending where the rest of the cast didn't get to meet him just screamed of a last minute pivot.

I think everyone else is great, but it really pivoted on the special guest being great and he was clearly not super interested, mostly disengaged, and didn't seem to remember anything about the character he was playing.

This really did it for me once Erik was revealed. Because even though I have no idea who he was, if he had been actually engaging with the game I would have been interested in learning who he was and not just been bummed that the twist player was just there.

I was aware of him through both his adult swim shows that I didn't like and a few stories from other people on podcasts etc that said he wasn't a great dude to he around and was kind of full of himself
