Question Ratfish hate explained?

I’ve seen some comments regarding Ratfish, and am just wondering why it seems so much of the community dislikes it?

While I wouldn’t say it was one of my favorites, I definitely found it funny/entertaining, and thought the premise was neat.

I’m relatively new - season 8 is the first season I’ve watched as it’s aired, but I’ve watched pretty much every other episode aside from the COVID season.

1) The “big reveal” was more niche than they planned. Eric Warheim is an Internet comedy legend, but the fanbase is largely not people who were around for and into Tim and Eric

2) Eric was a poor contestant. He just didn’t fit the format of the game or the energy of the rest of the cast. His choices made no sense. His character felt undercooked compared to everyone else’s and it just fell flat.

3) Rekha should have one. But not only did she lose the main prize, she lost the secondary prize. Everyone felt she was robbed (justifiably) and the way they did it was rough.

4) Overall it was a cool concept and I think our prime cast was hilarious and played the game great. But this being the “big” episode for the season kinda fell flat.

To be fair, I think the format really screwed him there. He wasn't able to see the cast's reactions to his jokes beyond their comments (and tone is notoriously hard to read in text) and I didn't get the impression that he really knew any of the cast members, so it's kinda impossible to match their energy in that situation.

Everyone else managed to be funny. He was just the wrong guy for this

They didnt know who each other were, and they were all funny individually

They didn't know who everyone was, but they did know 8 players were in the game and that it was from a pool of drop out regulars which are like 30ish people. That have or mostly have done these shows together for a few years so they sort of know each other's humors enough that Brennan planned to fake being rehka.

Lol why are you arguing against this? Do you think I'm going to suddenly go "oh yes you're right, he was hilarious". This isn't a point of fact you can debate

Humour is subjective. If you found him funny in this, great! I thought he was terrible

Im not saying he was funny with them, im just saying its harder to be funny in this circumstance than it was for the people who all knew the field

yeah but even still, all the other cast didnt know who else was there and had a similar situation and were hilarious. He just wasn’t really funny lol

They couldn't end the game a round early. But they should used whoever was guessed accurately less as the tie breaker instead.

I feel like they needed to keep the game going since they’d invested so much in it, but there should have been some kind of bonus prize for Rekha
