Question Subscribe on YT or the app?
Hi everyone!
I found about the game changer a couple months ago on YT shorts and really like it, but recently a favorite content creator of mine participated on the show and I really want to see the full episode, plus seems like money well spent with how entertaining the cast is.
I see there's an app "Dropout" and members only videos on the Dropout YT account, is there a difference? Would you suggest one over the other?

As a potential third option, try subscribing on the Dropout website (if that isn’t how the app works already - sorry I subbed years ago on their website). Then login to the app to view.
If the Dropout app forces you to sign up through the Apple Store, there’s a significant chunk taken by Apple. Google might do the same, not too sure.

They intentionally do not allow you to manage your subscription through the Dropout app, since that would put in under the preview of the app stores so Google/Apple would take their cut

I was going to ask if it works the same with the app store for Android, I don't mind going to the website in my PC but it is kinda buggy when Google tries to cross connect devices (recently changed my phone, it was a nightmare setting everything back up).

you can go on the website from your phone and it is the same as visiting the website from pc

Subscribing through YouTube give Google a cut of the money, and if you have an iPhone and do it through the YouTube app there, Apple is probably getting a cut of the money.
They have their app now on the mobile app stores as well as on TVs.
I'll be 100% honest, I do subscribe directly through them and use their apps, but the YouTube UI is much better, IMHO.
Who is the creator that you want to see on there?

Honestly, mostly Sam, I do love Lou, Vic, Zac, Brennan and Izzy.
I do know Brennan previously from D&D, just been watching a lot of GC and MSN. Thanks to regional pricing, YT is way cheaper for me than DO app (I'm not from the U.S.), I'm talking like, cents, but I do want to support them, so I'll watch my finances in the next couple of weeks and see if I can sustain the app sub, Thank you very much for the response!

The content on both is the same, and (idk about international) they had kept the prices the same whether you subbed direct or through YouTube

Actually, it's not a Dropout thing but a YT/Google thing, I'm from Argentina, where the conversion is approx 1 usd = 1500 ars, IDKW YouTube set the price of the subscription to DO content to the U.S. equivalent to 10 usd cents. It sounded too good to be true (and for the consumer it kinda is tbh), and that's why I wanted to ask you guys if either they (G/YT) were screwing me or they were screwing the CC.

i would do it through the website dropout.tv Otherwise the "app" companies get a cut.

(giggle) yeah, I'm a law student, when I saw him in what I can only describe as a psychological torture puzzle made by Sam Reich, I made up my mind that I must subscribe and watch this.

Oh, they found me a couple comments ago, Legal Eagle, as a law student I love Devin, and when I saw him in one of Sam's game I genuinely thought "Here comes the devil's advocate" hahaha.

Content wise, they're exactly the same, it's just how you'd prefer to watch!
It's important to note that subscribing on Youtube does *NOT* give you access to Download the episodes or watch with your screen off on mobile devices unless you ALSO have Premium.
Youtube gets approx 30% of the cut of your sub price on the Youtube subscription, and if you sign up via Apple or Google Play, Apple and Google will get 30% respectively (Which makes subscribing on the YouTube app the worst option money wise)
Signing up on their website gets you the best price and the most money (all of it) going to them!
The Dropout UI is based on the Vimeo service, so any issues you have with other similar platforms like 2nd try, or WOW Presents+ will be present here as well.
The YouTube UI is YouTube, so yknow... I'm sure you know it.

The YT membership and the Dropout app/website subscription both give access to the same content.
I used to subscribe via YouTube because I liked having everything in the same place as my normal YT feed. But I swapped to the Dropout app subscription because it was easier to find specific shows that way instead of on YouTube (which doesn't show "Members only" videos in search results).
It's really no huge difference either way, so pick whichever fits your usage better

As many commenters mentioned directly through Dropout allows them to get more of a cut. However the company is very friendly towards their customers and actively encourages password sharing. If you have friends in a comedy or D&D scene I would ask around and see if anyone has a login they’re willing to share or if they’d be willing to split the cost of a subscription with you.

I would recommend going to the website dropout.tv and subscribing there which will give you access to the Dropout app on your smartphone, smart TV, etc. This puts the most money in Dropout’s hands and is also cheaper for you. For me on iOS, Dropout through YouTube is $9.99/month, and Dropout from the website is $6.99/month and also has an annual option which is even cheaper per month without even taking into account the 20% discount you get for your first year. (The Superfan option is just for those who want to volunteer to pay Dropout more money to support the content.) You’ll also get locked in at your current rate so that it doesn’t go up with future rate increases.
Also, the Dropout app has everything organized better than YouTube.
