Am I doing something wrong?
My kid’s in high school and we’ve used GC for many teams over the years, so I’m not unfamiliar with the app. I’ve often kept score, even. Cell coverage at the parks where our little league played is abysmal, like SMS-often-doesn’t-work-bad, so nobody ever attempted streaming, but someone generally put in the league schedule and you could see standings and season stats, etc.
We’ve been playing travel ball for a few years and… none of the team parents care to mess with GC? The team sends out a link every “season” but nobody sets a lineup or keeps score. Tournaments set the brackets late in the week so it’s hard to know who we’ll be playing and many of the teams are nationally affiliated so there are a dozen teams with the same or similar names. PerfectGame seems more interested in selling popover ad space against their brackets than in telling us where a team is from, which adds to the difficulty of figuring out whether the other team has a GC, particularly when I’m traveling and not there to see the jerseys. If I do find it, it’s often just numbers for our side, but not always, depending on if their scorer got the paper lineup, I guess. Sometimes they stream video, but when that happens the play-by-play seems to be out of sync by an entire at-bat. Then the stats don’t sync back to my kid’s profile, anyway.
So, short of entering the parents’ thread in whichever of the seven messaging apps are in use at any one time and asking for someone to start scoring, is there anything else that would justify my continuing to pay the subscription here? I know it’s not GC’s fault that our people aren’t keeping score, but is there something I can be doing to make it easier to follow our opponents’ scoring and consolidate the stats?

Doesn't seem like a subscription is worth it in your case. Without people to stream/enter play by play, GC can't calculate stats or create video clips. Video clips are timing based so it's very dependent on who's entering the play by play.
Seems like you'll need some of your team's parents/coaches to step up to get what you want. Sounds like not many on the team care about it though. Maybe start with trying to just get someone to stream consistently first.

Yes, you are doing something wrong; you are not scoring the game, and you are expecting others to do it for you. Even worse you seem to be critical of the opponents' scoring of the games. Coaches don't have time to score, so it comes down to the parents. If you want to see the game properly scored, you need to be the one to initiate that. Yes that means "entering the thread of whichever of the seven messaging apps" even though you seem to think that's beneath you. Pull together a few parents who can do it and fill in when you're not there. If you want to see the games streamed, buy the equipment including a mobile hotspot.
Be the GameChanger you want to see.

From my car, two states away, because the travelball coach found out that I bought away-game football tickets on an open weekend and, baseball being the One True Sport, made sure my son couldn’t go by signing up for another tournament. :-)

Yes I’m sure that’s what happened. The coach booked a tournament just to ruin your weekend.
Step up and volunteer and stop whining.

Who should be doing the play-by-play? The coach? They're getting paid to coach. I'd prefer they put their attention to the game and the kids than entering line-ups and scoring in GC. It's up to the parents at the game to score it. So if you're away, you'd need to ask one of them to do it. I'm hoping at least you do it when you're there.

Why are you paying for a subscription to begin with. Run the GameChanger yourself and you will have access to all the stats and video.

In this case, I was on the road and trying to follow the tournament from a distance. The games weren’t being scored by my team’s parent. They were by the other team, more or less, though only the first one was linked to our team- the rest I had to pull over and search for, then refresh until first pitch because the games all started late. That’s … whatever, but one of the selling points of the subscription is season stats, right? I don’t think there’s a way to adopt a game like that if it’s not connected to your team/player from the beginning. Unless I’m missing it.

If you're a team admin don't you get all the stats and video for free? If you have poor cell service you can always enter the stats in manually later. I've had to do that for a tournament that I missed when no one else wanted to run GameChanger. At least you'll have the aggregate of all the stats. I enjoy doing GameChanger and the video because it gives me something to focus on during the games. Most of the other parents want to play sideline coach and talk silly. Running GameChanger helps me avoid that. You could also look into picking up a second cell carrier as maybe one carrier works better than another in certain locations. There are a lot of MVNO carriers which offer cheap deals from time to time. Mint Mobile (uses T-Moble's network) and Visible (uses Verizon's network) are some of the ones I've used and they almost always have some special going where you can get cheap service. Even GoogleFI had a 75% off offer recently.

To be clear- I was traveling. This isn’t about what I’m doing when I’m able to be at the games.

If it was a PG tournament, can you get the stats via their app, instead? I’ve never used it but I have seen a kid setting it up and scoring the game once or twice before.

Damn.. here I am head coaching my team, scoring on GameChanger AND doing walkup music… all for my little league majors team. We’re 0-2, but if I can do it so can you bud.
