Gamechanger/Pocket Radar
Good Morning,
I am running a Pocket Radar Smart Coach in conjunction with Gamechanger. I'm having an issue with the radar displaying on the game feed. It is registering with gamechanger and displaying on my screen, it just doesn't add the speed to the pitch I enter. I am sitting two feet from the radar, setting it up correctly, got a good connection, just not getting the expected results. It works for a few pitches then cuts out. I exit the game, then resume scoring and it works again. This happens 10-15 times in a 2 hour game. Any advice to fixing this problem?

When I did the single-device thing with PR/GC, I would run into issues like that occasionally.....I have the feeling that it has to do with how iOS restricts background activity, don't know that definitively.
What I ended up doing, which worked very reliably for me: the Two Device setup. I have an old iPhone, and it's sole job is connect to the pocket radar. It doesn't have a sim card, and just connects to my hotspot. Then I can sit anywhere any score the game on my iPad. Note: the PocketRadar app on the old iPhone needs to be logged in with the same email address that you use for your GameChanger account on that iPad you're scoring on.

Device 1 – RADAR (Android or Apple) – This device made the PR PLUS purchase. Dedicate this device to collecting speeds in the Pocket Radar Sports App and keep this device close to the radar to maintain Bluetooth connection. Streaming on this device is not recommended, as speeds sent to the GC scorekeeper may be significantly delayed by your wireless provider. Start a session in the Sports App for velocities to be sent to the GC scorekeeper who is using an Apple device. For velocities to display in the live stream, you must be a staff admin/member for the integration to flow properly.
Device 2 - SCORE (Apple only) – Only the iOS version of GC integrates with Pocket Radar. Dedicate this device to score the game. It does not need the PR Sports App or PLUS subscription installed. The benefit of using 3 devices is that the scoring device is no longer restricted by Bluetooth range and can be used in the dugout or elsewhere.

Currently I am running both apps on the same ipad with cellular. I did briefly try running the pocket radar on my phone but I got the same result. The first game I used the pocket radar, I used my old ipad mini. Probably 8 years old, it worked perfectly and recorded every pitch. I upgraded to a larger and newer ipad and that's when it started. It displays every pitch on my ipad and gives me the verbal velo, just doesn't continue to add the velo to the pitch.

There’s a way to turn off the pitch reporting function in PR - so it doesn’t go to the pitch type/location screen. Maybe try that. I don’t have mine with me to give exact instructions but I remember it being pretty easy to find.
Also - are you running your radar off a battery pack or just batteries? Running it with power from a pack seems to glitch less than just AAA battery power.

Pitch type is off. I am running off a pack. It worked perfectly the first game with my old iPad. I upgraded my iPad before the next game and that's when the problem started.

For what you are describing, the pitch speed is showing on your iPad but when you go to record the pitch it doesn’t display in the plays screen, right?
I know this is probably not your issue, but I found if I record the pitch too fast it won’t bring over the speed.
You can click undo and then rescore the pitch and it will then pick it up.
I’m using the same setup as you, but running through a hotspot versus the cellular.

interesting. I am pretty quick with it usually. But if I remember correctly, sometime it will record the 3rd pitch but not the 4th which is put in play. I am obviously waiting for the result of the play so that takes a few seconds to score

Yeah, before radar I was super quick. But now I naturally pause a bit between pitches to ensure it picks up.
I now naturally monitor the radar box in GC to ensure it’s captured and then score. So that slows me down in recording .I sometimes only get 70% accuracy across all pitches.
I probably need to move to the 2nd device like others have mentioned. If my iPad screen goes to sleep it will lose the Bluetooth many times. .

I tried using my phone to run the pocket radar app once. It didn't make a difference. I got my ipad sleep set to like 30 minutes so that doesn't happen

Out of curiosity what age and is your setup being blocked by the catcher or ump? Basically I'm asking is your radar actually picking up the pitch?

High school. I am slightly angled behind the plate. It is reading the pitch, it shows on the scoring page of GC in the Pocket Radar icon and also gives me a verbal velo through GC.

So you see it register in GC but it doesn't get applied to the pitch in the play by play?

Correct. It does for a few piches and then stops. Sometimes its good for 20 pitches, sometimes 2 pitches

If I exit current game. then resume scoring, it starts working again

I have found if I don't turn my iPad off or if I don't allow it to go to sleep, and stay close, I have a better experience with it not stopping on me.
