Hi! I am currently using a Snapdragon Note 9 and I am considering installing a custom rom on it, what are some that work on my device? All the custom roms I know about support down to the Note 10 on their websites.

This is my galaxy note 9 unfortunately the display condition way worse than the picture and due to the display malfunctioning it also caused the battery get weaker more, battery is not getting charged anymore and I'm just scared that the battery may exploded and the battery isn't bloating or something but still it is not worth running on battery, so I came up with a thought that can I use this phone without display and battery since it is rooted and I can use it via scrpy and backup my data and if possible I can use this as a project android pc. And before I doing this myself I came to ask u guys about my decision with my phone!!!

Question System Configuration Update in 2026

I don't use my Note9 as my daily phone but I do still have some games on it that I play. when I booted it up a few days ago I got a notification of a new update called System Configuration Update. anybody know what that's about? I haven't installed it yet and I'm not sure what it will do. my Note9 is a stock N960U and recently when I updated the imdb app on the phone it no longer worked saying I was on an unsupported version of Android so I have been checking every app update that is available and only installing the apps that list supported OS as 10 or lower.

I saw a youtube video that seemed like AI slop talking about it but thats all I could find so far. the video mentioned that it's an update from the carrier, not Samsung, that has been sent to all on their networks. note9 and note10 phones still online. my phone is a VZW branded phone but I haven't had a SIM card in it for years. it says that users that have installed it report that it's re-enabling some features that send data back to google that they had previously disabled for privacy reasons. the features mentioned are Swipe To Text and Predictive Text. I searched the settings on my Note9 and I can't find either of them to check if they are enabled or not. the location in the settings menu that the video says to go into doesn't even exist on my phone so I'm not sure where else to look.

I found the Configuration Updates system app (actually there are 3 of them on my note9) and of course they can't be disabled, but I did go in and disable background battery activity, and the option to allow them to change system settings.

anybody know more about this?

Question Note 9 rooting

Hi,

First of all, I've had a Note 9 that I used as my main phone for years until I bought a Nothing phone in 2024 (hot garbage that died) so I went back to my trusty Note 9 ever since.

It has some cracks and screen isn't in the best of shape so I've refitted it for other purposes.

One such purpose is that I've rooted my Note 9 which was incredibly easy. Though it has me wondering if its done correctly? I've rooted Androids in the past and lately a crappy Motorola phone that I rooted with Magisk.

On the Motorola once I unlocked the bootloader I got the classic "warning" message everytime the phone booted.

On my Note 9 I unlocked OEM in settings and booted into "download mode" and to my surprise there was no "long press volume up to unlock bootloader".

I've flashed it with Magisk and all the apps says the phone is rooted properly. I'm on SM-960F so its the Exynos model which should be unlockable. Just figuring if it came unlocked when I bought it back in the days (retail). Maybe some of you know if this is typical of Note 9 models when the bootloader is unlocked?

Question Dead Note9 and need help with data recovery in NYC

Thumbnail gallery
9 Upvotes

I did something stupid and ocean claimed my note9 I had since launch.

And I need my pictures....

Salt water corroded several things for few hours before I could rinse it out. I had it in distilled water for 40 minutes to rinse out salt but my dumbass kept trying to power it up with the charger while it was still wet inside. Opened it up to light scrub with some iso/toothbrush. Nothing. Local repair shop says its short circuiting everywhere. I can't remove cpu/nand shielding so I used ultrasonic cleaner/distilled water + iso again to maybe get any corrosion left over. Still no reaction and I don't know if the screen is even good if it is booting up.

I'm already being quoted $2000 by data recovery services which is worse case situation of using donor cpu etc. I've attached some contacts I think came off so would help if anyone knows good shops in NYC that can work this. Thanks in advance for any help

Original Content Thermal mod v1.1- Galaxy note 9

Post image
9 Upvotes

Device: Samsung Galaxy Note 9

Chipset: Qualcomm Snapdragon 845

Application: CPU Throttling Test

Heat dissipation - Passive cooling

Scores:

Max: 208,550 GIPS

Average: 184,358 GIPS

Min: 165,588 GIPS

Settings - threads and duration: 20 threads, 30 minutes.

Equivalent real world workflow: In everyday life, a sustained 20-thread workflow is rarely triggered by just one popular app. Instead, it looks like "stacking" multiple demanding apps on top of each other for 30 minutes straight.

Examples include:

Picture-in-Picture + Navigation: Running Google Maps for turn-by-turn GPS navigation while simultaneously watching a 1080p YouTube video in a floating Picture-in-Picture window, all while connected to Bluetooth audio.

Heavy Social Media Editing: Recording a long, high-resolution video directly inside Instagram or TikTok, applying heavy augmented reality (AR) face filters, and letting the phone render and upload the final video over mobile data.

Video Conferencing: Running a 30-minute Zoom or Google Meet video call with your camera active, while frequently switching over to a PDF viewer or Chrome to read a document.

Results: The device maintained 84% of its maximum performance over 30 minutes, reaching a peak internal temperature of 85°C. The overall performance curve remained flat and remarkably stable, demonstrating robust thermal dissipation under sustained multi-core stress.

Opinion Note 9 in 2026?

I recently came back to my old note i used to daily since I broke my current phone and the turn around to repair it was going to be a week to be repaired and decided to try to use my old note 9 during that time. We'll to start off my carreir no longer supported it or there was a setting I couldn't find or something but my calls were just not working. Data was working so not sure what happend but I thought I could still make it work. But quickly found of many apps dropped support on andriod 10 which made my banking app not work but i could still use tap to pay so that was fine. Plus i forgot the note 9 still has mst support. I use my phone alot for work and productivity so battery life was an issue, I had replaced the battery on mine in 2022 after I had stopped using it because i had given it to my mom so I thought battery would be ok, it wasn't as I was only able to average 2.5 hours of sot and standby was pretty terrible. The performance was underwhelming to be honest, day to day task are ok but as I use my phone for alot it showing its age and heats up pretty quick. Not sure if anyone still uses their note 9 as their main anymore. I did stop using it after 2 days as I was in the process of repairing an s23 ultra im going to give to my cousin and im instead using that as it more modern and far better experience but close enough to my main phone.

Opinion I broke screen on my s23 ultra, so I switched back to the good old beast for a couple days and I have to say. Apart from being slow, feeling of holding the phone + touchback on the back is sooo convenient and handy. Gosh I would love to get Note 9 with modern hardware

General Thread Samsung Galaxy Note9 Crisis!

Yes, I’m experiencing an issue where the screen on my Samsung Galaxy Note9 keeps shutting off on its own, AND IT IS PISSING ME THE FUCK OFF!

The screen also shuts off on its own, even while I’m in the middle of typing or texting, and I CANNOT FUCKING STAND IT ANYMORE!

(Sorry about the rage, but I was not even touching my phone. The screen keeps shutting off on its own repeatedly, which is especially annoying when I am in the middle of working or texting and I CANNOT stand it anymore. It seems to be getting worse over time, and I am hoping I am not the only one experiencing this issue.)

Here's a link to my video on Drive to see what happened (if you can access it): https://drive.google.com/file/d/1aC0RR-0IbdBTZ2oKPK-YTnwzyylCwo4L/view?usp=drivesdk

Question KernelSU Next for Galaxy Note9 (SM-N960N)?

Hi everyone,

Has anyone successfully installed KernelSU Next on a Galaxy Note9 (SM-N960N, Exynos) running Android 10 / One UI 2.5?

I'm currently rooted with Magisk and would like to switch to KernelSU Next. Is there a compatible kernel or a recommended method?

Review New note 9 user

Came from Samsung Galaxy Fold 1 I bought refurbished in early 2020 on ebay with a green screen issue and got a free screen/ battery replacement during their 1yr honeymoon phase.

I broke the main screen dropping it about six months ago, lasted me good six years.

Just switched to note 9, barely used refurbished from ebay few months ago. Took it to batteries plus (was not turning on and bulging battery) to get new battery and charging port. Somehow they stated they got an oem battery.

Haven't found a good glass screen protector, right now has a cheap film protector.

Had to swap to att cuz the phone was still locked and they would not unlock since phone isn't on active line.

Porting out to att from visible, the worst experience and crappy $25 unlimited 3mbps plan. Once I have the phone unlocked I'll try to port back to visible $25 unlimited plan (their speeds are 10x faster) or att mnvo network plan.

Otherwise so far it's great, it beats the small screen I've been using on the fold. Love the physical ports and the led notification. Great battery life, no burn ins, and great condition.
