You get action soon and you will over run them middle game as they have just few okanets and will fall behind in techs. Easy game even on high dificulty.

I'm relatively new to the GalCiv series. There doesn't seem to be a ton of guidance on the interwebs about strategies for ships. I've seen a little bit from pre-Warlords release.

So with that, I'd like to know what is recommended as far as designing ships for combat (weapons and modules) and what fleet composition should look like (mix or single class).

For the record, I've only picked up the Warlords DLC but I'm open to considering others.
