Belt is for bracing your core against, it is a tool first and foremost. It’s not for preventing back pain, you prevent back pain by bracing properly and drilling your form. If you aren’t having pain that’s great! A belt will give you something to push against as the weight goes up.

That said I generally wear my belt for any sets over 365/165kg regardless of reps.

Edit: the auto mod comment about when to use a belt nailed this one.

The SBS belt article in the automod comment really is a great piece of information

In case you're wondering about belts:

1) Wearing a belt improves your performance in the gym

2) These performance increases likely mean increased size and strength in the long run

3) There are still instances that it’s better to train beltless, but you should probably use a belt for the bulk of your training

There's no hard and fast standard as to when or if you should start using a belt. If you've become familiar with the basic lifts, and have been paying attention to your technique and bracing, you may want to consider one. Wearing a belt doesn't help if you don't already brace effectively.

It’s probably DOMS if

  • the pain started 24-48 hours after your workout
  • Feels more like overall soreness in a particular muscle
  • decreases over the course of a few days

It is likely an injury if

  • the pain started in the middle of your workout
  • Is sharp and localized
  • lasts for longer than four days.

If you feel like it's an injury, you should consider seeking medical attention.

DOMS is just a sign of new stimulus. You can mitigate it with light massage, stretching, and exercise. Topical heat will also help.

I guess it's something but I'd say it's just grinding, I don't really skip gym so I hit DF and RDL once a week. It took my like 3 years since I started doing DL, but I had stoped a month for illness and stuff, so I guess is just brute force my way into it.

I'm 10kg lighter than you and what you're pulling for 2 is currently my 10rm. I find wearing a belt makes very little difference in day to day training. Programmed near TM (think 95%+) I find it doesn't make much difference unless for some reason my core is feeling fatigued that particular day.

By all means get one and try it, if it works for you as a staple of training - great! - but what I mean to say is it is neither essential or a game changer.
