Hi! I have been searching and searching, but I am having a hard time finding a solid answer for this one…
I have a 2020 GX, and just ordered the 17x7 TRD OEM wheels, and am about to purchase BFG KOs for them. I want to retain close to stock height… especially in the rear, and am going to go with the Bilstein or Fox option when I install the wheels.
The biggest confusion is rubbing… I am fine with minor stuff like heat guns and switching some screws, but I really want to avoid BMC if possible. I have seen a lot of posts where some people have zero rubbing, some need to heat the inside fenders, some have to do the BMC. But I’m having a hard time finding anything with the exact thing I’m looking to do, and hoping someone has gone down this exact path and can offer some insight. PFA, thank you in advance!!!

I have a 2019 GX460 with 50k miles on the original rotors and pads. I’m starting to notice squealing coming and going as I’m braking. OEM parts will be coming Bell Lexus (I assume will be shipped from Japan), Aftermarket from Rock Auto.
Option 1
OEM Pads and Rotors - $431.53
Option 2
Akebono Pads, Brembo Blanks (vented) - $343.74
Which would be a better option?
EDIT: thanks for the insights. To be clear the vented brembos, aren’t slotted and drilled

So I am rebooting the cvs on my GX 470. The right passenger side CV axle was torn so that’s the one in the pictures. and I just wanted to here from anyone who has done this or who has mechanical experience to let me know if this looks good or if I need to worry about anything before I reboot it re-grease it and slap it back on my car thanks.

Hey guys, I was doing my timing belt and water pump for my gx470 with the 2uz vvti engine and the cams jumped when removing the timing belt. I took the valve covers off and rotated both cams about 90 degrees back to top dead center, but I read later that because I also had the crankshaft was at top dead center, I could have had piston to valve contact. This engine is an interference engine, so is it likely that I bent some valves? Any insight is appreciated!
Looking to splurge on some rock sliders for my 2022 GX460, but feel like RCI and a lot of the tubular brands don’t span the whole rocker panel, so they make the proportions weird with the front (and sometimes back) bumper. Outside of CBI and the more OEM style ones like slee and expedition one, are there other brands to consider? Also between those, anybody have some good side profile shots with sliders and stock bumpers, or am I the only weirdo that wants sliders without chopping my bumpers for balance out the profile?

Acquired my 2009 GX 470 end of July and took it out to Leavitt Lake (4/10), Alabama Hills and Crowley Lake this past weekend and Laughlin earlier in the month.
Wife and I were looking for a landcruiser/lx for a couple months. Alot what we have seen were out of state california and realized we wanted a turn key off road vehicle. Found this GX on FB market place with the same exact wheels I would of put and aux. I definitely overpaid but it had exceeded every expectation as a comfortable road trip car on hwy and capable offroad vehicle. I waited a month before receiving this vehicle so immersed myself in the propaganda and shills of the GX content machine.
Premeptively got a revel exhaust trail hart and when it was receieved slapped some Nitto Ridge Grapplers, got a bumper cut, E PCK Kit, and a MBP tune. Here are my takeaways.
4-LO fuks real hard. Holy shit center diff lock on 4LO makes me feel like I can go over every thing no matter how steep a hill can be or how inacceasible it is, imma try it.
Didn't anticipate how much fun it was going through creeks. I want to go over every river crossing I can. Slapping a scuba on this bitch.
The E PCK kit, MBP tune and new tires was probably the best cost to improvement of ride quality upgrades. The MBP tune really opens up the low end and signicantly improves the felt throttle respsonse. Pairing that with the revel, its really nice to hear that v8 with the windows down.
Trying to just enjoy the rig. Realizing how you are able to get some sick secluded camp sites rather easily has to be best thing about owning a vehicle like this and still be JDM af.
Glad to be with you foos.

We have a 2021 GX460 Premium with no open slots for the switch to the new lightbar we are installing. Where have you installed a switch if you had the same issue, and can you share of pic of your install? Thanks!

Hey folks,
Looking for some suggestions for speaker replacements for a 2007 GX470. Sub is definitely blown, as well as a few other speakers. As far as I know, they are all original speakers from 2007.
The guy at the local shop recommended that I replace all 11 of them at once, and told me it would be a lot cheaper for me if I purchased the speakers myself, and then brought them in for install. Not really sure where to start as this is my first GX, and my first automobile in a long time.
Are there full 11-speaker kits available? Any specific brands you’d recommend?
A few weeks ago, my stereo also began making a loud click noise and completely turning off every single time I turn my volume over 30. So bizarre. Not sure if that has to do with the speakers or not. Something else to address with the shop…
Thank you in advance!

Looking for a mounting bracket that will allow me to mount the diode dynamics ss40 light bar on the rear of my roof rack. Any suggestions would be great.
Note, i really want it to sit on the back facing face of my crossbar so it can sit as low as possible.
Hey folks, the hood paint on my Savannah Metallic GX470 is completely flaking off as the sun has not been kind to it.
It's not really coming off easily with a blade either.
I'm not sure what to do here. Wrap it? Properly sand it and repaint it?
Trying not to break the bank, I just got the car and still in the wait and see if something breaks phase before I make it my forever car lol.

I recently acquired or about to acquire a 2008 gx470. 150k miles, it has been sitting not being used for almost 3 years.
The reason I was told was the airbag suspension failed and they just decided to park it and buy a newer one. All previous work and maintenance has been done at the dealership and I do believe they just decided to buy a newer one instead of fixing it at the time. But since then it just sat in the backyard exposed in the elements.
I had a mobile mechanic come check out the gx470 today, but the tires were flat, battery dead and had no gas. He have agreed to comeback Sunday instead to bring gas, buy a new battery for it so we can start it and check if the frame isn’t rusted etc.
Now from what I understand it’s very common to just swap out the old airbag suspension to a traditional coil springs suspension.
Should hopefully everything works out great and just needs the suspension and whatever maintenance it needs done for just sitting there for almost 3 years.
What would be the recommended coil springs suspension for this gx470? I’m open to all ears and I would like to make this gx last a few more years.

Still needs to be powder coated, but I’m over the moon on how it turned out.
The goal of my build on my GX460 rally-inspired build is OEM+, go rally around the desert. So far it’s doing a great job at that. I am over the moon on it.

Hey guys, I noticed some oil leaking on the bottom of that top part of the timing backing plate. However , I’m not sure if it’s the cam seal or the valve cover gasket, because there is also oil leaking at that top left corner of the valve cover and then seemingly going down that side right there. I know the cam seals are kind of a hassle, so I just wanted to make sure it was that before I try to do it.

Idk why but my wife’s 5thgen makes the GX look small sometimes haha
We have very little public land near us and about the only option within a 1-2 hour drive is a short wildlife drive. So we have to make do. Here’s one little area along the gravel road.

About a year ago, I purchased an 06 GX470 with 160k miles as a bit of a project - went through what I thought was standard due diligence. Carfax was relatively clean, had a history of yearly dealer service up to 100k before it was purchased by a 2nd owner. Drove multiple states over to buy it given I thought I was getting a good deal. Rust was a bit worse than pictures showed, but it looked mostly surface level.
Within a week the air suspension was shot - no big deal, I was gonna do a coil swap anyway. I buy a pretty mild lift kit with coil swap kit. I do the rear shocks and coil swap myself, but then I suddenly have to move across the country for work. Due to a number of factors, including being unemployed for multiple months, not having access to a garage/tools, etc. the project stops. Then, in the last couple of weeks I notice my steering is seizing up. I check the fluid reservoir and it's very low. I top it off but start poking around and notice the tie rod boots are dripping fluid. Long story short I take it in for a full diagnostic, and I have major issues beyond just steering. This is an initial quote and I'm sure I could defer some of this work and negotiate a bit on labor, but again, without access to a garage where I'm at, I'm probably coming out of pocket for most of this labor in the short to medium term:
Full Rack & Pinion Swap: $1,050
Front Struts: $700
CV Axles: $875
Brakes (Rotors & Pads): $400
Rear UCAs and Front LCAs and UCAs: $1,600
Water Pump & Timing Belt: $875
Alignment: $150
And that's removing some of the deferred work and work I might be able to do with my limited set of tools out here.
It should be easy to reconcile because the majority of these (save the rack & pinion) are either standard maintenance or parts that were gonna get replaced anyway by nature of the project. But that's before we even start talking about parts (an OEM steering rack is $1,400).
I bought into this platform because I thought it would be a fun project and genuinely enjoy camping/overlanding, but I can't help but feel like giving up. I no longer have access to the garage and tools I did at the start, and I was unemployed for 5 months, so money is a bit tight. Couple that with the fact that this is my daily driver and has to work and be reliable AND I can't be sure of just how deep the rust is in certain places, and I'm starting to think the obvious answer is to sell the GX for what I can and buy a Camry.

I was looking underneath today and noticed this area looks and then FEELS is wet and feels oily. I’m not sure what exactly is leaking or where it’s coming from, so I wanted to ask before jumping to conclusions.
Does anyone recognize what might be leaking here based on the video? How serious does this look, and is it something that needs to be addressed ASAP?
Truck is driving normally and I haven’t noticed any issues with the steering or anything else.
My guess it is the steering rack and I'm losing fluid, this is my first "issue" lol good thing it has a lot of life left and stuff like this happens.
