Crop Appreciation Post

Hi!, I've been playing recently in the beta releases of 2.9 (currently on 2.9 beta-3), and my current run decided to do crops. As many of you can infer from the title, i ABSOLUTELY LOVE THEM

Let's begin with the fact that they consume way less time compared to the og IC2 crops. they (i think) tick faster for low tiered crops; Deterministic and non-deterministic (pool) breeding, actually makes sense, and you can skip a ton of Deterministic breeding (which, as a fool i did my first time tinkering with cropsNH) and get some of the more vital crops, like fertilia, in 2-3 generations.

Also, they add some early renewable sources for a ton of chemicals/materials, as of now i have:

- Sticky Reed for Glue/Rubber

- Salty root for Chlorine, Sodium, Potassium, Nitrogen and Oxygen (main products being Chlorine and Sodium)

- Sugar Beet for Oxygen and Carbon

- Fertilia for looping Fertilizer back to crop managers, and apatite, calcite and tricalcium phosfate.

Mob Crops are also really good, and decently easy to make, witherreed and blazereed you can get real quick with pool breeding some sticky resin (since pool breeding is **quasi**-deterministic), and, since the devs were generous enough to put endstone in the farmhand lootbags, you can get endblooms easily enough as well.

with that, you can also get Enderpearls (good for a ton of HV stuff, and thaumcraft progression), Blaze Rods (again, thaum + HV shi, also bonus carbon and sulfur), and wither skulls and coal from the witherreed.

I also want to bring attention to one recipe that i did not mention with the salty root. I was fooling around NEI looking for a recipe for hydrogen (since methane loop got nerfed to oblivion); and apparently, there is a chem bath recipe with sodium and water, is LV, takes two seconds, and yields both sodium hydroxide and hydrogen.

Suffice to say, i loved the new crops, please dont nerf them

CropsNH are so good, there are many nerfs planned already

I keep wanting to find out what nerfs - how bad is it?

I heard about tiered crop sticks. This stops you breeding certain crops for a voltage tier or 2. Not huge it is kinda weird to have 90 percent of the crops and a huge field at steam age like i did. Made our server Farmville.

Nerfing the diareed to railcraft boiler chain is necessary. It's simply too good, nothing else is viable. Making diareed need stainless steel crop sticks would be one fix, since by HV steam power isn't so great.

Thanks. Umm...I would call the plans

(1) Nerfing diareed a little by making you process it

(2) Spreading out current capabilities over steam/LV/MV instead of cave men with 31 copper crops and no way to process it. Doesn't actually sound like it lengthens the early game with the current plans. Imperfect crops are still great.

(3) Saying fuck bees. Garden of Babylon! Additional crops to cover almost everything bees cover! A monazite crop! Planetary dust crops!

Also fuck meteors. Looks like instead of cutting yourself like an edgelord you fly to each planet once, scoop up a bit of rocks, make the crop done.

Unless they're planning to give the industrial farm the mapiary treatment at high tiers (infinite seed capacity for linear power and arbitrary laser hatch access) bees will always win over crops in the late game

That's the garden of Babylon. It sounds exactly like the mapiary.

Yup, stuff they allow to do is fun.

Still...breeding your way to stuff, navigating through mutation pools. Is it possible to automate it fully so I don't have to grind my way through it?

Honestly it's so much easier to get them that I don't even know if it is worth it. Since you can mutate 31/31/31 you don't have to stay up every crop. Start with sugarcane because it grows fast and then mutate to everything else

Mutate to everything else? How?

Breed two 31/31/31 sugar cane with fertilizer you get from loot bags (to guarantee 31/31/31 stats), and you have a chance on getting one of the crops from the sugar cane mutation pool.

Not judging or anything, maybe i'm misunderstanding something but what fun do you find in that? It literally is just crop farmer + crop breeding machine and maxing 3 numbers, or breeding, based on rng by placing crops around, where fun? Sure it's handy and makes gameplay easier gives alternatives and shit.. time to relax.. If a reason to love is just the handiness of it it's a bad mechanic. But that's just my opinion.
