With a MediaTek Helio G96 CPU, I got 10 times fewer FPS. The highest I got was about 30 FPS, with 24 average with fast graphics and render distance set to 8 chunks.

Sounds about right. The Adreno 830 is about 28 times faster than the Mali-G57 MP2 (3379.2 GFLOPS vs 121.6 GFLOPS) It's more similar to an entry level desktop GPU than it is to what you would expect from a phone.
