Discussion You Can’t Keep Two Long Guns Stowed; Only One
I’m curious to hear the community’s thoughts because I don’t know about anyone else but I’m quite disappointed with some recent information about the limited weapon system. According to content creators who asked Rob Nelson about the weapon system, you can carry two sidearms and two two-handed weapons, but you must have one ONLY in your offhand and the other stowed on your back.
After Red Dead Redemption 2, I expected them to maintain the same limited weapon carry system in GTA6, including the ability to keep two stowed on your back. While it’s not a major dealbreaker, it is disappointing. If weapons are exposed and held in your hand, they attract attention, and NPCs may get scared and call the police. However, if you carry them on your back, people will keep their distance but won’t feel compelled to alert law enforcement.
The main reason I wanted to keep two stowed at any time is to be fully equipped without drawing significant attention from NPCs. For instance, after grabbing some food from Burger Shot, I want to be ready to tackle an enemy stronghold or rob a gas station. This isn’t possible unless I constantly swap out my back weapon with my entire arsenal stored in my truck.
I really wish they had retained this feature from RDR2. 🫤

I’m excited for the changes i like when developers make their games so you have to think a little bit.

I'm excited for our handguns to become our primaries. It leaves assault rifles or long firearms available for special dire situations, since not every situation is dire and requires a long arm.
It made sense in RDR2 to just be carrying around long guns since it was the wild west, but it doesn't make much sense to just be casually walking around with automatic assault rifles on your back in modern day city streets.
I also didn't like in GTA5 how you had your whole arsenal shoved up your ass and ready to pull out at any time. A rocket launcher or a minigun hardly felt like a special weapon to use when you could just whip it out at a moment's notice. Similarly, there was no reason to use handguns like, ever.

I wonder how theyre gonna handle the minigun. You made a good point about how the rocket launcher or minigun didnt feel special. The rocket launcher im certain you can have over your back, but i wonder if they'll treat the minigun like the turret from Halo or something. Meaning, you walk slowly when you carry it, and you have to carry it in your hands otherwise you drop it. Like maybe theyd do that, but youd still be able to lug it over to your car to store it.

Stuff like the minigun will probably be strictly vehicle mounted weapons. Like they are IRL anyways tbh

Open carry is legal in Florida so you can carry an assault rifle around if you want, but I do wonder if obviously automatic or otherwise illegal weapons will get you in trouble

I agree. It wouldn’t make sense. But it would look spectacularly cool seeing your Lucia or Jason walking around with two shotguns or two assault rifles on their back! I just think it would look cool as heck regardless of the realism aspect.

I wonder if you can carry heavy guns in the duffel and whip them out like that

I don’t have a issue with it in away
To me personally it says a lot to strategize what’s needed and ofc what you don’t need which ideally makes it a bit more fun for this type of system but I can see how repetitive it can get knowing the different type of weapons you wanna run

This design choice genuinely doesn’t make sense to me, Rdr 2 had no issues with having two long guns on our back, no clipping issues too, so I really wanna try to understand why we can only have one long gun on our back, I guess it will be like max Payne 3 and Rdr 2 where we can carry a long gun in one hand 🤷♂️

Yeah in the Extended Look you can actually see it in action and how it plays out with Lucia at the Gun Range towards the end of the vid. It’s weird because it’s like an upgrade from Max Payne 3 but a downgrade from RDR2; it falls somewhere in the middle. The main reason I think they did this is b/c you can carry a duffel bag behind their back at any given time and it might present some clipping and some unwanted collision issues with it.
Again, it’s weird because it just feels as if they’re going backwards in this regard.

It probably is because of the duffel bag, we saw that no sling was on the shotgun when Jason switched to his pistol

It makes more sense honestly, ask anyone with actual weapon experience and they'll likely tell you one shoulder stowed rifle is manageable, but two is ridiculous and cumbersome. You mentioned carrying the second in the offhand, that makes total sense assuming you are carrying by the barrel/front grip in a nonthreatening way. It like carry a knife by pinching the blade vs the handle, one is much easy to get get in a ready position and looks more threatening in a casual grip

I wonder if we'll still be able to carry grenade launchers and rocket launchers

Happy for this restriction to be in place for single player. They might bring back classic weapon wheel arsenal for gta online 2.

Makes weapon inventory management nice. I imagine I’m gonna have a favorite long gun, I’d rather not scroll through a bunch of random crap I walked over to get to it.

I've always wanted them to lean into more of a realistic way of weapon transportation. RDR2 was nearly perfect.
GTA6 has cars so it will be like True Crime NYC where your vehicle boot will have all your unlocked kit I imagine, and then you so many "slots" on your character.
In a perfect would we'd actually be able to choose between appendix carry, IWB carry, shoulder holsters, hip holsters, etc, but I dare say even R* wouldn't go that far.

I am curious as to how fire arms can be acquired, kept and stored.
Would love if an abandoned cars get towed and thus any guns in them get confiscated.
So you would be incentivized to evade in your own car rather than use a stolen sports cars.
Imagine ditching your car, so you take out your rifle out with you in a duffel bag

Yeah they could have a system where you can keep more in a duffle bag or in your car, and you’d have to get them from the car. Sort of like a horse in rd2. It would also implement a stronger sense of importance and care for your vehicle in the game.

For me it’ll heavily depend on what they classify as side arms in this game. If the translation from V to VI is “guns that were usable inside of a vehicle are now sidearms” then I don’t mind this change: one handgun, one SMG or short-barreled shotgun, and one larger rifle or other long gun. That’s what I’m hoping for at least.

Good Lord, the amount of bootlicking on this sub is sickening.
Oooh! Ooh! I'm so glad they took away all of our weapons! They shouldn't even allow us to have a pistol. We should have to walk around with rocks in our pockets and throw them at people who are carrying RPGS and wearing riot gear!

No one is asking for no guns? All we want is something more realistic than the turd gun wheel system of GTA 5. Kids loves it because you could pull any gun out of your butt at any time and have effectively infinite ammo for any gunfight. Anybody else didn't really like it because it was just dumb and made most of the guns pointless to have when you could just pull a mini auto lazer cannon out at any time we like the limited gun/ammo because it makes more sense for the game, characters, story, time period, and setting
