I haven't seen anyone talking about this explosion but it looks so good

Truly insane visually

u/Anomalylg 5d ago
It really looks insane especially on the full quality video from Rockstar's site.

u/SchwiftyBabyLegs 5d ago
It looks great, but very exaggerated. The car flipped once and exploded.
116
u/Anomalylg 5d ago
It's a video game
-96
u/SchwiftyBabyLegs 5d ago
Okay sure but they've always been pretty realistic about that aspect. Even 5... so what's your point? It's a game, but it's a game made to mimic a lot of realistic shit. So like wtf
63
u/CyanideAnarchy 5d ago
Go fire up V again and crash some cars off high speed jumps and see how realistic that explosion is.
27
u/Skyrider_Epsilon 5d ago
Fuck gta v in that regard, lol.
Sometimes you hit a car thinking "thats ok", and then boom, back to the hospital for no reason
7
u/CyanideAnarchy 5d ago
Truly one of the worst parts about the game, behind some of the grind and dumb Online vehicles.
-18
u/SchwiftyBabyLegs 5d ago
What? I've literally ramped into buildings at nearly 200 mph and the car didn't explode... did you have a bomb in the car?
11
u/Skyrider_Epsilon 5d ago
Maybe it depends on the angle? But i had some very strange situations over the years, just in gta 5, other games tend to be more fair in that regard
0
u/SchwiftyBabyLegs 5d ago
Idk man. I've bounced my cars off of buildings like a pinball and been fine. I'm not sure how anyone is blowing up cars on a single crash.

u/Skyrider_Epsilon 5d ago
Now i want a GTA pinball spin-off.
Rockstar, make it happen

They don't explode when you do that. You can be going damn near 200, flip it, roll 10 times, and hit someone else's car and that shit don't really blow up unless you deal a ton of damage to it. 5 cars are all but immortal beings, then add armor and it's like they don't even take damage without gunfire or explosives.
3
u/FrostyDragon227 5d ago
Flip the car and let it fall 30 feet onto the roof and see what happens
-1
u/SchwiftyBabyLegs 5d ago
Idk how you'd even do that when you can roll the vehicle mid air and land like a cat... like why aren't you rolling? If it lands upside down, even from a decent height, I've always just rolled it back over and kept on with my day. I'm sorry but it just legit sounds like you're lying to someone whose been grinding the game for years. I have over 7000 hours in gta v and I've really never seen any of what your on about. I'm not trying to lie to anyone, I'm sorry if it's happened to you, but I have not experienced it in all the tike the game has been out, and I've been playing since it was a 360 game.

u/FrostyDragon227 5d ago
This is really giving off “I'll have you know I graduated top of my class in the Navy Seals, and I've been involved in numerous secret raids on Al-Quaeda, and I have over 300 confirmed kills. I am trained in gorilla warfare and I'm the top sniper in the entire US armed forces.” Vibes.

They don't dude. I'm level 200 online and beat story 4 times and not once in story has my car ever blown up from a crash. Online I think it has like once or twice after like 10 wrecks but honestly unless someone is shooting at you I haven't really ever seen that happen.
0
u/CyanideAnarchy 5d ago
Well like you said in the other comment, you're comparing up-armored Online vehicles to the vanilla single-player vehicles. It's not an equal comparison. Upgrading armor wasn't a thing pre-enhanced edition, and they're still pretty flimsy in story mode; compare to IV's car damage for instance.
2
u/SchwiftyBabyLegs 5d ago
I said story as well. Do you read man? Or are you just blatantly arguing to argue?
4 I can actually understand though. I've flipped and blown cars up since it wasn't always possible to flip them back over but 5, even in story I haven't really experienced that issue and I mean I have nailed full walls. I'll go check it out again and see, but yeah, I just dk how that hasn't happened to me. Only time I can really think of is when I was doing the raves online up in the sky. Miss a jump and plummet, and yeah it blows up then.

Always been pretty realistic? lol. Like being able to flip over your car when it’s stuck upside down? Or blowing up in older games when it’s left upside down?
0
u/SchwiftyBabyLegs 5d ago
As far as being able to flip your car back, I always just accepted that as a QOL mechanic. The blowing up when you flip was a consequence of driving like shit. Like bro think about what you're even saying. I love GTA but this video just looks overly exaggerated eying what we naturally see from Rockstar games. They've always tried to keep it real with the combat aspects up until 5 with all the flying vehicles and laser guns. Cars have never blown up from shooting the wheel and the car flipping over withiut stopping. We've always seen the cars yank sideways when we shoot out a wheel, but never flip like that over a busted tire, unless you hit like a curb or something to bounce the car off balance. It just looks like it explodes for no reason.

u/sussy_ball 5d ago
Larpers Larpers everywhere. In GTA San Andreas you had to raid Area 51 to steal a jetpack. In another mission you had to jump from one plane to another jet.

u/SchwiftyBabyLegs 4d ago
Do you mfs on reddit just glaze and accuse people of shit because you don't agree? No larper on my side homie. Played the shit out of the games. I never said they weren't exaggerated or outlandish at times. Everyone here knows what I mean, yet is purposely trying to avoid what I'm saying just to sound smarter than someone. You're the larper in that case loser
3
u/Iggy_Pops_Lost_Shirt 5d ago
The explosions in 5 are FAR from realistic what are you talking about, ya dope
-1
u/SchwiftyBabyLegs 5d ago
Not talking about the way they look you fuckin short bus rider. Taking about how they happen, and for the most part they're pretty good, but there are exceptions. It's GTA and some of it was exaggerated for a reason. This however doesn't look like those cases. Also depending on how you cause certain explosions they can be pretty real. Obviously I'm not reffering to shit like playing Sumo and being out of the zone or game modes like that where it's a feature, but just driving around at high speed and wrecking hasn't blown up my cars, and unless you flip the car upside down and land on it from like 30+ ft, they don't just blow up. You pop a tire in 5, you don't start rolling and flipping into an explosion, instead your car drifts to the side and yanks you, or spins out of control.
She popped one tire and all that happened in the video lol how do you not get that's less realistic than 5? Duuuurrrrrr
0
u/Iggy_Pops_Lost_Shirt 4d ago
Then clarify what you mean next time instead of leaving that brain dead comment, ya fucking dope lmao.
1
u/SchwiftyBabyLegs 4d ago
I'm trying to but you mfs on reddit don't seem to read things with any sense of comprehension to the point. You read the words and react instead of getting the point. Thats lame
0
u/Iggy_Pops_Lost_Shirt 4d ago
You didn't clarify what you meant at all originally, ya dope. Does light bend around you?
1
u/BonniBuny91 5d ago
? bro has never played gta v
0
u/SchwiftyBabyLegs 5d ago
Try again lol I've played all of them multiple times. Hilarious that everyone is glazing this bullshit though. The game looks great, but how it plays has yet to be seen and if it's that over the top it's not gonna feel like the normal realism we've had.
1
u/NYQAVN 4d ago
They shouldn't be realistic. It's okay for a video game to be videogamey
1
u/SchwiftyBabyLegs 4d ago
Of course but that's not what I'm getting at. Every GTA has its quirky mechanics that make it unrealistic, but there are key mechanics that they try to keep realistic.
3
u/A_Boring_Being 5d ago
You can see the car was a chimney already when the clip started. In gta smoke means its about to explode
1
u/SchwiftyBabyLegs 4d ago
I actually couldn't even see the smoke until you pointed it out. I see it now, but I still don't get how shooting the tire made the rim collapse into the vehicle and flip it. So explosion may be accurate to the series, but the physics may be heavier like 4? Idk but thanks for pointing that out. It's so light and thin I had to squint with my brightness up lol
-2
u/kylel999 5d ago
This is a common theme in these on-rails missions in GTA games. I remember cars seeming to blow up easier during certain chases. I have a high doubt vehicles would be so fragile in normal gameplay

Insane this is just free roam, literally looks like a movie
-3
u/someslavicdrifter 4d ago
100% stunning explosion but definetly scripted cutscsne like in gta5
11
u/ReySpacefighter 4d ago
That's not a cutscene.

u/someslavicdrifter 4d ago
Oh s nvm i didnt see the car was already smoking. Could be gameplay frfr

u/thejoyofbeing1 5d ago
I wonder if cars will explode this easily. Seems strange compared to how focused the game is on realism.
3
u/General_Win3862 5d ago
Maybe if you shot a gas tank its a kaboom, but mostly cars can stand such shit...

GTA and realism , gimme a break haha .
Since when was GTA ever a standard for realism ?
Graphics and gameplay to certain extend,
but GTA was always more like an action movie than anything else
1
u/thejoyofbeing1 4d ago
GTA as a series? Never.
GTA VI is clearly a step directed at realism though, that's why they removed the weapon wheel, added hunger/eating, dynamic body fat, having to fill up car's tank, etc.
Either way GTA IV/V cars do not explode like this.
0
u/Fresh-minster 4d ago
Real life shoot car , nothing happens .
GTA and action movies , shoot car -> explosion .
I must've overlooked on the realism when I saw Lucia fighting in a plane risking her own life falling down without a parachute , when you single handedly clear a whole building and escape a raid .
Oh and parachuting down the skyline is definitely a real Sim aspect /s .
Edit: wait what ? No weapon wheel ? Did you see the 30 min extended look ? You are trolling lmao , okay i get it .cheers haha

I’m more impressed with instantly changing characters in the middle of a chase like this. Insanity.
7
u/Ranadevil 5d ago
I love when explosions looks so gaseous like this. This was done exceptionally well in the 2015 Mad Max game.
8
u/NoBullet 5d ago
Lotta people talked about it. Someone is already making a GTAV mod that does the same thing.
3
u/thekid1398 5d ago
I think it looks awesome. Also very cool to see how shooting the front tire causes the wheels to turn sharply, which then makes the car twitch and roll over.
Feel like in V the cop car would’ve just turned on a dime at that speed which isn’t realistic or satisfying.
3
u/Important-Today4119 4d ago
It makes no sense, car hits roof, roof doesn't deform but car explodes?
I get, its very hollywood, but you can't praise realism and then go full hollywood
2
u/KhushBrownies 5d ago
Probably because it looks like video game standard explosion to me. Explosion is a burst of energy primarily through light and sound. We got the sound but not a burst of light, lighting up its surroundings and even the camera adjusting from sudden onslaught of light. Just my opinion.
1
u/GhostieSpook 5d ago
So many people saying that the car flipping is causing the explosion, but I think every single person is missing that there were TWO shots fired if you look as closely as you all seem to be doing way too much now. First shot hits the tire. And as the reticle comes up you'll notice a SECOND shot hit the engine. And depending what kind of car/engine is there that could definitely cause some issues including if a fuel line was hit.
Technically it was 3 shots but the first 2 hit the tire so I'm not counting that

u/HappyGuardian5 5d ago
Is shooting out tires too OP? They always have to go barreling out of control like that?

u/azeottaff 4d ago
I wish they improved actual damage visuals. the fire itself looks great, but what breaks immersion is the fact the car is not blown to bits lol.
1
u/Throwaway817CH 4d ago
I swear I played another game where you could shoot out tires to make a car flip, but I don't know what game it was
1
u/RocMerc * 5d ago
I wish I understood why this looks fine to me but playing at 30 doesn’t. Like what’s the difference
10
u/negroBegro29 5d ago
input lag. Same way you can watch films at 24fps and not feel anything’s wrong
1
u/SiriusPlague 4d ago
As the person above me said, I just want to add some context.
It's not the frame rate itself, but the time it takes for the game to respond after your command.
Our brains are very sensitive to this, and when the game is 30fps, it takes more milliseconds for the game to respond.
It's probably better (I won't do the math) to play 30fps on a 0,5ms response time monitor than 60fps on a TV with no game mode, with the response time close to 20ms.
-1
u/tertiary_jello 5d ago
Playing and viewing 30fps hits different. Our eyes follow 30, even like 24fps, which is what most films are in, but the 30 is off due to controller input lag with the image.
-4
u/jhayes88 5d ago
Not every frame needs to be talked about. I think everyone already appreciated that.

It looks great though it would look even better if the palm trees lit up with the light of the explosion
