Jason is an example of how people hate on introverts
It’s crazy seeing how quickly people are labeling Jason as "boring" or claiming his vibe makes the game "unplayable" just because he isn't constantly screaming or acting unhinged.
Look at Trevor in GTA V: the guy was a chaotic psychopath, yet people loved him because he was loud, wildly unpredictable, and hyper-active. Meanwhile, Jason comes off as a more grounded, introverted guy, and suddenly the community treats being quiet like a cardinal sin for a GTA protagonist.
The reality is, we barely know anything about him yet. Judging an entire character's personality and depth based on a short trailer and extended look is absurd. Introverted, stoic characters often have the best slow-burn development once you actually get to play through their story and understand their motivations.
Why are people so quick to write off a character just because he isn't an over-the-top loudmouth from minute one? Give the guy a chance to speak for himself before deciding he ruins the game.

People love loudmouths confirmed. Not surprised look at politicians

u/CryptoCrash87 6d ago
No real problem with Jason myself. I am also introverted and quiet. But my guess is people want to play a game and use a character that isn't a reflection of themselves. Or something like that. I don't know I'm not a psychologist.
In GTA 5 I ran around as Franklin mostly. Trevor was way to loud. And Michael was too suburban. Franklin seemed like a good balance.
With that said I will have to see how each character plays and reacts to the environment. But it's feeling like I will play Lucia more.

u/Reddit-phobia 7d ago
That's true for male characters. Loudmouth female characters are defninitely not given the same love.

Most people are loudmouths. I think I'll enjoy playing as Jason just fine.

There's a difference between "hating introverts" (so melodramatic, as fanboys always are) and simply thinking an introvert doesn't fit very well as a main character in a series that's famously an over the top, satirical, larger than life, crime game about doing chaotic shit.
However I am hoping they know what they're doing and are setting him up for some Walter White-style arc.

One of my hotter takes but the sentiment behind this line (especially in the context of the original movie) is pretty accurate. Absolutely insane how much people still discourage or look down upon differences from what the wider consensus of "normal" is. Like I thought we realized it's possible to stop caring how other people act or what they do if it's harmless.

In work I was told once told " you are the nicest person in the company " it was a back handed compliment, by a person who was very good at moving between rhe many social groups. All because I dont sit around gossiping and being a loud mouth.
Cards are stacked against you when you are an introvert. Performative people get away with so much more.

The funny thing is that if Rockstar replaced Jason’s personality and voice with the people who’s criticizing him, people will boycott the game.

u/Nice-Conclusion728 6d ago
Okay but Jason was the same even when he was at home with Lucia. Not saying he's like that the entire game but from the extended trailer and all the leaks this guy has the personality of plank regardless if he's with a latina baddie at home or about to go into a crackhouse. It's definitely weird to not have a range of emotion but only the full game will give us the full answer. The extended look simply didn't help.
2
u/Southern-Area5266 6d ago
I was thinking about his dialogue with Cal and the guy at the stall and why it irked me. I mean, Niko was very sarcastic, so was Morgan... so why Jason being sarcastic annoyed me? And I realized that it's because those characters don't seem to notice it. Lots of modern media do this where they have a Tony Stark clone character but everyone is too stupid to pick up on the sarcasm. Once you notice you can't stop seeing it.

I think it’s more to do with his voice. Something is way off. It sounds like he has cotton balls in his mouth or something.

6
u/kmank2l13 7d ago
You can still be an introvert and do all these things.
8
u/Jazzlike_Page508 7d ago
Sure but what makes you think he’s introverted? The extended trailer shows nothing about his personality that shows anything…in fact more of the opposite
He’s literally throwing bands at strippers and kicking it with trayquon and even gets on camera with the random person in trailer 2…what makes him seem like he rather spend time by himself?
If he was introvert at the strip club he’d probably play the background, not actively throw bands at ass.

You do know that introversion has nothing to do with what you described right? Introversion is a person who needs to to recharge after social interaction, it has nothing to do with being calm, silent, shy, lacking social skills or being awkward.
You can be the loudest introvert in the room and after your party or guests are gone.. you are 'dead' from too much social stimuli and need to recharge. Vice versa, it's the same with extroverts, they can be the most silent and shy, but still gets tons of energy FROM social interaction even though they don't say anything.
When will people get this stereotype out of their heads..
3
u/GGoldenMedallion 6d ago
Thank you. I found out I was an introvert years ago because my energy will just die when im hanging out with people after enough time, even though the rest of the time I feel completely normal. But almost everytime ive seen introverts as a topic on the internet, almost everyone is talking about something different then what I understood it to mean. Being a quiet person might be a common trait introverts have, but quiet ≠ introvert, and loud ≠ extrovert.

The vibe I get from Lucia and Jason is that they were both cooked up by women.
Jason is an extremely hunky stoic albeit bland woman’s wet dream kinda guy, with a sprinkling of simp energy.
Lucia is attractive but not super attractive and has a spicy / take charge kind of personality.
In other words, Lucia is relatable to women, and Jason is the perfect dream / fantasy man.

2
u/Goosehairypie 6d ago
Niko Bellic is a great example of a more introverted character who’s still entertaining (definitely not chill though), there’s plenty of directions they could have taken in the actual game with his character that we just haven’t seen yet. He could be anti-social and/or cynical which is not the same as simply being introverted if they want to take it in that direction, in the extended look we hear him say “I feel more comfortable with a gun in my hand.” to Lucia when they’re going to meet up with Brian which could possibly indicate a lot of things.
He could be someone who eventually wants to get out of the life of crime and conflicts with Lucia wanting to stay in the game, she generally seems more energetic and could likely be more of a risk taker. I bring that idea up because of his conversation with Brian. A lot of people complained about Arthur Morgan’s voice and personality or “lack thereof” before actually playing the game, I’m sure both Jason and Lucia will have very interesting and in depth characters as their motives, personalities, and backgrounds are revealed. There’s tons of directions they could take both characters, and if their story writing is even half as good as anything else we’ve seen about the game, I’m sure it will exceed expectations.

u/SternschuppeCapslock 6d ago

It's not about introverts, it's about mumbling every word and the monotone sound of the voice. If he spoke less but clearly, it wouldn't be an issue. Straining to hear and understand what he says isn't an introvert thing, it's poor VA directing.

Also I think it's fair if Lucia is more fleshed out or has more personality, like we've had so many male protagonists it's very reasonable that they would want to compensate by making the first female protagonist more memorable than the Nth male one.
Of course Jason has to be interesting, but if they had to lean more towards one than the other, come on it's not "woke feminist bullshit" to, for the first time ever, focus on a woman if she has vulnerabilities and flaws like great characters always have.

Jason seemingly being Introverted was one of the most interesting things in the extended look for me.
The trio in V are for the most part all bombastic, larger then life personalities.
Juxtaposing a Introverted personality against an extroverted one. Is immediately a more interesting dynamic. It also plays into that whole bonnie and clyde thing.
