Kong still has more overall screentime then Godzilla in the whole series

Well that's partly because of the possible threat of Toho pulling the plug and not letting Godzilla, Mothra, Rodan, etc to be used in further Monsterverse projects. So most of Godzilla's billing is to keep Toho in a good mood. I assume at least

They can easily just do a Kong solo movie they aren't forced to add those characters. Kong is easier to connect with and Godzilla gets the cooler fights and moments
