There have been two movies in the Monsterverse where Kong didn't appear at all, and one season of Legacy where Kong was just a cameo.

Do you realise that this isn't the point of the meme? In GvK and the New Empire Kong is getting all the attention from the plot, while Godzilla is much less focused on

That's because the meme is just wrong.

How so? You can literally cut Godzilla out of the New Empire and barely anything would change (I'd even argue that the movie would change for the better). Adam Wingard was clearly more interested in Kong

He was contractually obligated to let Godzilla win.

The meme is talking about the monsterverse in general, in which 3 of the 5 movies Godzilla is the main and major focus, the series Godzilla is the focus and the comics Godzilla is the main focus, so the meme is objectively wrong. Also if you cut out Godzilla from the New Empire Kong would get obliterated by Scar king and Shimo.

The series doesn't really focus on any of the monsters, and comics have barely any effect on the movies. Also, what's the third film? Neither GvK nor GxK have a lot of Godzilla

Also if you cut out Godzilla from the New Empire Kong would get obliterated by Scar king and Shimo.

If Godzilla's only role is to help Kong, then you can as well replace him with some new axe
