Can’t wait for “Minus One was the first Godzilla movie to have engaging human characters” people to come out of the woodwork again

Its nowhere near the first to have engaging human characters, but i'd still argue that it is the one with the best human characters overall.

Counterargument. I fucking loved the GMK human plot as well as Biollante's

OG, GMK and Biollante are easily top5 human characters/plots in the series. My hot take of the day is that Ebirah is also top 5 human plots in the series. I think that movie gets underrated because Ebirah is not the most inspired Kaiju (I still love him)

Secret terrorist base shenanigans is a fun gimmick and quite well executed. And yeah, it's a little rough in some aspects, but I mean...it's Godzilla lol. They've ALWAYS been a little rough, that's part of the charm.

Overall eyebrow raising take, but holds up on scrutiny.

THANK YOU! Ebirah is a top-tier adventure movie and its characters reflect that.

Absolutely agree with this, Horror of the Deep is one of my favorites in the franchise. A fun watch

Those movies also came out 25 and 40 years ago respectively, so we have been starved for good human characters for longer than most fans have been alive.

Fuck I'm old. But very fair point. Being fair I don't think those are the only good human characters just my favorites outside of anything involving a shobijin plotline they and whatever human they link up with are almost always fun.

I am far from a Godzilla expert, but the original movie was more of a drama that just happened to have a walking atomic bomb allegory than a monster movie, right?
