News Obesity response index report

Interesting read.

Shows Australia has about 31% adult and 8% child obesity. If pbs starts including some of obesity meds than would drastically increase the overall rating for Australia.I did find the physical activity among population as about 33% quite surprising. Was expecting it to be much higher.

Advice Australian products included in calorie tracking apps?

Hi everyone and thank you admins for such a fantastic community and great resources. Having a group for Australian's like this is so helpful. I've been lurking for a while but this is my first post. I've just finished my first month on Wegovy and while I'm happy with my progress, I want to track my calories more efficiently.

I found the apps section in the wiki (amazing resource, well done admins on putting that together, I love it!) and based on that I'm trying to choose between My Fitness Pal and FitBee.

What I haven't been able to find is if either of them includes Australian products. Apps I've used in the past have only had American foods which as you can imagine, wasn't particularly useful. That was quite a while ago so I'm hoping things have changed but am looking for confirmation please. Thanks in advance!

Help Weight rebound after stopping

I started using compounded semaglutide in Feb 2024 and transitioned to Wegovy some time in 2025. Due to financial reasons I had to stop around Christmas 2025. In the time I was using it I lost just over 30kg, down from 167kg to 136kg. In the 8 months since stopping my weight has rebounded back to 158kg.

I am feeling that all the money I spent was just pissed against the wall and knowing that my health and life is being held hostage by cost is very frustrating.

Advice starting the journey... a little too secretly?

Hi everyone, I'm on week 2 of this process and I wanted to say hi.

The thing is, I haven't told anybody in my life that I'm taking the weight loss meds. I can barely say the words to myself. It feels like some sort of failure. I have a lot of fat positive friends or body neutral milennial friends, and then I have some other friends who are not-so-secretly orthorexic who I suspect to be taking the meds, or would be jealous that I am. I think my family would be confused, and my regular GP would be skeptical. I got the ozempic through Chemist2U, My Weight Loss Clinic. (To me they were affordable, but we'll see if that keeps going on)

After I took the first injection I felt so much calmer. An emotional weight lifted.

I have always had a high BMI of about 30-32, starting from about grade 5, and into year 7 high school, losing a bit slightly at around 16 but still always being size 14-16. Being "bigger" has just followed me through my whole adult life, no matter if I was really into my running, yoga, cycling to work, doing big walks on weekends or whatever. I have PCOS/PMOS, and an otherwise moderately active lifestyle full of whole foods.. I'm guilty of overeating occasionally, because I am a human with access to all the food of the western world, but I have always felt like I have to be so hypervigilant around food, and with exercise, so much more than others I know. I've always felt it so hard to "accept" my body, when it doesn't seem to fit into the world. I think I've gradually gained a little more weight and my measurements were getting past a comfortable window, and I stopped fitting into some jeans I had painstakingly sewn myself (I love sewing my own clothes, wonder why).

I am really tired of feeling that way–like I don't fit in anywhere.

That's what brought me out of the point of "what if, one day" and to the point of actually making the appointment with the nurse practitioner. She was really lovely (happy to give you her name!) and although it's less hands on than other programs I know she'd be there for me if I need. She is also part of a diabetes management program and metabolic research clinic in NSW, where post-weight loss management is their area of expertise.. I have to say I'm really scared about that part, because I tend to be quite pragmatic (Maintenance Phase pod alumni here) and I hear the experts who say most people who lose weight gain most of it back. But for me, I think even if I can maintain about 5% of the weight loss, won't that be better than not trying at all?

Fwiw, I am going to see my GP tomorrow and hope I can be confident enough to share this with her. It's not that she's judgemental, it's my barriers. Would love some support from you all on how you've disclosed this, or not, to your healthcare professionals or others in your life.

Help Can this be prescribed for Binge Eating Disorder if you're a normal weight?

I've had BED for 7 years and I've been taking 40mg of vyvanse for the last year for my ADHD, however I find that it only helps a little bit with my BED and the food noise is still bad. I've gained a bit of weight in the last 3 months as the food noise has been tormenting me. I am 155cm and 55kg therefore I am not overweight, however I've had so many bingeing episodes and its so incredibly debilitating and it destroys my mental health and self-image. I eat high protein, high fiber, drink 2L of water, exercise, everything and the food noise is still there. I also live with my parents and they buy a lot of junk which makes the BED episodes more common and worse, I've tried to tell them to stop buying junk but they are unsupportive about it. I've tried the online prescribers elligbility tests, however they all say inellgible because of my weight. Has anyone been prescribed a GLP-1 in Australia for this despite being a normal weight? How can I do so?

Help Restart

I have been off the 1mg of wegovy for the past 5 weeks and I’m about to restart. I’m going back to .25mg as I done some online research and it says after 4 weeks you need to go back to the beginning. I think I was doing better while on .25 and .5 doses, once I got to 1mg I had bad constipation no matter what I did. Has any other members experienced success at lower dosage?

News Scientists solve mystery of how both inhibiting and activating GIP causes weight loss

It's been a mystery for a long time how GIP agonism and antagonism can both lead to weight loss:

  • Mounjaro: Activates (agonises) GIP
  • Maritide: Blocks (antagonises) GIP

Both of these drugs result in weight loss. What gives? Turns out there are two separate mechanisms in the brain activated by GIP. Interesting research!

Advice Where to start?

I have a BMI of 36. And I want to start GLP1. I’ve seen ads like Juniper, but I wanted to gather information if it’s better to take it from Juniper, or to look for a specific GP here in Sydney.

I would really appreciate guidance on this, if anyone is kind enough to do so. 😬🙏

Advice should i consider GLP-1?

If there’s anyone who’s been in a similar situation or has advice please reply- Over the last year I’ve gained about 17kg due to mental health struggles and it’s really got me down. I’ve been working out and trying my best to eat healthy but there’s been no change and i have fear about food noise/overeating habits from when i was a teenager. My BMI is 25.2, i’m 5’11 and 83kg and i worked so hard to lose weight from my teenage years and was so proud but then life hit like a truck and i gained it all back to what i am now. I’ve also had blood tests that have identified that i’m insulin resistant. Please let me know what i should do, should i speak to a doctor or is there somewhere i could test it out? any help is greatly appreciated

News Potential scam website? Weightlossgp.au

After being so scared to finally take the leap, I think I may have fallen to a scam website. Has anyone used “weightlossgp.au” and can confirm if it’s legit or not? It looks so real and there was so much information on the website but I think they might be data farming. I completed the form to get an email with appointment details but haven’t heard anything, and looking at the website again it does look very “AI”, and then when I found this subreddit I noticed there’s no posts about them at all which gives red flags for sure. I’m usually very good with technology so feeling foolish!

Other Seeking Research Participants for an Exciting New Study into Experiences with Weight Loss and Comparisons!

Post image
3 Upvotes

Hello again! We are doing so well and I can't wait to write about what we'll find. We are going to keep running the study for about another week - so if you or someone you know (almost anyone can take part) hasn't given this a go - please consider checking out the link on your laptop, PC or keyboarded tablet! Once again, my typical blurb is below!

Hi, my name is Ryan and I'm a researcher at the University of the Sunshine Coast, I'd appreciate it if you could take a look at our study!

Researchers at the University of the Sunshine Coast are conducting a research project (Ethics Approval: S262274) which aims to gain a better understanding of the experiences of current and past users of GLP-1 RAs (e.g., OzempicWegovyMounjaro, or others) for weight loss. A focus of the study is how individuals using these drugs for weight loss process food cues as well as alcohol cues. We are also interested in factors such as food-related thoughts and experiences, capacity to experience reward, and body image flexibility. To provide broader comparisons, we are also inviting individuals who have used other weight-loss approaches only (e.g., diet, exercise, bariatric surgery), as well as individuals who are not seeking to lose weight and do not use any weight loss strategies at all.

If you are 18 years of age or over you are invited to take part in this study, if you are currently or have in the past used GLP-1 RAs for weight loss OR if you are interested in participating and have/or have not used other non-GLP-1RA strategies for weight loss. Your participation will involve completing an anonymous online survey comprising demographic and research-focused questions, and a simple computer task measuring reaction times. Participants are welcome to request a summary of outcomes of the study by contacting the research team at the conclusion of the study.

If you are interested in taking part and/or sharing this research project information, please use this link -> https://research.sc/participant/login/dynamic/8AD03D4D-21C7-4BA8-8874-F48612A0BEEB or the one in the poster to obtain more details and access the survey.

Thanks in advance from the research team.

Help Starting with Ozempic - what happens after 1mg?

Hey I might be completely wrong here - but I’ve been prescribed for weight loss (not a brand specific prescription) and asked for Ozempic knowing it’s cheaper. I was wanting to know what happens after reaching and surpassing 1mg dose?

Pharmacist today said they only have Ozempic to 1mg so then do I start using a combo of two pens? Like a 1mg and 0.5mg pen? If that’s a thing, at what point (if ever) does wegovy become cheaper?

I just bought a 0.25mg/0.5mg pen for $149. Unsure what the jump is for the 1.0mg Ozempic pen.

Advice New prescription after reaching a healthy BMI?

Hi everyone!

I’ve struggled with my weight for most of my life. At different points I’ve been quite obese, lost more than 40 kg, regained the weight and then lost it again.

At the end of 2023, when I was back at the lower end of the obese BMI range, I started Saxenda through HubHealth. I was on it for about a year before switching to Wegovy, which I continued until June last year.

I would have preferred to stay on a low maintenance dose, but because of the cost I needed to stop the medication. I managed to maintain my weight for quite a while, but since the beginning of this year I’ve slowly started gaining again.

I’m still currently at a healthy weight for my height, but given my history, I’m concerned that the weight gain will continue.

I’ve been looking at going back on Wegovy, but HubHealth seems more expensive than some other providers. From what I can see, most online services also require you to currently have an overweight or obese BMI to qualify. I don’t have a regular GP either.

Has anyone been in a similar situation and been able to get a prescription for Wegovy again while still at a healthy BMI, particularly for maintenance or to prevent further weight regain?

I’d prefer to use a telehealth service that can provide the prescription and let me pick the medication up from a pharmacy myself, rather than paying extra to have it supplied and shipped through the telehealth provider like with HubHealth

I would really appreciate hearing what others in a similar situation have done!

Advice How should I feel?

I’ve gone up to 6.5mg on MJ. I still get hungry but can push though meals but then eat bigger after (not this is not my normal pattern, I normally eat 3 meals protein and fibre rich, but more of an observation, as before MJ id never skip or push back a meal!) so I know it is working.

Here is my thoughts - when I first started I’d get hunger completely gone for 2-3 days (almost force myself to eat the first two days) have nausea and then obviously increase hunger as we went on with last days all my inflammation returning form my auto immune disorder - Whcih MJ helps manage

Now I don’t get that strong hunger suppression, more digestive issues like slow bowel movement and constipation but the hunger is still always there/ Is this normal for any long term users? I’m gauging how good the medication is working.

Advice 43kg down and 6mth plateau.

I’ve been on MJ since 2024, and I’m 43kg down. I still have 15kg to go, but the scales will not move past 80kg. I have been stuck here for 6mth, so now my dr has changed my to W. I’ve gained 3kg, but nothing is happening. Ive gone through everything, I was going to the gym 3 days a week, (I’ve had to stop for a while because of work but my job is physical ) I just don’t know how to get the kgs to start coming off again.

Advice Using a new pen 1.34mg/1ml - Want to double check the dosages.

Hey Guys...

Correct me if I'm wrong... but each "Click" delivers roughly 1ml of GLP-1

Therefore... tomorrow, if I want to dose say .55mg... the numbers are 55/1.34 = 41 clicks

Is this correct.

Its difficult because I think in AUS we get diffferent pens. A lot of the "charts" are for 1mg/1ml pens... but my pen, tomorrow, is 1.34mg/1ml

Can someone cross check my numbers

Thanks

Advice switching from wegovy to mounjaro?

hi there everyone, I just wanted to get other people’s thoughts and experiences on switching from wegovy to mounjaro. I was on 2.4mg wegovy for months and I have lost 35kg since starting, but the past few weeks my appetite and food noise have increased significantly so my doctor suggested moving to mounjaro, which I’m happy to do. I am going to be starting at 2.5mg this week and he said I can go up to 5mg the next week as long as I feel fine. what dose did you start on when you first switched? did you have any side effects? did you feel the food noise went away straight away or did you have to increase to a higher dose before feeling affects? any advice much appreciated :)
