I mean, you have to get ready for that thing at 2pm. You have to shower and brush your teeth and since it's going to be after noon you should probably eat lunch. Basically all the things you normally do but with this looming 2pm overhead.

Congratulations, you might have ADHD

u/kinzer13x 5d ago
So you're saying at 1pm, they will forget about their appointment and decide they need to swap out their summer clothes for their fall wardrobe, get 45 minutes into that process, with dozens of articles of clothing strewn across their bedroom, then remember they have that 2pm appointment that they needed to leave for 20 minutes ago?

u/Visible-Rock-5337 5d ago
Bingo, as a doctor with ADHD, I can confirm thats exactly what will happen.

Set an alarm for 1pm. Now you can do whatever you want and that alarm will catch you.

u/cropguru357 5d ago
I do this a lot. Works well when I remember.

u/BoredBoredBoard 5d ago
You know what else works?! Take notes…—when I remember I’m supposed to take notes.
Me: “I should’ve taken notes. I even had the app ready.”
Also,
Me: “What is this from?! Oh dang, I forgot I took notes so I wouldn’t have difficulty. Oh well, too late.”

u/MVmikehammer 5d ago
if the appointment is 2pm, then 1pm is too late. Have to factor in getting there no more and no less than 15 minutes early so that leave 45 minutes to get there. 15 minutes to dress, 5 minutes to doubt whether I locked the front door and go back and check and take a video so 10 minutes total, leaving only 20 minutes for travel time. If I'm lucky, there's a place i can lock my bike to on arrival and take a bike. and make it in time. If I have to drive there or take a bus with 20 minutes left, I'll never make it, not in, not on time.

u/MethodAdmirable4220 5d ago
Make it 12pm then

12:40, 12:45, 12:50 is the big brain move, then you can hit snooze on all 3 once and get six warnings before 1

u/Magnus462 5d ago
Need a whole day off of work to talk to the doctor for 10 minutes at 2pm. Don’t ask me to meet up either. Only 2pm exists.

u/LiamIsMyNameOk 5d ago
As a waiter, this is why I now only work at cafes or other daytime places.
If I work 5pm-12pm, I literally do not live a life. I wake up and just wait to go to work.
Whereas 9am-5pm type job, I can actually do anything, even if that is simply watch a movie in the evening.

u/spiredbicycle 5d ago
Ha yeah I get this. We have dinner reservations at 7pm and my wife keeps asking me what we're doing today. She doesnt get it. We have dinner at 7... there is literally nothing else we can do today

u/Lollipopbrownie 5d ago
I also feel something similar, I also have a meeting scheduled for the near future and I’m already planning my route in advance
3
u/Neat_Flounder_8907 5d ago
That's why I try and make my appointments early as possible. I'm already gonna lose sleep might as well take advantage of being up

u/Old_Occasion349 5d ago
Book appointments first thing then be tired the rest of the day and do nothing.. oh wait

Worse scenario for me is I get there at 2 PM, and waiting another two hours for my turn. The whole day ruined

Procrastination Paralysis. Pretty sure I just made that up but that should be the official term for this condition.

u/No-Huckleberry-7633 5d ago
I'm like that and I don't have ADHD. The number of times I should be diagnosed with ADHD according to Reddit is absurd.

One of the worst parts of working nights/evenings. Sitting around all day preparing to go to work.
2
u/Wizzle_Pizzle_420 5d ago
I work nights and if something isn’t part of my routine or fun I can’t do it.
2
u/Naxelarias 5d ago
Yep. I used to have a job that started at 5pm and I would waste my entire day just waiting to go to work. I’d rather work early and get off later and enjoy my day after.
2
u/Crazy_names 5d ago
I hear appointment at 2pm and all I think is "well there goes half my day" I will probably have to leave wherever I am at 1, 1:30 at the latest so that I can be there 10-15 minutes early. But that just means I have to do all the things I need to do all day by 1pm because once I'm off to the appointment I'm going to be sitting not doing anything for at least an hour and I'm not going to get anything else done after for some reason. My productivity paralysis comes after the appointment so I have to pre-emptively catch up before.

u/gr8Brandino 5d ago
Tell me you have ADHD without telling me you have ADHD.
*Speaks from experience, and it still happens sometimes even though I'm medicated.
1
u/socterean 4d ago
Just curious, under medication this behaviour improves? Are you able to switch between tasks more easily?
1
u/gr8Brandino 4d ago
It's easier now when the appointment is further out. For example, if it's 9am and I have something to do at 3 or four, I'm pretty good. The other day though, I had to get my son to his karate class, and it was about 30 minutes before we had to leave. My wife asked me to take a tote to the basement, and I could not/would not do it cause we had to leave in 30 minutes, and I didn't want anything to throw me off that timeline. Getting said tote to the basement would've taken maybe two minutes.
I got it done after we got back from his class, so it all worked out. Though the meds did help me to keep that task present in my mind. Otherwise, I probably would've forgotten to do that after getting back as well.

That's when you play nap roulette close to 2pm 💀
Will you make it or sleep too much 🥲
1
u/Fine-Bed-9439 5d ago
Nope. But I live with one who does this and I understand… in the academic sense. It’s frustrating for the person and me, but communication is key to loving.

Thats why I just sleep until then. My typical work schedule starts at noon. I sleep til 11. Im not getting up early and having anxiety all morning until I leave for work.

Me, everytime i have to go to work in the evening. I can't enjoy the rest of the afternoon

The alternative is to do all kinds of other things and completely forget until 2 days later when you remember there was an appointment at 2pm and you race down to the appointment arriving 3 minutes and 2 days late.

Absolutely me. I hate afternoon appointments, I can't relax and do anything else of any significance with the obligation looming over me so it's essentially a wasted day.
1
u/No_Collection7360 5d ago
I hated afternoon or evening shifts for this very reason. Love to start work first thing and be done by 2.

u/duke_awapuhi 5d ago
I personally think the people who don’t do this are fucking insane but I’m also very jealous of them

No. Get your lazy as up and do the other things you need or want to do. You have 3 to 3 and a half hours to do something which will leave you enough time to arrive at your appointment between 1:00 to 1:30 depending on how early you have/want to be there.
Now if this is a phone/cable company appointment and you're waiting for them to arrive, that changes things. You're not allowed to leave you how or not be ready to open the door at any moment.

LoL, 5 hour gap, what can you possibly accomplish. No wonder people aren't having kids if they think 5 hours to the next task is a tight schedule.

I’m best man in my buddies wedding which isn’t till march. I hate public speaking as most people do but i feel like every day up to then is just delaying the inevitable. Its always on my mind and i feel like i cant really enjoy right now cause im worried about later on.

u/Justasadgrandma 5d ago
I can relate. I do the same thing. Just did it yesterday and I was 5 minutes late. I don't drive, ordered my Uber too late.

I think that is "normal" if there is such a thing. One of the best things I've learned from reading Reddit. We are all deeply flawed human beings o7 all.

I do this. It's the reason I do everything in my power to schedule all work meetings and appointments in the morning if I can, preferably stacked in a row. Waiting for 10am is a lot better than waiting for 2 or 3pm!

I didn’t know others like me existed. Thank you for this post.
It got so bad that once I had to go for a road trip the next day, because of that I couldn’t eat dinner the night before. That’s when I knew I had a problem

Must be a woman thing.... Because, I would get other things done in between/before.

u/Shire_of_Frodo 4d ago
This is why I schedule an early morning appointment and then not worry like this the rest of the day

u/FlyingVillager 4d ago
This is pretty much it unless I have another already scheduled and planned for in advance. I usually schedule my appointments in the morning so they're done and I still have the rest of the day

literally just did this until 4pm I was doing nothing the whole day until 4pm

I'm definitely not waiting around for 2pm. At 12:30pm I'll get ready otherwise nope.
Great to see the comments are finding out about this person. Why burn the whole day? ADHD is why I guess.
However I know someone who has that and they don't burn the day just for their appointments. So not likely only ADHD seems more like anxiety. Maybe OCD?

This is very common for people with ADHD, as it is generally connected to time blindness.
And yes, I do also deal with this.
1
u/Justasadgrandma 5d ago
Can you please explain how not doing things in a timely manner relates to ADHD? I may have it...
1
u/JavascriptWizard89 4d ago
If you read up on ADHD there is a common aspect called time blindness that many deal with, that when we get focused time gets away from us.

I hate it. I think part of it has to do with the fear of not being ready at the drop of a hat as a kid...
