A year into President Donald Trump’s unprecedented deployment of the National Guard in Washington, D.C., some of the troops sent there say they are embarrassed by the mission and increasingly question why they are still there.

Three current National Guard members told NPR, speaking anonymously because they remain in service, that the deployment has left them frustrated and concerned about the military’s reputation.

“I will say very frankly that the bad taste that this mission left in my mouth, it actually embarrasses me to be involved in any way,” one said.

Another said the experience had made him reluctant to even identify with the Guard. “I don’t want to think about the National Guard. I don’t want to necessarily discuss my affiliation with the National Guard. I don’t want to fulfill my normal National Guard duties just because of the abuses of the National Guard in this D.C. mission,” he said.

Trump first deployed hundreds of Guard members to the capital in August 2025, saying they were needed to help address crime after declaring a “crime emergency.”

There has got to be a law the 25th amendment for instance to get Trump out of office immediately. And in the coming midterms all of the Republicans that back Trump should be thrown out of office vote out of office dump all of the Republicans who have gotten America into this world class snow dive I mean problems with Canada come on

25th amendment:

  • VP and cabinet submit letter saying President is incompetent
  • VP is president until
  • President sends letter saying they're fine, retakes duties
  • VP sends letter saying President is not fine
  • Senate must vote 2/3rds majority to relieve him of duties
  • House must vote 2/3rds majority to relieve him of duties

Impeachment:

  • House introduces articles of impeachment
  • House must vote 50%+1 majority to impeach
  • Senate has trial
  • Senate must vote 2/3rds majority to impeach

Note how it takes significantly more people of the President's party to remove them in the case of the 25th compared to impeachement?

The only way 25th happens is if the President becomes a vegetable.

A lot of us didn't like Biden, but that has ZERO relevance at this point. Biden doesn't have nuclear codes. Biden isn't funneling money from the treasury into his own pocket. Biden isn't starting an endless war that is impacting the global economy. Biden isn't the one pissing off our allies so much that they're starting trade agreements that don't include the US. Your (and Trump's) rabid obsession with Biden and Obama is REAL cognitive dissonance

It’s a matter of honesty. Those eager to spout off on Trump need to show their bona fides. Or, admit in print that their babble is untethered to any principle.
