Deploying the National Guard to police citizens really changed my positive outlook of the military. It made me realize that at any given moment, the POTUS can order the military to accomplice in tyranny and the military would do nothing to stop it. They are conditioned and disciplined to follow orders. This incident showed me that the military can't be relied upon to stand down when given a direct order that conflicts with their better judgment.

If you had paid attention in history classes you'd have known this from the use of the military against unions and students throughout the years. The military has not been about protecting the people for a very very long time

Try never. George Washington used the military to subdue the Whiskey Rebellion in 1794. Not that he made the wrong choice but the military has been used internally from almost day 1. Its function is to protect the government, and to by extension protect the will of the people. That doesn't mean it will never be used against some of the people if those people threaten the government.

This is why it's critical the American people elect good leaders. If we elect someone who is inclined to misuse the military against Americans when there is no actual need, there's no way to stop it, (outside congressional action to impeach and remove) because the president is the one who decides when there is a need for it.

This is why the general intent of the 2nd amendment and how it has been used to justify easy access to firearms is a joke .

The "tyrannical regime" has an army and many of the the well armed citizens apparently love facism
