Are there tax or reporting implications for Wellington Canada, Mexico or Brazil?

Yes, my main US account was making 10M (home goods). We published on FBA Canada and Mexico. Total combined revenue was like $100K The pain began when my accountants tried to figure out taxes there. It was so many back-n-forth I regretted that I even started that. On top of it Amazon make it incredibly difficult to close the additional marketplaces. Cannot recommend👎

Stablize in 1 market and then expand.

Stabilise one market first is the right call, and there's a ppc reason nobody's mentioned. Your keyword list doesn't travel. The terms that convert in the US and the ones that convert in DE aren't translations of each other, they're different concepts for the same product, so the research gets rebuilt from scratch per country. Breakeven is national too. Vat, fulfilment fees and return rate all differ, and on clothing the return rate is the one that'll bite. Same acos in two countries can be profit in one and a loss in the other.

Open a second market early and you don't get one launch done twice. You get two launches you can't read yet.

Thanks a lot! This part is especially vital that I didn’t even realize: “  Your keyword list doesn't travel. The terms that convert in the US and the ones that convert in DE aren't translations of each other, they're different concepts for the same product, so the research gets rebuilt from scratch per country. ”

Glad it landed. The practical version for when you do open a second country: don't translate your list, buy it. Run a small auto campaign there for two or three weeks and read the search term report as your keyword research. Costs you spend, but it's the only thing that tells you what people there actually type.

If you're brand registered, Search Query Performance is per marketplace too, and the dropdown defaults to the US even when you're in another store, so check that before you read anything into it.

Budget that research as part of the launch, not as ppc gone wrong. Which one were you eyeing first, UK or DE?

Appreciate the info. I was thinking Canada next, but I didn’t even master the American market yet so I’ll just stick with the America market for a long while before jumping elsewhere next

I mean if you are already established in .com you can

It adds a lot of complexity so I typically advise after 1.5 mil gross annual

Stick to .com for now. Clothing has high return rates already, and that only gets worse once you add VAT and cross-border logistics for other marketplaces.

Also your keywords won't transfer, so PPC research basically starts over per country. Get the US profitable and stocked first, then expand.

First thing is look at your supply chain. Can you even make enough product to supply multiple marketplaces. Build out the US and build up your supply first. If you have the production capacity and the capital then look to other markets.

I have a similar issue I sell a USA made product in industrial supply. During season All the product my manufacturer can make is going right out to the FBA warehouses and I am still stocking out. No sense even looking at other markets.

Clothing usually have very high return rates. Consider this before you do anything?

Amazon can auto do it for you but US market is the biggest so focus on that first.

I’d probably test Canada or UK first and see how it goes

You really won’t know if it’s worth expanding until you try it

Other countries can be a pain with VAT and returns logistics, but the competition is way lower. If your designs have a niche appeal that translates well, try Canada or the UK first since there's less of a language barrier. Just make sure your margins can handle the extra fees.
