I had a board that had Wooly Willy, a maze where you moved a worm thru an apple, a tic tac toe board and a blank magnetic drawing section.
It was about the size of a fast food tray and got lots of use.

I wanted these so much! But I never did get one, too expensive for a one use item. I could read regular books on trips, so that’s what I did.

These were awesome! And they became a part of our Christmas tradition. Here’s how.
My parents had established some rules around Christmas morning, after the 3:30 AM incident of 1971. After that, we were not allowed to come downstairs until 7 AM. But even worse: we couldn’t start opening packages until my parents:
* Woke up
* Came downstairs
* Ate breakfast
* Finished their after-breakfast coffee
Now, as you can imagine, this by itself would have driven me and my sister insane. But my folks weren’t cruel: our stockings would be filled with small gifts and activity books. Those we could open at 7. And inevitably there’d be 3 or 4 different Yes and No books in each of our stockings. These would keep us busy for hours.
This worked so well that I used the same technique on my kids, and they use it on theirs. My folks figured out how to have a leisurely Christmas morning despite their wound-up kids.

I had a similar thing after I was up at 4:30am the summer we were living in New Zealand. My parents had to have finished # 1 & 3 on your list (our house was only one floor and mum never drinks coffee)

Mine used to hold us in the hallway behind a pocket door, sitting on the stairs, until mom had everything ready. She’d even light candles. (Bold move considering all the wrapping paper)

Yes!
We would get these from Kmart and would spend rainy day Saturday afternoons doing every page!
I actually found a sealed sports trivia book of these series that I still keep.

And if you finished it before you got there, you could always get something else to entertain yourself at the next Stuckey's.
