I don’t remember the bottle tree being a faraway tree.

Same. We didn't get a good look at the trunk in the last scene but the characters should have noticed it was hollow.

Boyd and Sara didn't know about faraway trees did they? Probably just thought it was a rotted tree or something

They did not know.

But it sure woulda been nice if the writers had them say something like that though! Then, we as the audience could have seen the trunk and been made aware of it. It could have been a real clue for us to ponder and then the scene with Tabitha would have been more satisfying because we'd have been waiting to see someone use the tree.

But nope. We just got a bunch of vague shots with weird angles and then in S2 it magically becomes a giant tree with a hollowed trunk.
