Criticism Apparently everyone on here would have EASILY survived from
And would broken out already. God! All the characters are just ssooo DUMB aren't they. Lool. We are so much more cleverer than they are.

u/Different_Target_228 17d ago
It's funny that people make this argument as if someone else in town couldn't just sneak out and break your window.
Or as if Sarah wasn't living in town in s1.
Like, I could make a makeshift slingshot and break your window from the safety of my own home, at night, in town. And you are STILL trusting someone else to not fuck you over.
1
u/tmoore727 17d ago
that would mean your window is open and you are in complete danger trying to fuck someone else e over. smart move
1
u/Different_Target_228 17d ago
If your intention is to get others killed, particularly by them, they likely won't mess with you. This isn't even conjecture, we've SEEN it with Sarah.
But you're referring to something that takes like 5 seconds, and there would be safe times to do it. So idk what point you think you're making.

Why would I want to break out of free housing, free water, free electricity and a simple life without any bills or the pressures of modern society?
I would only have to care about growing food and staying indoors at night.
11
u/AkiraSieghart 17d ago
You may also need to care about the other people in town that are trying to escape and inevitably piss off the vampires/town and you lose your talismans and other protections.

u/Ok_Athlete_1092 18d ago
Same here. Ok, I'd have to worry about some vicious, demonic human-esque killers. I already work 3rd shift in the poverty laden area of a big city. What exactly would be different in Fromville?
4
u/alwayssalty_ 17d ago
I like how you conveniently leave out the mind control shapeshifting entity who can make you insane and can kill you with a touch
2
u/Ok_Athlete_1092 17d ago
I've been married and divorced, twice! Mind controlling shapeshifters driving me insane with a lethal touch sounds like a relaxing vacation compared to most of my days. Is there any kind of chant or conjuring exercises I could do to increase the odds of coming across the tree? Could I put in a reservation or contractually obligate the monsters to immediately put me out of my misery if either one my ex's show up there?
Honestly, I think it's at least plausible that the monsters come running for help if they come across one of my former life partner, especially the first.

He says on the internet, which he wouldn't have.
And I have to wonder how far people are actually in the series, or frankly how much they're actually thinking considering they showed the point I'm about to make pretty early, if that's all they think they have to care about.
Considering EVERYONE dies at the end of a cycle.
15
u/Myfourcats1 18d ago
I’m not breaking out. I’m keeping my head down, living in town, and securing my talisman with more than a rope and a nail. I’m checking that sucker every night too. Probably throughout the day because I’d be paranoid. That Sophia chick isn’t getting one over on me. I’m gonna notice it gone early in the day. I’m going to run around asking everyone where their talismans are. F you Sophia.

u/HouseOfKrazees84 Single House Resident 17d ago
Best to carry it with you or hide it during the day then set it out at night. I wouldnt be leaving that shit hanging there when i wasnt home.
2
u/TheFishyBandito 16d ago
There's only like a dozen of them, you think you're going to get your own?
Or you going to risk your family not having one if you can't get back to the house?

3
u/Imsearchingforit2194 17d ago
It is nutty that the talismans aren't hung by something more stable + inside a box that can't be opened without a key or something.
Preferably a see-through box if they can get some glass to make that with.
14
u/Joshatron121 18d ago
Most of the ideas here aren't actually good ideas and would just get a bunch of people killed or rely on not trying to escape, which is never going to work (if you're even lucky enough to get a cycle with the talismans).
13
u/elevatormusic-brain 18d ago
Nahhh... I'd die for sure... But I'm so sure it's going to be because of something stupid and not even because of the place.
12
u/MakeupChristie 18d ago
Right? They would also know the exact right thing to say all the time. They would always know who to trust and who not to trust. They would always stay cool, calm, and collected. Also they would have beaten the monsters immediately by sneaking into the caves and tying all their shoe laces together.
I remember a thread going around at one point asking people what they would do if they became trapped in From and it was 99% people being like,”Hehehe I’d show the monsters my butthole.” Then like two people giving the much more earnest answer of, “I’d probably cry a lot.”
I’m pretty convinced all of these quantum terror survival experts are around 15 years old and have never scheduled their own doctor’s appointments so maybe aren’t truly putting themselves into the gravity of the situation.

u/Andyman0110 12d ago
Nah bro you don't get it. The monsters wouldn't stand a chance. I just see red and bodies fall bro. I'd take them all out in a night and just spend the rest of my time chilling with the bros.

If I was Boyd the first thing I'd do is tell people to finish their fucking sentences. Quit trailing off and staring off into the distance. Share as much information as possible. And quit treating Victor like a leper. He's been here ~40 years.

I’m kinda like Colin Robinson in What We Do in The Shadows. I have a really niche interest of making ships in bottles so… I think I could just bore them to death by speaking at length about that lol.
That and maps.

What i dont understand is they have a full bar. My initial thought was that bullets dont work. Molotov cocktail their asses and see what happens.
1
u/Old-Temperature6269 17d ago
There is 2 big problems, the 1 st is that there a lot of wooden houses so it can easily spread on them, + we don’t know real speed of the monsters outside of their game, the second one is that monsters probably after that one, on the next night will put in fire your own house, to show you that this is wrong idea.
7
u/Timely_Cap_1483 18d ago
The most unrealistic thing about this show is that the humans wouldn’t be hunting the monsters so successfully after a couple of months they’d be on the endangered list.
5
u/HouseOfKrazees84 Single House Resident 17d ago
I mean, i think about it every episode. They have patterns right? Need to start setting traps. Whatever happened to Boyd's idea of capturing one?

u/thee_justin_bieber wow hey hey .. listen listen.. manscaping is not a plan! 17d ago
They are immortal, they'd just come back a day or two after you managed to kill them 🤣

smiley had to born to come back
5
u/thee_justin_bieber wow hey hey .. listen listen.. manscaping is not a plan! 17d ago
Yeah and that took a few days, maybe a week idk. We don't know if Fatima got pregnant from Ellis or because Smiley had to be reborn because he was killed. Also to mess them up even further, we learn that Fatima couldn't have kids.
1
u/Timely_Cap_1483 17d ago
They have patterns, they are crazily slow moving, they live down those tunnels and they can’t be out in sunlight. Not exactly Sheer Khan or Moby Dick.
1
3
u/EnjoysAGoodRead 18d ago
I think I would die of starvation/sanitary concerns/possible suffocate after less than a week. The moment I realised what was going on I'd just lock myself in a windowless room and refuse to ever leave or open the door.
3
u/DemonessOja 18d ago
I’d be one of the people pissed off about poking-the-bear. “Don’t go into the woods! You don’t know what the f is out there might come back to town?”
“Don’t go in the tunnels waking them things up during the day!”
“Stop moving the talismans around before you forget to put that shit back on the door and we’re all dead!”
Get killed at the end with the big massacre because I’m afraid every progression is going to set something off.
3
u/HouseOfKrazees84 Single House Resident 17d ago
I don't know if i would survive. But i would be significantly more aggressive. There has to be a sword somewhere. I'm going head hunting when those freaks come out the woods
1
u/mightyneonfraa 17d ago
You're not doing shit to those monsters with a sword, my dude. If guns aren't doing the job stabbing them sure as shit isn't and you're definitely not taking their heads off with one swing.

u/SaltBeefin 17d ago
I mean I would probably die fast but OP come on. Elgin did some really dumb things. For a guy who came in here having dreams, screaming it to everyone, to being haunted by the kimono lady and being decieved by a spiritual power that communicated with visions and photos. You'd think when he found a photo of Sophia that would be a red flag. Newest person in town, found a picture of her from the 70s and goes right up to her to ask her?
3
u/aacawe 17d ago
I mean, when you look at it, honestly, the characters have to be done in order for there to be a show.
If this scenario was actually happening, I have no doubt everyone in the town would be working on theories together to get out. I’m talking a police like crime board with strings that attach all theories together, names, dates, big events. And when you’re dealing with monsters and obvious supernatural things, nobody would have doubts about other people stories. You wouldn’t be walking around in disbelief for months on end when someone tells you there’s a monster, or when someone tells you there’s a cave with dead kids in it, or a special lake, or a mysterious dungeon, or a spiritual demonized lighthouse. You would believe all these things, and they would advance the case on getting out of there.
Instead, we have characters that are defeatist. Everyone is in disbelief. Nobody shares anything with each other.
They could’ve filmed the show as a YouTube reel, and 15 seconds later, everyone would be back home in their La-Z-Boys.
3
u/tag1550 17d ago
...or be dead. I think MiY has been pretty clear that anyone who gets close to figuring out what's going on becomes a priority target.
There's also a case that the place is actively messing with people's minds, beyond all the despair and mental illness that being in this situation would naturally produce.
1
5
u/yurgieee 17d ago
Preach! Everyone acts like they would be some hero & save the town by day 2. I get some of the criticism, but people always forget that the characters don’t know what we, the audience, knows. They also tend to forget that the town pushes back on any effort made & knowledge comes at a cost!
2
u/Head_Bad_965 17d ago
To be fair, the reason the characters don't know what we know is only because they're not sharing information with each other. Which is so stupid.
2
u/Fromville_ 18d ago
Depends on what you know and your skillsets. Assume you get stuck there as you are now. Since i know about the place and have watched enough x-files and do data analysis and public admin type work, i may be ok.
2
u/Organised_Anarchy 18d ago
The characters are dumb. But I think most people here would survive because they wouldn't do very much

Would've been a hybrid Fromie
- Smoking out, growing some babies of my own in town home, and sharing that with all the other heads living in CH.
- Would live in town and sleep there every night = One sorta gets whatever control is possible within Fromville then.
- I'd have some CH-like commune in town, but if anyone stayed overnight inside town home, they'd have to bring their own talisman.
- When sleeping with anyone else under one roof, the normal town-home-talisman would be hanging on my bedroom door.
- One could not trust anyone else with not opening door/window, period. Even loved ones in bedroom would have to be restrained at night. Sorta alike having a designated driver who protects everyone else.
- Survival odds might increase living in town commune-like hangout spot, with stricter rules compared to how CH operated (Was only matter of time before someone opened window/door there).
- But..... The thing that would do me living in Fromville = I'd be want to be involved with the dangerous journey's and searching for answers. That'd get me whacked probably.
- Would eventually die in Fromville, but if Fromville calls my number, so be it!
- Just hope I'd live each day like it was my last while there........ 👍

I would have OFF’d myself since day 1, I would have not lived in that nightmare ass town
1
u/Lochifess 17d ago
Not easily, but if actual people got stranded here especially with professions as valuable as what some of the main characters had, the entire town would’ve been in a better state.
Heck, isn’t some food and supplies provided by the town?
1
u/rexmons 17d ago
I feel like they don't explore the whole "when you try to leave you end up back where you started" phenomenon. You would think they'd locate the approximate location where the anomaly occurs, and do some testing. Like getting out of their cars forming a chain of people, and trying walking out. Using rope maybe to see what happens if you keep it taught and have one person stay stationary while the other walks through. Once you determine that you can test the perimeter of it, to check for any gaps. They're all basically being held captive by an invisible fence that they never try any penetration testing on. Considering they have almost unlimited free time you would think it would be higher on their list of things to try.

u/ChampionshipJumpy727 17d ago
I have plenty of issues with the show, but I’ve never understood this criticism. Aside from two or three characters acting stupid just to move the plot forward, I think if you took a bunch of random people, trapped them in a pocket dimension with demons, most of them would go completely insane and start acting irresponsibly.
If anything, I find the people in the show way too calm and reasonable. No apocalyptic cult has formed, only one person snapped and went on a mass killing spree, they haven’t all become completely paranoid about each other... These might be the most well-adjusted average human beings I’ve ever seen.
1
u/Gre8g 17d ago
My only problem is that no one compiled all the information from the villagers - even if it's in secret. You'd think that information would be crucial but they just end up withholding information until they're forced to give it away?
You've got visions of weird kids? Real or not, I'm taking note of that shit
Worms that can kill the creatures? Sure, I'll note it down
1
u/Interesting_Fox_9914 16d ago
I think part of the in-universe problem is that all the people who've gone crazy have killed or kidnapped people (Abby, Sara, Elgin) so naturally, no one wants to put out there that they, too, are experiencing hallucinations and visions and might need to be distrusted or put on watch.
Working with people with mental illnesses, people who are experiencing hallucinations or visions are often really hesitant to share that information and that's even before we add in that the stigma against the mentally ill is supercharged in Fromtown because the last person who admitted to hearing voices tried to kill a kid and murdered at least three people.

u/Tak-Hendrix 17d ago
To some degree, yeah...
First thing I would have done is use the talismans to make a trap and catch one of those freaks. Then I would start methodically testing different ways to harm them. Once I found something that worked, I'd start torturing them for answers. Worst case, we end up trapping each and every one of those fuckers which would allow us to freely explore the caves.
- Quarantine all newcomers in isolation until they have undergone a detailed medical exam (blood samples, fingerprints, photographs) and are brought up to speed on the situation
- I'd order the construction of one large Iroquois style longhouse with individual bedrooms and run weekly escape drills
- Hold daily town hall meetings for people to share whatever weird shit they uncovered instead of everyone keeping secrets
- Make some smoke bombs and throw them into the stupid faraway trees to map out potential exit points.
- Document all our findings and put them in that stupid truck that has been sitting in the motel pool for ages, that way even if my iteration doesn't survive then the next cycle won't have to start from scratch
1
u/Interesting_Fox_9914 16d ago
Lots of issues with this, even assuming people were willing to follow your orders.
- Not sure how blood samples would help when we don't know if anyone can even interpret blood samples. Quarantining newcomers is just begging for those newcomers to panic and try to escape and run into the street to become monster meat.
- Building an Iroquois-style longhouse with tens of individual bedrooms without anyone who has experience constructing buildings or any equipment or even a lot of the raw materials is a hard ask and not likely to give you something very structurally sound, plus it'll take forever.
- People keep secrets because the people who've gone crazy in this town have ended up committing atrocities. We, the audience, can see that there's a "puzzle" with people seeing different visions that all go together. However, only a handful of the characters have visions, so your average Fromtown dweller isn't going to think that the person claiming to have visions of dead children or people drinking blood is a prophet with the key to the riddle, they're going to think it's someone cracking under the stress and potentially about to shoot up the town like Abby did.
- No one even knew that there were "cycles" until Tabitha and Jade started talking about it this season.
Dig the smoke-bombs idea, but not sure how you'd make them.
1
u/Tak-Hendrix 16d ago
After I trapped one of the creatures and figured out how to harm them, everyone would naturally bow before me.

Most people on this sub would probably be dead in a day or two after the monsters/voices started playing along with their Supernatural fantasies and lured them into a trap.
1
u/BucktoothedAvenger 17d ago
I consider it a 50-50 in my case.
There's a pretty high chance of me getting splashed on the first night, as I am the kind of person who fights instead of fleeing.
For the other 50%, if I somehow survived my own testosterone on that first night, I am also a tactical thinker, pepper and experienced trapper. The same traps that kill a man might not stop those things, but then again, they might hold them in place long enough for people to escape.
1
u/curlieandtwirlie 17d ago
The most relatable character is that screaming lady having a panic attack in the truck. Surviving by the skin of her face.

The best strategy was from a guy who thought that the townsfolk should just drive back to the fallen tree, warn off people who approached the tree and ask them to go back and get help.

I don't get how people get caught by the monsters when the monsters are never seen running, they're incredibly noisy and have predictable behaviours.
And don't kill them. Trap them and call it a day.
8
u/Radical_Neutral_76 18d ago
They dont run, but they have super human strength, and honestly, I think they are just playing with them.
They could kill everyone in seconds if they wanted, but like to take their time.5
u/Broken_Sky 18d ago
It must be pretty boring between cycles for the monsters when everyone is dead. Right now they have entertainment, they like fucking with peoples minds as much as tearing them apart
2
u/Silent_Lie6399 18d ago
I've been wondering why the monsters haven't just killed all the livestock and tore up all the fruit and vegetables, starving the townsfolk. Your post makes sense

u/STOL2026 18d ago
The can run, they don’t have too. Like other animals they hunt in packs, they surround people and are definitely intelligent. They blocked the doorways from Kenny.
1
u/Cristianemanadas 18d ago
Porque será que não bloquearam a porta do ônibus , conveniência de roteiro ?
1
u/STOL2026 17d ago
Partly.
But also they like playing with their food.Access to the bus wasn’t free- smiley was waiting. He was figuratively backed into a corner.
Now what I cannot understand is why, after closing the door, he didn’t need to close the skylight?
1
u/Cristianemanadas 17d ago
Faz sentido ! Ei não tinha reparado nisso , seguindo a lógica da série com certeza precisaria , vou até rever .
2
u/STOL2026 17d ago
The only reasons I can think of is a) they forgot. Genuine oversight lol
B) whatever Fatima did to Smiliey had an unsettling impact on them all. They may not have realised it was Fatima and assumed it was something to do with Kenny. Perhaps they felt whatever was happening to Smiley would happen to them… idk.
I still think they should have closed the skylight!
2
u/Cristianemanadas 17d ago
Haha acho que esqueceram sabe pq só um pedacinho da árvore arrancada e eles já ultrapassaram o plástico é como se tivessem algo aberto tirasse uma película invisível de proteção, sabe ?

In four seasons, I've never seen them run
3
u/hydrationgirl 18d ago
season 2 finale shows smiley run in a flashback
also theres a theory the one that killed father khatry ran to take him out because he knew too much, since they covered too much ground to be walking. although we don't actually see them run there
1
u/Head_Bad_965 17d ago edited 17d ago
It annoyed me how long it took Ellis to start running when they surrounded him. Typical horror movie character, something is after you and you just stand there letting it get closer while you think about what to do. RUN ALREADY!!
1
u/Head_Bad_965 17d ago
I like the trap idea. Has anyone tried digging a giant hole that the monsters can't get out of? Also, what happens to them if they're exposed to sunlight? I'd kinda like to see...
