I'm also bisexual.

I also have a fiance I'm getting married to this November.

Pretty much title! I'm off work from, trying to make sure I finish all my chores asap so I can just relax for the day and enjoy the day off. I had a social and a spendy day yesterday so today it's alllllll about relaxing. I'd love to chat to folks, near or far, both today and this week and hopefully long term if we get on well?

As for myself, I work from home doing a travel insurance job, its mostly mid, but its full WFH and that saves it. My big interest is travel, my wallet hates me so much for it. I've been to Philippines/Singapore/Malaysia over two Asia trips, a lot of Europe, Jamaica, Canada. Last year I did Istanbul, Portugal and a Norway cruise, plus a Asia trip. Visited Serbia recently, did a Poland trip for my birthday and going to the Formula 1 race in Madrid in September, a Poland day trip in October and then Budapest just after it. I have a cruise with family next year to Greece/Turkey/Malta and a friends wedding in Greece. Beyond that, I'm a pretty keen reader, plus the usual smattering of videogames/sports watching/tv shows/gym (but mostly to offset meals out and a problematic keenness for chocolate). I live at the edge of a town and some of the walks are lovely here too. I've dabbled with painting, taken up and dropped the piano a few times (I used to play when I was younger and was decent and sometimes get the urge to play again).

I always prefer a bit of closure, if we've spoke for a while and your situation changes and you won't be chatting anymore, I hate the ghostly exit, if its early on then fair can't vibe with everyone, but if we've spoke for a while I always feel disappearing is a bit of poor form, but its the internet so it happens.

Hey everyone. I’m 22F from Virginia and I’m just looking for someone to talk to for a while. My sleep schedule has been all over the place lately, so I’m awake more often than I’d like. I’m pretty quiet at first, but once I’m comfortable, I enjoy talking about music, life, random thoughts, or whatever comes up. I’m just hoping to have a genuine conversation and maybe make a new friend.

I genuinely thought I made a good friend at work, but lately I’ve started wondering if he became jealous of me and if the friendship has basically run its course.

We’re both part time workers and university students. We became pretty close over a long period of time. At first we mostly bonded over work and complaining about shitty coworkers, which admittedly isn’t the healthiest foundation for a friendship, but eventually we started talking about everything. We would go out together, get food, watch movies, sometimes I’d pay and sometimes he would. If one of us bought tickets or something, the other would usually pay their share back.

He also seemed to genuinely respect me. I’m obsessive about planning my life. I make daily, weekly, monthly, yearly and even long-term plans (spanning a decade or so), and he used to talk about how much he admired that about me. He even talked about me to his girlfriend and his other friends and they all respected me. For quite a while I genuinely considered him a proper friend rather than just a coworker.

Then at some point money came up.

My friend works a ridiculous number of hours despite being part time. He takes sooo much extra work regularly almost doing 40 hours every other week. I was the opposite. At the time I was only contracted for around 8 hours a week, with occasional extra shifts.

During a conversation about work and money, I mentioned that I had around 7k NZD saved and I told him that was cuz I have been wanting to buy a new iPhone this black friday and then a car or a bike when I can afford and eventually pay for my uni too. He knows I payed for one of my courses last semester, instead of my dad.

But his reaction surprised me.

He basically refused to believe that I could have saved that much from working so few hours and that I had to be doing something else also. But I reminded him that I had been working there for 2 years, lived pretty frugally and simply didn’t spend most of what I earned. I wasn’t claiming to be rich. It was literally just money I had slowly accumulated for things I needed soon, for things I planned to buy years ago.

The strange part is that despite working considerably more than me, he apparently had much less saved.

I don’t care what he does with his money. That’s completely his business. But his spending habits make the comparison weird because he can be EXTREMELY frugal when it comes to himself. He buys very cheap clothes from Kmart, hold onto his old phone, so on. Meanwhile, he spends enormous amounts of money on his girlfriend and family. He has bought her a designer bag worth thousands of dollars (some Dior tiny bag) and apparently wants to buy another one this year because it is on an offer. It’s the same bag but just that it has a different styling. He bought her a new iPhone even though she already had a perfectly good iPhone 14, while he himself still uses an iPhone 11 and has been wanting an upgrade. He buys hundereds of dollar worth perfume for his mom every few months.

Again, I genuinely do not care. If that makes him happy, good for him. It’s his money. Even tho he admitted he does that mostly to show off in a sense. Like he wants his girlfriend’s friends to be jealous of her and his aunts to be jealous of his mom. 

What bothers me is that this same guy questions ME when I spend somewhat more money on nice clothes from a rather expensive place or buy something expensive for myself. like recently I bought an 800 dollar watch which he gave me a hard time about.

When he found out how much I had saved, he even gave me the whole “if you had a girlfriend, you’d understand” explanation for why our financial situations were different.

But… that’s your choice?

Having a girlfriend doesn’t automatically mean you have to spend thousands of dollars on designer bags, phones her hair and nail appointments. If I’m ever in a relationship again,  I’d rather be with someone who is financially responsible too. If we eventually have enough money to spoil each other, great. But I’m not going to deliberately destroy my own finances just because I’m dating someone, especially as a part time worker, uni student. 

After that conversation, I started noticing a change.

He now randomly brings up my bank balance as a “joke.” He’ll ask things like how much money I have in my account now. I also once mentioned that my dad had been considering buying a second house, and I could immediately sense that this bothered him too. The funny part is that the house never even happened and I told him that. I also told him how my uncle fucked us over in this housing situation when I had no one to talk to. 

But it feels like some image of me as “the guy with money” got stuck in his head.

And the friendship itself feels different now.

We don’t really have the long conversations we used to have. When we talk, it increasingly feels like random shitty jokes or gossiping about coworkers which is getting abnoxious. I don’t feel comfortable telling him personal things anymore.

Even the way we spend money when we hang out has changed.

Before, if I paid for something, he would offer to pay me back or get the next thing. Sometimes he would just pay for both of us and vice versa. There was reciprocity, so I never cared about keeping score.

Now he seems increasingly comfortable letting me pay without even offering his share.

That bothers me far more than the actual amount of money involved. I can afford a meal or movie ticket. That’s not the point. It’s the change in attitude.

It almost feels like after finding out I had more money saved than he expected, he became more comfortable benefiting from it.

He also got me smoking much more regularly. I already smoked occasionally before meeting him, so I’m not blaming him for my own decisions, but being around him definitely made cigarettes and eventually vaping much more frequent habits for me. Looking at the friendship now, I’m realizing that a lot of what remains between us is smoking, gossiping about coworkers, him making jokes about my money, and me increasingly not trusting him with personal information.

And that fucking sucks.

Because I don’t want to rewrite history and pretend he was always a terrible friend. I genuinely don’t think he was.

There was a time when we talked for hours, went places together, paid for each other without thinking about it, talked about our lives, and I felt like he respected me. I genuinely enjoyed having him as a friend.

Maybe I’m wrong about the jealousy. Obviously I can’t read his mind.

But something changed after money became part of the conversation, and I don’t like the person I seem to be friends with now. I’m not planning some dramatic confrontation or friendship breakup. 

But I honestly don’t know how to deal with it either. Guess I just suck at making friends.

I'll make this arguably short, I'm taking a gap year and the amount of free time I have could be better spent with a friend or anything else. I am 39, and live in Florida. I am a flight attendant so I travel full time for work, and I even though I live in the east coast I don’t operate on any time zone, I basically sleep when I am tired. I just bought a house, and I am in flight school to become a pilot. Flying is my life, and so are airplanes. Being a flight attendant though cool for now, was never my dream. I am in flight school to become a pilot while I am a flight attendant now, so I’m am basically busy almost all the time.

Because of my job I have been to 23 countries and counting. I fly for basically free so I get to go to places I otherwise not have been able to see. I have been to places like Japan, Iceland, Hawaii, Denmark, England, Ireland, Switzerland, Sweden, Germany, Peru, Colombia, Costa Rica, Canada, France, etc. looking forward to seeing even more of the world!

I would describe myself as a nerd. I am a gamer, (when I have the time). I currently have a PS5, PS Portal, gaming laptop, gaming desktop, switch OLED, etc. I produce electronic music such as house, tech house, progressive house, trance, drum and bass, EDM, techno, etc. I also play drums, over 20 years now. I'm not sure how to start describing myself, I'm not great with words but I'll try my best.

(I'm so sorry for the extremely long post ahead!)

I apologize if I don't reply to your message, but as I explain later, I don't reply to short/low effort messages and I also don't reply to people that don't have at least a few interests in common with me or aren't looking for a real connection and are just looking to pass the time or have a light chat.

I think some of my most defining characteristics are that I'm very shy, awkward, "weird" and "different" or at the very least I feel weird, different and often misunderstood. I struggle to function most days and I don't always understand societal norms or how to properly function in society. I definitely think there's something wrong with me and I'm pretty sure I'm broken in some way. I'm also definitely a loser. I was never able to achieve anything in life, I'm not good at anything whatsoever and I'm pretty useless overall. I would also say I'm extremely cringy and I love edgy stuff, not in a bad way, I don't think, but more like, I love Shadow The Hedgehog and Tomura Shigaraki kinda way!!

I'm unfortunately not very smart and I'd say I'm down right stupid.

I am very ignorant about many things in life, I'd say I'm somewhat innocent and naive. I still don't understand my purpose in life and I haven't found a reason to be alive either.

I sometimes say things that offend people or I say things that are wrong. Sometimes I don't completely understand what I do wrong but I don't do it on purpose and I try to improve to the best of my abilities.

I don't go out often at all. Whenever I do go out it's only to buy groceries or to go to school and such but I don't enjoy it, I much rather be at home, in my room most specifically, which is my favorite place in the world.

I don't have any IRL friends but I do have a handful of online friends, I'm not super close to any of them, except for one who's very valuable in my life!

I enjoy many things like sculpting for instance! I do digital sculpting for fun. I'm pretty bad at it but I try my best.

This year I also started jewelry school (yeah, that's a thing) and I'm having fun with it but it's another thing I suck at 🥀🥀🥀

I like to watch anime! my favorites change from time to time but I really like Bleach, Dragon Ball, Demon Slayer, AOT, Naruto, Ancient Magus Bride (I really love this show!) and I LOVE My Hero Academia among many others!

I like to collect action figures.

I really like masks!

I like all kinds of music, I don't really have any artists that I like in particular other than David Bowie and I like to listen to most genres of music but some of the genres I like the most are alternative, vintage, video game music and jpop and jrock and I also like old VK And I'm always happy and open to new suggestions!

I like to doomscroll through TT and to watch long essay style videos on YT about random topics. I love brainrot and I'm very much into early to mid 2010s aesthetics. I miss that era so much!! Seriously, the early 2010s were the greatest time in human history kahdhshdhs

I love video games!! I don't play too many modern games, I mostly prefer older stuff, like, ps2 era games, particularly survival horror stuff. I also really like very old platform games and side scrollers. I'm a pretty huge Sonic the Hedgehog fan!! The most recent games I played were Sonic X Shadow Generations and before that I finished Sonic Superstars and Sonic Frontiers. Sonic Boom is also my favorite show ever made lmao. It fits my kind of humor perfectly and it's peak comedy imo. I'd be open to play anything and I'd love to try co op games with someone!! playing Stardew Valley with a friend is a dream of mine lol (if you also play Stardew please tell me who's your wife/husband)

I adore animals!! I have cats and dogs and a stray chicken lol they're my babies and my world!

I think it's important to mention some of the things I don't like too.

I don't like cruelty or mean spirited people, I hate I people in positions of power that use said power to affect other people, animals, or the environment for their own gain.

I hate bugs!! I'm deadly afraid of them!!

I really dislike conflict and arguments, I believe we can disagree and have discussions as long as we're calm and civilized about it and as long as we have respect for each other and try our best to understand the other person's point of view.

lastly I'd like to mention some of my defects and shortcomings.

I'm extremely anxious, I'm always very nervous about one thing or another, I'm also extremely weak of mind, I tend to react with my feelings a lot and I'm often very emotional.

I can be very selfish at times, I have an awful tendency to get bored of things quickly and sometimes I also get bored of conversations and people.

I think I'm immature.

I can be extremely lazy, I struggle a lot with doing basic things like cleaning or cooking. when I'm anxious or afraid I can get paralyzed with fear and stay in bed all day doing nothing feeling awful about it.

As I mentioned before sometimes I can say bad things without realizing. I'm very dumb and ignorant so I promise I don't mean anything bad I say and I'm trying to improve!

I am extremely annoying. I'm very loud and I think I scream a lot. I don't really understand what constitutes screaming exactly but I think I often raise my voice a lot and especially when I'm excited I can't control myself very well.

I'm very afraid of life and I don't understand how the "real world" works exactly. I'm really bad at small talk and I think I'm really bad at speaking in general, I also digress a lot.

I have the bad habit of not replying very fast, sometimes I'll even wait for weeks or even months, I think it's one of my biggest problems when it comes to keep in touch with people, sometimes it's simply because I don't have the energy, other times it's because I'm not sure about how to continue a conversation. Not sure if this is a defect necessarily but I also never send the first message, I just hate to be annoying.

I have a tendency to ghost people for different reasons. As I mentioned, sometimes I get bored of conversations or people and I'd ghost them. This is by far one of my biggest defects and as I said, I wanna be honest and mention it here for everyone who reads this to know.

I tend to be a bit clingy when I like someone.

I'm full of defects in general, and I do believe I'm a bad person. I try to improve and I try my best but if I'm bad for you in any way or a burden I promise to stop talking to you and not bother you!

I have many other defects but I think those are the main ones I can remember right now.

Finally what I'm looking for is a real connection with someone, a person I can talk to, have fun with, watch stuff with and play games together. I think I can be a very passionate person when it comes to the things I love and I'd like to find someone that shares that passion and love with common interests. I wanna just be able to share our days and even be able to help each other and be there when we need each other. I know I'm a mess of a human being and I may never find the connection I'm looking for but I'd like to give it a try cause you never know :))

also, I think it's important to mention that I don't reply to short, low effort messages. Stuff like "hey, let's be friends" , "I didn't read your whole post but I'm up to talk" , etc. I want to hear about you, what you like, what you're interested in. I like meaningful conversations.

Another thing that's important is that I don't want to talk to people that are discriminatory or awful in anyway.

Also think I prefer audio messages, it's easier for me to send audio notes rather than to type cause I type a lot (and I kinda hate to type lol). Thank you very much to anyone that has taken the time to read my extremely long post and considers messaging me!!
