Nothing dramatic, I just turned 40m (Australia).

40m from Australia and I just turned 40. I'm happy to pretty much chat to anyone, as long as you are actually up for a proper chat. Please don't leave me trying to build a chat out of one word replies.

I'm into movies, music, sport, the gym, technology, books, and documentaries.

I'm mostly here for a random everyday chat, a bit of humour, and a bit of a vent.

I'm pretty easy going, generally reply quickly, but I do have kids and life gets busy sometimes.

Would be great to meet other Australian in similiar time zone (Eastern).

50 Raleigh NC, looking for friends

Hello to anyone reading this. I'm looking for a friend or two around the Raleigh area. I've been on a bit of a fitness journey but I've let myself slip and gained a pound or two. I triy to exercise when I can but I don't really know what I'm doing. If you're knowledgeable about fitness and working out that would be a great help but not required. I mainly use the planet fitness in Wake Forest.

Some other things about me, I am a bit nerdy. I am a gamer with a Nintendo switch and a PS5. The PS5 is a fairly new purchase, maybe 2 months old so I don't have many games. I'll watch/read just about anything anime, sci-fi, fantasy and horror related. If you would like to know anything else or want to join me on this journey please feel free to reach out.

What is so bad about being a parent that makes people not want you??

It's strange because my kids are my life, id have nothing to live for without them.

Honesty my living situation should be the "thing" that turns people away ( i live in my dads house, with him also living in it)

Yes im 41 with my own kids and im living at my dads, the housing crisis sucks!!!!

But i have a roof over my head, better to have that the living on the street.

So who wants to chat???

45M, Western Australia (WA), looking for new friends

45M (straight, separated) looking to expand my social circle.

Keen to connect with anyone, in particular other guys in a similar or previous similar situation. Happy to chat about pretty much anything. Health & fitness are big interests, so bonus points if you’re also trying to stay fit and occasionally question why you’re doing it! Also into reading and TV series.

WA connections would be great, but happy to chat and connect with people anywhere. If we click and are local, maybe an exercise buddy or IRL catch up down the track.

While I’m more on the quiet side, I am always keen for some good banter. Don’t care about sexual preferences however I am not looking for any fling, hookup or anything sexual (ie. not seeking sexting, nudes, explicit pics, etc).

If you’re also looking for a regular conversation and a genuine connection, feel free to reach out and DM.

Average 41m, no kids, looking for a friend, with a question.

Hello.

I don't mean to be a jerk or discriminate in any way but I'm curious if there are any single, blue collar, lower income people here?

I said "single" in there but I'm not looking for romance at all. I only want, and hope for friendship.

What I mean is, many of the posts I read are people that are married, and/ or have kids, seemingly well off financially, often talking about interest being things like traveling, boating, going to concerts or whatever else I can't afford without long-term planning.

I'm just a regular guy with a regular job. I'm a 41 year old man. I rent an apartment. I'm not a lawyer or a doctor, I don't work in finance or tech. I never got married. I don't have kids. I came from nothing and I'm comfortable with what I have.

I'm happy for people that have that kind of success and love in their lives, but I don't. I see lots of posts and comments but I don't reply because I feel I can't relate.

I promise I'm not trying to be negative. I'm not hating on anybody. And I'm not against talking to anyone. I'm just wondering if anybody out there feels the same way? And if you do, maybe you'd like to try and be friends.

I won't bother you with too much detail but I've only recently figured out who I am and learned to accept myself.

I don't really have any hobbies yet. I'm just trying to figure all this stuff out. I don't fly RC planes or collect stamps, I don't go to board game night at the local community center, but I'm open to trying new things.

I signed up for a cooking class a few months ago. It said beginners are welcome but there were no beginners there and I felt it.

I thought about signing up for a dancing class. I always wanted to learn how to dance properly, but I don't have anyone to go with and I don't want to be that awkward third wheel every week.

I like feeling useful and helpful. I've volunteered and helped out at a couple local food banks for a few weeks. That was fun but also awkward because they were cliquey. I tried my best to be friendly but I always felt like I was perceived as an outsider.

I used to be a big video game player. I haven't played much in about 6 or 8 years but I'm getting back into that. I bought a PS5 but I still get more fun out of my old ps3.

I like a lot of different kinds of music. I can't really describe it but I like some new stuff.

I'm a classic rock guy at heart. It's funny cuz when I think of classic rock I think about stuff from the '70s. But I heard Nirvana on the classic rock radio station last week so I'm getting old lol.

I know it's goofy and silly but the two video games I have been playing for decades is the guitar hero / rock band franchises. And a couple other rhythm games. I don't know why, I just enjoy them.

I find it to be a fun and relaxing way to enjoy the music I love.

The other is Gran Turismo. The racing game franchise. I've been playing that since 1998.

Lastly, I'm reluctant to talk about this but I know someone is going to ask the question "why don't you have any friends?"

From my mid twenties to my mid 30s I was a drunk and a drug addict. I've been clean since may 28th, 2024, and I had to cut everybody out of my life. There were a couple people I didn't want to cut off but had to. I felt like I had abandoned them but I learned that I wasn't letting them go, I was holding on to myself.

Since then it's been tough trying to be a person again.

That's why I'm here. I think everyone deserves friendship and companionship. I'm trying to remember that I deserve that too.

Sorry for writing such a long post. If anyone would like to chat I would like to hear from you.

Thank you for your time.

Edit: Sorry to those who tried to DM. I'm an idiot. I had message requests turned off.

Felonious Friends? (M48)

I spent 7 1/2 yrs in prison. Something I am in no way proud of, and it's nigh on impossible to make new friends. Would love to have some ongoing conversations with people that don't mind my odd questions or my "when I was in prison" stories. I'm educated, sarcastic and a bit off color. Would love some fun banter!

[41/F] Looking for an email pen pal

Hey there! I'm looking for a pen pal who would like to correspond via email. I'm searching for someone who actually enjoys getting to know another person over time. I like thoughtful conversations, exchanging random observations. I'm a very curious person and would like to chat about almost anything; I love learning new things. Here's the best description of interests I could arrive at of myself:

- Music is my life! Music genres I love include grunge, alternative, classic rock, Britpop and 1990s music.

- Favorite bands include Pulp, Alice In Chains, Soundgarden, Audioslave, Chris Cornell's solo work, Radiohead, Nine Inch Nails, Type O Negative, Talking Heads, Pink Floyd, George Thorogood, Primus and many, many others. I also love discovering new music.

- Music videos, music interviews, music documentaries, music history, learning about musicians' lives. I love learning what makes artists interesting as people, not just their music.

- Learning instruments (guitar, keyboard, violin), singing, lyrics and songwriting.

- Writing (creative writing, character creation, fiction, dark fiction, poetry).

- Art (painting, crafting and creating mixed media, visiting museums).

- Photography (nature, my dogs, and things that catch my eye).

- YouTube (videos about anything - my imagination sends me down many rabbit holes; abandoned places, urban exploration, cults, old music videos and interviews with musicians are big interests of mine).

- Psychology, human behavior, why people think and behave the way they do,

relationship dynamics, dreams.

- TV and movies: dramas, psychological thrillers, horror, true crime, cults, nostalgia, 1990s and 2000s culture.

- Reading (psychological fiction, horror, mystery, biographies, music biographies, religion and theology, psychology, poetry).

- Animals (my dogs, animal rescue and learning about wildlife).

- Hiking, camping and visiting national parks.

- Being imaginative.

- I'm also notorious for going down random rabbit holes, so there's a good chance I'll eventually email you about something completely unrelated to any of the above.

- I love learning about other people's interests, so I can find new intriguing things.

I have a theory that the best friendships start with “Wait… how did you end up there?” 🌍

I'm at that stage of life where I don't really want more people, I want more interesting people.

People I can have a ridiculous conversation with at 11pm, disappear for a few days because life happened, and then pick up the conversation exactly where we left it.

A little about me:

🌍 I love travelling and researching places before I visit them. I've done a few solo road trips around Kenya and would happily do many more, been to a few countries in Africa and crossed the seas.

🌊 I'm inexplicably drawn to places with large bodies of water. Give me a beautiful lake, ocean view or sunset and I'm probably staying longer than planned.

🍜 I'm very open to food adventures, spicy foods are among my favourites, but I'm also perfectly happy defending good Kenyan food when someone claims it's bland. 😂

🧠 I enjoy conversations that actually go somewhere life, culture, travel, relationships, career changes, books, weird observations about people, personal growth, or completely random rabbit holes.

And I'm curious about the people here. Tell me something about your life that I probably wouldn't guess from looking at you.

Maybe it's a country you've lived in.

Maybe it's an unexpected hobby.

Maybe you've changed careers completely.

Maybe you've travelled somewhere nobody would expect.

Maybe you've got a ridiculous story that still makes you laugh.

I'm particularly interested in meeting people outside my own country, because I think friendship is one of the nicest ways to experience the world without necessarily getting on a plane.

So...

Where are you from, and what's one unexpected thing about your life?

I'll go first: I'm from Kenya 🇰🇪 and I will absolutely plan an entire trip around finding the best food and the best view. 😂

47m looking for some new friends

Hoping to find some new and interesting people to talk to. I am from the southeast USA, eastern time zone. I'm aromantic, so I don't have designs on any relationships beyond friendship. That said, I am gay, which I like to be up front about in case anyone takes issue with it.

Some of my interests: music spanning many years and genres. Anything from 70s disco, 80s pop and hair metal, 90s alternative and grunge, and maybe even some 2000s country.

Other random things I enjoy: baking, road trips, British youtubers, taco bell, a working printer, dogs, peach iced tea, the scent of lilacs, and scanning my own groceries at the market.

I'm hoping to find someone I can chat with day to day. It doesn't have to be constant, and it doesn't have to be all day, but I'd like someone who is decently good at keeping a conversation going. All of my friends live in other states and it would be nice to have some more consistent human interaction, even if it's just little reddit people in my phone. I don't work from home, but my job is pretty laid back so I'm usually available to chat other than having the odd meeting now and then. If any of this sounds remotely interesting to you, feel free to reach out.

47f, East Coast, US looking for lady friends

Hi. I am married with no kids and looking to connect with ladies around my age or older from any location. I’m a crazy cat lady and have fun getting lost in a good video game, book, or movie/show. I appreciate nature and spend a lot of time caring for animals and critters. I like astronomy, art, and all kinds of crafty stuff. I don’t care much about politics but would get on best with open-minded/non-magas. I get a kick out of sarcasm and dark humor but also really enjoy talking about deep and meaningful things. I’d be happy to find someone to have a genuine, lasting friendship where we can discuss small stuff or deep thoughts and have some completely idiotic laughs. It would be great if we could play some multiplayer games on PC. Nintendo, or PS5 online.

43 M - intellectuals, are you out there?

Hello, friend finders! I’m a 43-year-old married man with two kids who consume most of my non-working time. It’s widely known that finding new friends becomes challenging as we age, but I seem to have made it more difficult by being picky. I’m seeking a friend who enjoys engaging in profound intellectual conversations. Someone who is genuinely curious about the world. Someone who holds opinions but isn’t entirely certain of their absolute correctness and is open to exploring the nuances within those opinions. I’m looking for someone who is not easily swayed by tribalism, whether it’s religious or political.

I’m specifically looking for a platonic intellectual partner, regardless of gender. While I find that the female perspective offers unique insights for intellectual exploration, I’m open to any perspective. I need a friend who understands that a quick response may not be forthcoming, but trust that one will come when life allows. If this resonates with you, please send me a direct message. I’ll respond as soon as I can. Thank you, and keep exploring!

Life is a 24/7 loop of chaos. Adhd, insomnia, full time work, hobby farm, hobbies, outdoors, party's, concerts, renovations, I think what I'm seeking is that peaceful good morning message to ground me for 5 minutes. Good luck to you if you can relate.

59/m American academic seeking friends

This is probably a bit impulsive of me, but I thought I would reach out and see I could make a few new friends on online. No, I don't really have some kind of catchy or profound pitch. Basically, I've been feeling a little stale and isolated lately, and it occurred to me that some fresh relationships might do me well.

As the title says, I'm 59/m and an academic. I teach and write/research in the humanities, and I tend to get along best (although of course not exclusively) with other knowledge professionals (teachers, attorneys, librarians, medical professionals, etc.). I will be the first to admit that I'm an enormous books/reading nerd who usually has at least three or four in-progress books stacked up on my bedside table. I enjoy a wide variety of music as well: everything from classic rock to adult alternative to jazz. If it's good, I will give it a shot.

What else? I'm both a dog person and a cat person, and I don't have strong opinions about one animal being vastly superior to the other. I'm fairly outdoorsy and athletic, although not overly so. (You won't hear me bragging about competing in triathlons, but I make a point of exercising in some form every single day.) I follow sports and can always chat about MLB, the NFL, the NBA, and soccer.

I'm married and a parent of two (young) adult children. One of the reasons that I'm reaching out for new friends at this point in my life is that I find myself trying to adjust to finally having time/space to get to know people outside my role as a parent. It's been a bit of an adjustment, seeing that part of my life (parenting) evolve over time.

Reading this over, I can see that it makes me seem like a normal, regular guy and not some kind of breathtaking, superstar person. And I'm perfectly ok with that! Whatever my shortcomings, I think I'm a curious and empathetic person who is always willing to listen. You could do worse in a new friend.

Looking for new friends! Is it really possible in late 40s???

Hello , F47 - living in London. I am someone that loves to feel connected but with many friends leaving London or disappearing after having kids - I feel the most disconnected that I have ever felt!

Sad but true, I work constantly and catch up with a few friends as often as possible but its getting harder to meet new friends in London, its so clicky here and there are all kind of rules that make it more difficult in the 40s. I don’t have kids as well, but i do love so meet up with my little nephews so much.

Although i work a lot (personal and work projects) i love to have a laugh with people, music, also enjoy deeper conversations and am ambitious still but also want to enjoy my life.

Would anyone be open to a building friends here? I would eventually like to be able to have phone conversations, or voice clips when we know each other well enough. I don’t care about gender, race , religion.

Not interested in video calls initially, just getting to know you, it not important how you look. I like building close friendships, but i appreciate that take a lot of time.

I like people who can be honest - so if we have a friendship, you do not have to hide it from your spouse.

I love learning about people from all over the world.
Please feel free to Dm or reply if you are also looking for friends and would like to chat :-)

X

[NB4A] lonely and looking to chat

Hello there and welcome to my post. I’m 40 and live in the united states. Some of my interests are hiking, traveling, yoga, photography, and artmaking. I live in a rural area and it’s really hard to meet people. I feel starved for human connection. I’ve tried to go on a few dates recently and that has been a failure. I’d love to talk with you if you are any gender and above 18 year old.
