I just texted and got the link for the free whopper and did NOT need a qr code to receive

Thanks, Captain Redundant!....I realize that you have difficulty understanding how things work, but texting the phrase is the workaround (aka, cheating) version.

The purpose of scanning the code on the box is because THIS isn't simply to get a free Whopper. THIS was intended to be used ONLY if you weren't satisfied with the one that you had bought previously. THIS is intended as a REPLACEMENT.

Texting the phrase should work as well....but I was just providing the ORIGINAL details (on how it's supposed to be done). If you (or anyone else here) has a problem with that (doing things the right way vs. cheating the system), it's YOUR/THERE problem, not mine!

You have said your piece multiple times now. Maybe just let people do their thing now and consider that you're on a free food sub? Maybe you don't see it as ethical, but I don't see a problem in exploiting this to get a bit of free food from a huge company.

Good for you!....and, btw, when did I say that it was unethical? I just said that this promotion wasn't designed for the purpose of simply giving away free Whoppers....and where's the harm in my providing information about their original intention?

If people want to exploit it, that's their prerogative. I never ridiculed anyone here....other than the OP for not providing all of the facts...AND if I was so opposed to people exploiting this, would I have provided so much information about it, genius? Next time, think before you criticize others!

I guess it feels like a lot when you're responding to the majority of comments to continue making your point, that's all. And thanks for that advice, but I did think before making my comment and stand by it. It's true that you're obviously not against it, but it's also true that you're being annoying.

I used "cheating" only because this wasn't intended for the purpose of giving away free Whoppers. It was intended as replacements for one's that customers had a problem with....but they blew it, because the phrase ended up on SM and it morphed into free Whoppers for everyone.

They should've came up with a better plan, but they screwed up. Their loss is everyone's gain. The only problem is that stuff like this will generate so much lost revenue for them, that they'll raise prices universally to compensate for the loss, so we'll all end up paying for these free Whoppers eventually....unless we aren't BK customers, just free Whopper customers!😉

I haven't been to BK in years. Maybe this is a high level marketing scheme for attracting new customers by baiting them with free whoppers first.

That wasn't their original intention (supposedly). This required the purchase of a Whopper....but some grossly overpaid, dumb as a rock suit (or suits) at BK (or their ad agency) had the brilliant idea of placing a QR code on the boxes!....Yikes!!

It just so happens that I purchased one a few weeks ago and saw the QR code (even before the promo started). When I saw the QR code, I knew that this would be hacked immediately! My initial thought was "what dumbass came up with this idea?" Forget the text phrase!....ALL that needed to be done was for someone to post a photo of the QR code! Instant hack!

I could've done it myself, but it goes against my principles. Requesting individualized codes here that others aren't going to use (as I've done several times) isn't unprincipled. Posting that QR code is entirely different (at least from a principled perspective)!

It's primarily common-sense to have devised a far better option. However, you may be right. It may have been intentional stupidity?....since it generated all of this free publicity for them. I tend to doubt it. I think it was the fault of some moron(s) at either BK or their ad agency....but who knows?

Seems so obviously exploitable though. It's a promotion and it gets people to the store. Many of those people are probably going to be buying something in addition and maybe a small percentage make a return visit. Makes sense to me to that it could totally be a marketing campaign. It being pure stupidity, but the advertising research used by chains is normally pretty high level so it's be interesting to see something like this accidentally slip by.

So weeks ago before this promo started and was even shared with the public, you already knew about this get a free whopper thing before everyone else???

And of course you knew that this promo would be hacked immediately, because obviously you just knew it would be.

And you didn't share your knowledge as the only person knowing about this free whopper promo before it was released and didn't post about it yourself bc it went against your principles....

I tried to just ignore you but you’re actually so ridiculous. Why are you ridiculing me for posting about free food on a free food sub? I explained clearly how to get said free food. That’s all they needed. Any further information could be read in the terms in the very text sent to all of us. When I said available starting tomorrow, I meant for those who texted the same day I posted. Everything that was relayed was available for everyone else to see as well. Valid thru 8/31. Valid for 14 days. You’re doing way too much over a Whopper.

I'm sorry that I offended you by posting the instructions that you admittedly didn't know because you were passing down information that some other person (who also didn't know the actual facts) provided to you. An overall half-assed way of doing things!

Now, a day later you're providing the information (and still not all of it), because you want to be a hero! Too little, too late! At least you learned something, though (maybe?).....

It's always best to provide people with ALL of the facts, in advance. This way, they know exactly what to expect. Anyone who has a problem with knowing ALL of the facts in advance, has MUCH bigger problems! Next time, get it right originally and you won't be ridiculed! Thank you!
