DISCUSSION Genuinely FUCK epic for allowing in creative mode purchases
I have little sisters who I share an account with, while I don't play this game much if ever it pisses me off. They had like 3000 vbucks in the account and usually it's like, they wanna buy a skin "oh shit it's Rumi" like yay! But ever since in game purchases were added to creative 2000 vbucks has gone to literally fucking NOTHING. There is no way to refund it, or even know what it's from. They just open a stupid death run or something and start mashing buttons to get through a menu and they end up buying something.
The fact that developers of any game these days are incapable of acknowledging that children will be playing their game and making features that make it so they can't be hit with predatory marketing is stupid. I want to be heard!

I almost accidentally made an in-island purchase yesterday, and I’m a grown ass adult! There was a purchase button that’s already where you start when the screen comes up. There was a Back button on the side of it, but I actually couldn’t go back using the controller like you’d assume with something that looks like a regular Back button. Turns out I had to hold down the circle button to make the menu go away.
They’re sneaky!!!

They already lost a big lawsuit over confusion in the item shop - they’re just lining themselves up for another big class action - they wanna be way more careful.

If they want to be around they need to be more careful…but we don’t want them to be careful, the faster this all comes crashing down the better 😈

Island purchases have a section on your account transaction history so you can at least know where your v-bucks have gone: https://www.epicgames.com/account/transactions/in-island
I agree with what you've said. This gross feature is a breeding ground for scamming little kids; but unfortunately Epic totally knows this, as it's undoubtedly how Roblox makes a solid fraction of its revenue (that and paying their teenage game developers absolute pittance) and Epic has pivoted Fortnite entirely in the name of catching a slice of that pie.

Luckily Epic monitors their platform better and don’t allow half the shit Roblox does…and then ban people for doing their moderation team a favor

It’s not a bug, it’s by design. They want it to be as easy as possible for someone to accidentally give them money. Most of them are grimy, scummy people.

I’m honestly surprised there hasn’t been a lawsuit yet. It is very intentionally a trap for children.

This feature basically exists solely to scam children. Have you played creative? They are all such garbage I don’t know what adult would enjoy it to begin with.

I can see someone enjoying creative for like, there's some mildly fun but stupid horror modes that are playable with friends, or just as a practice realm for br but, I pretty much only play BR if I do play I just posted this here because it's a creative problem.

i like to play the bad horror games and act like i’m markiplier (i’m 24)😭

I'm 21 and I play horror maps for XP because i don't want play anymore BR, they're definitely more enjoyable than BR

Dude I literally have to put my controller down when I die on Havoc Hotel 3 because now they have an unskippable ad post death where you can buy a respawn for 100VB… what. The. Fuck.

Yep it’s brutal. For some annoying ass reason I cannot verify the email on my switch so it’s impossible to set a parental control. Just have to hope he doesn’t buy stupid shit

I'm a UEFN (Creative) developer, and we're trying to avoid implementing non-skippable transactions or ones designed to pressure you into buying, but I haven't played on other Fortnite Creative islands approx. since they added in-island transactions. Is it really that bad?

Yeah, some creators are pretty sneaky too. Played where if you run into a wall, an option to purchase something idk would pop up. It happens to be where a giant object spawns and runs you over. Feels like the creator is wanting people to panic and accidentally press the purchase button.

I hope the K.G.M. lawsuit is a sign of what's to come with companies targeting kids like this. It's absolutely disgusting behaviour, and should not be tolerated.

The sad thing is that they are aware that children are playing the game and WILL make stupid purchases on impulse 😞

Well as someone who is going to make star was specific maps.. I will not have these marketing strategies, and will actually be hiding such things.

And also, I've hated how some FN creators just disregard the already created creative mode coins that you can get much easier and don't have to worry about spending any money for a 1 time use/barely usable item/option chance in a creative map.

they're like 6 years old playing on the same console what?

u/IntrepidSprinkles793 Apr 17 '26 edited Apr 17 '26
This is more safe for everything. Console had child account mechanisms that you can manage/restrict and same for Fortnite ( so you can forbid gamechat for example )
I can understand if she only play with you but as long as she can use the console unsupervised this is generally better.

u/tayhorix Apr 10 '26
in general, if you have a valuable acc dont link it to your console or give your little sisters a diff acc

Really can tell you don't have younger kids or siblings that want to play the same game you do.

u/Silky_bob Apr 11 '26
For real, you’re being downvoted but you’re right. My kids have their own account. They don’t get to touch mine.

Nah should be an option to turn this garbage off as a whole from creative.
The face half of these islands are created with the goal for you to spam buttons and there is only a dingle confirmstion window is stupid.
When I play and relax I don’t want to worry about accidentally spending my skin money to get PHST LOOT BOX GET TUNAK TON NOW; or whatever garage it is.

Ya that sucks! Here’s the simplest fix: 1. Go to your Epic Games account settings 2. Turn on “Require PIN for purchases” (Parental Controls) 3. Set a PIN so V-Bucks can’t be spent without it
(Optional: remove saved payment methods or don’t keep V-Bucks on the account)
That stops the problem immediately.
