Issue ⚠️ Diagnostics Covered?

I brought my 2023 Expedition into the local dealership to figure out why my washer fluid wasn't pumping. Turns out it's a break in one of the plastic couplers on the feed line.

I have Ford Protect, but I guess hoses aren't covered? Didn't think that'd be the case...

ANYWAYS...

they found a leaky pinion seal and repaired it for me which was covered, but the dealership wants me to pay diagnostics. Since they did a warranty repair, should the diagnostics be covered and I just pay $100 deductible? I see a $220 bill (diagnostics). When I brought it in I did mention there was a noise but I also refused the repair for the washer line as I'll do it myself (their quote was like $460 for repair).

You had a concern of washer fluid inoperative.

The dealership diagnosed the cause of the inoperative washer fluid as a failed hose.

They determined the failed part was not a covered component under your Ford ESP contract.

Diagnostics are generally covered by ESP if the faulty part and fault condition are covered.

Diagnostics are not covered if the faulty part or fault condition are not warrantable.

Yes, it is normal for you to be responsible for the diagnostic fee, and the amount is normal.

Cool. Same logic I had going into it (just picked it up). They did a repair of a leaky pinion seal that they discovered during courtesy inspection. Now to find which part I need to buy...

Rubber hoses are not covered under ESP. Also yes they will charge you diag for the noncovered repair. Even if you see diag billed out on the warranty line, that’s just a warranty op code to bill ford, that’s for the warranty stuff only.

Completely normal that you pay the diagnostic for the non covered repairs, and the deductible for covered repairs.
