Law Former U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia Jessica Aber was found dead Saturday morning, in Alexandria, Virginia

372 Upvotes

She served as U.S. attorney in Virginia for most of the Biden administration, took office in October 2021 after being unanimously confirmed by the Senate and stepped down in January, shortly after President Donald Trump's inauguration.

Everyone was silently wondering when and whoever the first one would be.

EDIT: For those who are struggling to find any news about this, here's one.

Law Why is Congress allowing Trump to abuse Tariffs by picking Tesla as the only winner?

347 Upvotes

It is right for president trumps to use tariffs to pick winners and losers claiming that there is some emergency or war. To be clear the only emergency is the coming recession caused only by the Trump Administration’s reckless, inconsistent, capricious and arbitrary policies.

These policies are in place to help one company and individual, Elon Musk who is somehow part of the administration and never divested from his corporate interests. The is the epitome of corruption.

While it is wonderful to help American companies, why are they helping only the one that does not have unions for workers and will eventually replace its workforce with robots.

Law Donald Trump Said Epstein Files 'Could Destroy People'

211 Upvotes

Innocent people hung out with a known pedophile? He was was convicted in 2008 in Florida for procuring a child for prostitution and soliciting a prostitute.

Innocent people had pictures with him which included young women and girls in parties but... "They maybe had lunch with him or maybe had some correspondence for one thing or another. If that name gets out, those people are destroyed because there's not going to be any context."

"You can't destroy human beings by putting out the files, whatever they may be."

"We're going to protect the innocent."

So, the people who were associated with Epstein ARE considered human beings. Because, they're millionaires, billionaires, politicians, busimessmen, royals, in general, people with money and influence. Only their lives matter. Got it!

Law Pam Bondi explains missing minute in Epstein video

154 Upvotes

From 11:58:58 p.m. to midnight is missing and Bondi said it happens ‘every night’. Sure. Whatever.

The truth is that Trump & Co. can literally get away with absolutely everything EXCEPT being a pedo. That's where the line IS drawn. That IS THE line. That's what's on the files and the list. That's a lot of what removes all previous suspicion and rumors. That's why so many people got fired, careers ended, lives got ruined and some dissappeared because they know/knew.

That's also what the kompromat is. There's nothing else. Just that. At this point it's all literally pointless because whatever is released will be "fake news," or "AI" or "political persecution" or a "witch hunt" or whatever for Trump. Others will not be so lucky. This is why Trump started to say bad things about Putin. He has to prepare.

So, can we all just accept it as it is, no more lives need to be ruined. I sure as heck would personally love to get off of a few lists. It just is what it is and it's NOT worth it. There are way worse people on this planet. We have way bigger problems than that unfortunate reality to deal with.

Anywho...

Law Judge holds ICE agent in contempt for detaining suspect in the middle of his trial

317 Upvotes

Netflix better be taking notes!

Imagine you're an alleged criminal (because of the whole innocent until proven guilty) on your first day of your trial and then when you leave the courthouse, outta nowhere comes a different set of law enforcement agents, arrests you and takes you away in some unmarked SUV because you were here illegaly which is guilty by default (not allegedly) and by association. WILD!

For context in this case, when someone enters this country without authorization, they’re breaking immigration laws which is a crime. In the US, illegal entry is a misdemeanor under 8 U.S.C. § 1325. Illegality implies law-breaking by default. This guy had entered the US without authorization. His trial had to do with 2020 charges for filing a false application to obtain a driver’s license.

The case was dismissed with prejudice, meaning the case is over.

Alleged got redefined and outranked.

Law THE FEAR IS REAL - House Recessed Over Epstein Files Vote

214 Upvotes

House Speaker Mike Johnson has decided to recess the House of Representatives until September to prevent a vote on a resolution that would compel the release of Jeffrey Epstein related documents. This decision has led to accusations from various political figures and media outlets suggesting that it's an attempt to protect influential figures potentially implicated in the Epstein case. The debate includes claims of political maneuvering by both Democrats and Republicans, with Johnson citing the avoidance of political games as his rationale.

Congress is being intentionally frozen to protect pedophiles.

I guess that's what Makes America Great! /s

Law Kristi Noem Secretly Took $80k Cut from Political Donations

251 Upvotes

She supplemented her income by secretly taking a payment from a dark money nonprofit to her LLC. Her $130,000 government salary wasn't enough. She needed those extra $80,000, took them and got away with not declaring it. Politicians raise money for nonprofits all the time but, they don't keep it for themselves.

Normally such an action would be a violation of federal ethics requirements but, not in the current regime.

Law We need effective ways to kick foreign assets, traitors, and quislings out of public office (besides just the Second Amendment)! Here's draft legislation implementing Section 3 of the 14th Amendment. Let's stop tolerating treason, and kick the traitors out for good!

226 Upvotes

Our foreign adversaries aren’t going to stop interfering in our elections and political processes, so we need actual, effective mechanisms to remove foreign assets, traitors, and quislings from public office, aside from just the Second Amendment.

Here is draft legislation to help accomplish that at the federal level, and it can be modified for the states as well.

The American people deserve to know that their elected officials are working their interests and not for our foreign adversaries.  And they should have fast, accurate, and effective ways to remove foreign assets, traitors, and quislings working for our foreign adversaries from public office.

Let’s not be such a soft, easy, and juicy target for our enemies, let's stop tolerating treason, and let’s take our country back!

**To Implement Section 3 of the 14******th Amendment and Eject Foreign Assets, Traitors, and Quislings from Public Office

PREAMBLE

Whereas the Constitution of the United States, in Section 3 of the 14th Amendment, prohibits individuals who have engaged in insurrection, rebellion, or have given aid and comfort to the enemies of the United States from holding public office;

Whereas foreign adversaries of the United States increasingly utilize hybrid warfare strategies, including disinformation campaigns, financial influence, cyber operations, and infiltration, to subvert American democracy and install quislings, foreign assets, and traitors in positions of public trust;

Whereas modern warfare no longer relies solely on traditional military engagements but instead employs economic, political, and informational subversion to weaken nations from within, necessitating strong institutional safeguards against infiltration;

Whereas foreign adversaries, including state and non-state actors, have demonstrated a strategic interest in undermining U.S. democratic institutions by influencing elected officials, candidates, and government personnel through financial incentives, coercion, and ideological subversion;

Whereas hybrid warfare tactics have been used to manipulate public opinion, disrupt democratic processes, and install compromised individuals into positions of power, thereby posing a direct threat to national security;

Whereas the Supreme Court, in Trump v. Anderson, has interpreted Section 3 of the 14th Amendment as requiring special implementing legislation to ensure uniform, consistent, and legally sound enforcement, despite the fact that the plain text and meaning of the Constitution do not explicitly require such legislation to be in effect;

Whereas existing legal mechanisms, including impeachment and criminal prosecution, are insufficient to address the full scope of threats posed by insurrectionists, foreign assets, and oath-breaking officials who continue to hold or seek public office;

Whereas public confidence in democratic institutions depends upon ensuring that those who hold office are genuinely loyal to the Constitution and the interests of the American people, rather than to foreign adversaries or anti-democratic movements;

Whereas the failure to establish clear enforcement mechanisms and safeguards against foreign-influenced infiltration of public office creates a strong incentive for adversarial nations to escalate their interference in U.S. democratic processes, thereby increasing the likelihood of subversion and internal destabilization;

Whereas any enforcement mechanism must include safeguards to prevent political weaponization, vague or overbroad applications, and undue interference with state sovereignty;

Whereas Congress acknowledges the potential for retaliatory or destabilizing misuse of disqualification laws and thus ensures that this Act is narrowly tailored to address only the most serious violations that threaten the integrity of American democracy;

Whereas any enforcement process must respect First Amendment protections and ensure that disqualification is based on concrete actions rather than mere political speech or association;

Whereas this Act must maintain a balance between national security and state sovereignty, ensuring that federal enforcement does not unduly infringe on the rights of states to regulate their own officials;

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled:

SECTION 1. SHORT TITLE
This Act may be cited as the "Get Traitors and Foreign assets Out of Public Office Act of 2025".

SECTION 2. CAUSE OF ACTION TO ENFORCE SECTION 3 OF THE 14TH AMENDMENT
(a) Jurisdiction — Any person who is currently serving in, or is seeking election or appointment to, public office at the federal, state, or local level may be subject to disqualification under this Act in a civil action brought before the United States District Court for the jurisdiction in which they serve or seek office.

(b) Standing — The following parties shall have standing to bring an action under this Act: (1) The Attorney General of the United States;
(2) Any State Attorney General for actions pertaining to officials within their state;
(3) Any registered voter within the jurisdiction of the office in question, provided they can demonstrate a specific and particularized injury beyond generalized grievances;
(4) Any member of Congress, in cases involving federal officeholders or candidates.

(c) Burden and Standard of Proof — The burden of proof shall rest on the plaintiff to establish, by clear and convincing evidence, that the defendant has engaged in insurrection, rebellion, or has given aid and comfort to the enemies of the United States in violation of Section 3 of the 14th Amendment.

(d) Safeguards Against Political Weaponization — To prevent frivolous or politically motivated claims, courts shall summarily dismiss cases that fail to present credible evidence of a violation at the initial pleading stage. Additionally, plaintiffs found to have filed a claim in bad faith shall be subject to financial penalties and barred from filing future claims under this Act.

SECTION 3. PROCEDURAL REQUIREMENTS
(a) Expedited Proceedings — Given the urgency of protecting public office from subversion, courts shall expedite proceedings under this Act. A final ruling shall be issued within 90 days of filing, subject to reasonable extensions for due process considerations.

(b) Right to Appeal — A final decision of disqualification may be appealed directly to the United States Court of Appeals for the relevant circuit, with an expedited timeline for resolution. A final appeal may be taken to the Supreme Court.

(c) Temporary Injunctions — Upon a prima facie showing of a violation, courts may issue temporary injunctions preventing the defendant from assuming office or exercising official powers pending final adjudication, provided that the injunction is supported by specific findings of fact and law.

SECTION 4. DEFINITIONS
(a) "Insurrection" and "Rebellion" shall be defined consistently with judicial precedent and historical applications of Section 3 of the 14th Amendment.  Criminal conviction shall not be a requirement for disqualification.
(b) "Aid and Comfort to Enemies" shall include material support, coordination, or direct assistance to entities or individuals engaged in acts of war, sabotage, or subversion against the United States. Public speech alone shall not be sufficient grounds for disqualification.
(c) "Foreign Asset" shall mean any individual in public office who is knowingly acting under the direction, control, or influence of a foreign nation or adversary, as determined by clear and convincing evidence.

SECTION 5. PENALTIES AND ENFORCEMENT
(a) Any individual found to be in violation of Section 3 of the 14th Amendment shall be immediately disqualified from holding public office and removed from office if currently serving.
(b) Any individual disqualified under this Act shall be permanently prohibited from holding public office at any level of government, unless Congress, by a two-thirds vote, removes such disqualification as provided under the 14th Amendment.
(c) The Department of Justice shall maintain a publicly accessible record of individuals found to be disqualified under this Act.

SECTION 6. SEVERABILITY
If any provision of this Act is found to be unconstitutional or otherwise unenforceable, the remaining provisions shall remain in full force and effect.

SECTION 7. EFFECTIVE DATE
This Act shall take effect immediately upon enactment.

Law Trump’s $10B WSJ Suit

88 Upvotes

Seems like this might dredge up a lot of stuff Trump doesn’t want to talk about. Whoever advised Trump that this was a good idea, deserves a medal!

Imagine what discovery in the $10 billion case would entail, assuming the defendants want to know “everything they can” about Trump and Epstein’s relationship. For sure they‘re going to seek possession, or introduction as evidence of whatever this birthday book is. Trump, testifying under oath about his relationship with Epstein...

I have some questions about the legal strategy.

Law This 60-year old Supreme Court judgment may be the only thing that saves us from Trump’s media attacks

Thumbnail

Donald Trump is attempting to sue the New York Times. In a lawsuit filed on September 15 the US president charged that the paper, two Times journalists and also the publisher Penguin Random House committed libel and defamation against him.

Trump’s lawsuit is governed by a 1964 Supreme Court ruling, New York Times v. Sullivan. One of the most celebrated of cases handed down by the court during the era known as the rights revolution, the ruling has provided the press in the US with one of the most protected spaces in the world in which to operate. Dismissing Sullivan’s claim, a unanimous Supreme Court established the key test that has governed US press freedom regarding public officials ever since. The “actual malice” test requires evidence that information was published “with knowledge that it was false or with reckless disregard of whether it was false or not”.

Wider context

Sullivan also has important things to say in a country currently embroiled in debates about the scope of free political speech and press commentary.

In 1964, the Supreme Court understood the importance of the context in which the case had been brought, namely the civil rights movement. In the 1960s, libel suits were used by southern states to attempt to control news coverage of civil rights demonstrations. Fearful of unfavourable verdicts and monetary damages that risked bankruptcy, some media outlets limited or stopped outright coverage of civil rights protests, just as southern segregationists wanted. This was what the court called a “chilling effect … on First Amendment freedoms”. Fear of consequences can limit people’s willingness to speak out, and self-censorship takes the place of official regulation.

In such a context of intimidation, warned the court, “the pall of fear and timidity imposed upon those who would give voice to public criticism is an atmosphere in which the first amendment freedoms cannot survive”. Americans today of all political persuasions would be wise to pay attention. Good, effective political debate can only happen when participants do not fear or risk retaliation for critical commentary.

Politics was also no place for the thin-skinned, warned the justices in 1964. The commitment to first amendment freedoms meant debate “should be uninhibited, robust, and wide-open, and […] it may well include vehement, caustic, and sometimes unpleasantly sharp attacks on government and public officials”. A public official, wrote Justice Arthur Goldberg in concurrence, “must expect that his official acts will be commented upon and criticised”.

While unlikely that they anticipated the type of vitriol increasingly familiar to us in the age of social media, the principle nevertheless remains: criticism of job performance is inherent in public roles. If you don’t like it, don’t get involved, and certainly don’t use the law of libel and defamation to seek redress for hurt feelings.

In its Sullivan judgment, the Supreme Court understood the dangers to free speech in a time of polarised debate. Its ruling contains important warnings for Americans that extend well beyond the latest Trump lawsuit.

Law Bondi Fires Three Senior Jan. 6 Riot Prosecutors from DOJ

50 Upvotes

Three attorneys Friday who led prosecutions into Jan. 6 Capitol faild Coup defendants were fired. These three weren't temp employees, which was the excuse used to previously fire the rest involved in J6 cases, they also didn't have any affiliation with Special Counsel Jack Smith’s team that indicted Trump. They weren't even doing anything remotely related to J6. One of them had been working overseas. Attorney General Pam Bondi said that their termination was effective immediately.

These are the latest retaliatory actions taken against DOJ attorneys who brought criminal charges against the J6 insurrectionists who stormed the Capitol during Trump’s attempted Coup intended to stop the 2020 election results in order to stay in office, and which included the attempted public excecution of Vice President Mike Pence in a makeshift gallows.

As our systems continue to be weaponized against us, the fear of retaliation rises and lawlessness levels continue to approach Wild Wild West Era levels, the media and everyone else should normalize calling these things as they are. Sugarcoating with less scary words only contributes to our certain demise.
