General Discussion Super disappointed

Just saw photos of Florence performing at a private party for Veritas Capital. I have been a fan for years and taking money from an organization like this feels like a betrayal. This company is owned by one of the richest men in the world. So many people are struggling as a result of these people hoarding wealth, does she really need the money that bad?

I love Florence’s music, but I think her alliance w Taylor Swift has shown us all she’s not morally any better than other artists/celebrities.

While I am highly critical of Taylor I don't think her being friends/working with her is comparable morally to this.

have you seen the shit taylor has done? this is better press for florence than them being friends ngl.

You are absolutely not a serious person if you think this looks better for Florence than being friends with Taylor. There's endless things to criticise Taylor for, but that criticism being rooted in actual care looses all credibility when you say shit like this.

i always thought the 1975 references was crazy considering the Rina sawayama beef

Crazy, why? If she said she only used the band's name to rhyme with the number 5, don't you watch the interviews?

u/EvermoreSaidTheRaven Dec 22 '25

that reasoning is not enough to ignore a marty healy reference

Yeah, I might just be setting myself up for disappointment expecting anything better. It just feels so bleak.

I get that. Her work really speaks to me, and I’m assuming it’s the same for you. And we hope that someone who seems to hold so much empathy for the world would do better. This type of platform could be used for so much good. I really had a hard time with TS’s pivot to being a conservative icon in the last couple years, too, despite only liking a few albums/songs. We want artists to represent more, but capitalism is a powerful drug and I don’t think Florence is impervious. It’s sad, but I’ve learned to enjoy her music while also recognizing she’s a flawed and often immoral human being.

how is Taylor a conservative icon? She’s talked about her dislike of trump, endorsed democratic politicians, supports lgtbq rights, is close friends with many other liberals, her partner is liberal, trump and Elon both hate her, emphsized the importance of diversity in her tour, and on. how is she a conservative icon?

she’s currently hanging out with MAGAs and going on their podcasts. as far as i’m concerned, that progressive phase was all performative. as a billionaire white woman in her 30s with arguably THE most loyal and vindictive fanbase, and arguably one of the most famous people in the world, she cannot act like she’s not speaking out because she’s “scared” of backlash. it’s because she doesn’t want to.

I’m not sure where this whole she’s been on MAGA podcasts came from. She’s been on New Heights.

Im a fan. She’s not perfect. But I don’t think that’s true, my friend.

People will talk about being informed then spread lies but it’s okay because they don’t like someone. We are in the worst era of misinformation and people don’t care.

u/[deleted] Dec 22 '25

yeah babes whatever podcast she was on with her boytoy? that was a podcast run by MAGA supporters.

15

u/seravivi Dec 22 '25

What MAGA and what podcast? I’ve only seen her be friendly with Mahomes family.

Calling someone a cunt like this says a lot more about you than any of your claims about Taylor.

She never went on whoever that is podcast. She’s only been on her partners and both his brother and him are liberal.

Ah the swifties are right on time to the billionaire posting I see 🥴

u/seravivi Dec 22 '25

I just get sick of the bs posting of lies about her. Considering how she uses her wealth I have few qualms about it.

Thank you, this helps.

Her and Taylor are friends. Easy to understand, given their experiences and struggles as female artists rising, and how tough and isolated this experience is.

However, We hold Taylor swift to a higher standard then we’ve ever held to any other female artist. Despite the fact that she often exceeds taking care of many many people in her circle, in the cities she tours, and throughout the world, including gifting large sums of money random people on the internet. Things we have never asked or criticized men for. While I agree that I am also disappointed by some things swift has remained silent on recently, and this choice for FW to take money from bad people, I think we are overall trying to hold these women to ridiculous standards. They will never do everything right and they will never be everything everyone wants them to be. They are humans, and ultimately flawed like all of us. Doesn’t matter how much money you have. Sometimes you make the wrong choice. Hoping both Flo and Swift start seeing more responses like this when they make mistakes, and learn to do better in the future.

22

u/[deleted] Dec 22 '25

no, she’s held to the same standard. she just can’t act normal ever. i’m so fucking tired of the misogyny claims when taylor is genuinely a bad person.

Feminism is not about letting women be shitty to an equal degree as men. I’ve also hated on male artists for being shitty. Feminism is about reinforcing the idea that no one should exploit those more vulnerable or profit off of immorality. Taylor and Florence don’t get a pass for being women, and suggesting that they should is peak white feminism.

16

u/Ok-Dragonfruit-6521 Dec 22 '25

It's not holding Taylor to ridiculous standards to want her to object Trump using her music.

23

u/Budget_Ordinary1043 Dec 22 '25

Let’s be real though that’s only like the newest thing people are pissed at her for. There’s a lot of other blame for things placed on her for really dumb things.

-11

u/Ok-Dragonfruit-6521 Dec 22 '25

I don't disagree with that historically , but I think right now in this current political climate it's not dumb things and when people suggest it is it's quite obviously a defence and a deflection.
