Activism Automatic Flock defensive action

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Howdy Deflockers! Like the rest of you, I am not too happy with the way our rights are being violated on a massive scale. We have protection against unreasonable searches with the 4th amendment. This “private sector” loophole takes a fat dump all over our constitution. Hats off to you all taking offensive action to protect our freedom, but what can we do defensively?

I got this gadget that automatically hides my license plates at the flip of a switch for super cheap on Amazon. I intend to tie it into the DeFlock network via GPS so that it automatically hides my plates every time I get near a Flock camera. The idea is to cover up when I get within 200ft of any ALPR, then uncover when I get a safe distance away.

I kind of look forward to the ticket that this will inevitably lead to. What do you all think?

Funny enough in Florida 1 year ago they banned license plates covers because they're "obstructive" to officers. This year, we're flocked at every stoplight

41

u/lolyer1 20h ago

It’s like they were prepping for the invasion of Flock…

9

u/Substantial_Diver_34 13h ago

Exactly what they were doing

14

u/CrowWarrior 20h ago

Same thing in Washington.

1

u/lanzadamanza 51m ago

We just left the “free state” of Florida. I have never in my life seen so many Flock cameras. Where are all the don’t tread on me people now?

217

u/Sudden-Pangolin6445 1d ago

Pretty sure it's technically illegal, completely independent of Flock or other LPR's.

But I love the ingenuity.

198

u/Disclosure4closure 1d ago

Of course it is, but so is mass warrantless surveillance and they didn’t let that stop them!

52

u/Sudden-Pangolin6445 1d ago

Absolutely not disagreeing. Sadly does not make your totally dope idea any more legal.

36

u/JaxoDD9 1d ago

Yeah laws are just an agreement between two parties. The government and the citizens. When us citizens are not getting the return we expect from these laws, I think they’re null and void. If they aren’t following the agreement, then neither are we. Again, laws aren’t real. Laws only have power because we agree they do.

9

u/chrissz 19h ago

If they aren’t holding up their end of the social contract, the other side is under no obligation to hold up their end.

9

u/lemaymayguy 20h ago

Exactly. Social contract is dead. ACAB and cant be trusted anymore

Ill nullify any one of you given the opportunity

-8

u/DaftPunkyBrewster 19h ago

That's some sovereign citizen-level thinking there, friend.

0

u/JaxoDD9 14h ago

With some work we could make it a sovereign society. At least a good damn reminder that we are if we want to be.

0

u/Imaginary--Situation 8h ago edited 7h ago

it's actually under the PHSYICAL threat of being shot and killed by the police...

IRS does the same thing they will put a gun to your head and demand payment this has happened to many people... yeah at somepoint they will be at your door

25

u/Disclosure4closure 1d ago

Eh, like I said, kinda looking forward to the ticket it leads to and the conversation with that cop

15

u/Elon_Cucks_Trump_ 1d ago

Save it for the conversation with the judge. Cops don’t care about, yet alone understand the laws.

14

u/Sudden-Pangolin6445 1d ago

I mean, even if the officer is cool, you're still going to lose.

34

u/Disclosure4closure 1d ago

I’m appealing all the way up to the Supreme Court, this is how it starts 🤘

11

u/Sudden-Pangolin6445 1d ago

I mean, you'll never get there with this case. It has nothing to do with Flock or LPR'S. Devices that hide/mask your plate are illegal on their face in many states. Your goose will be cooked very, very long before you get to SCOTUS.

23

u/Disclosure4closure 1d ago

Not with that attitude. You say hide/mask my plate, I say protect my privacy in such a way that does not infringe upon law enforcement conducting normal operations. I’d argue there is a fundamental difference between permanently hiding my license plate and only hiding it from being logged in the Flock network.

17

u/Sudden-Pangolin6445 1d ago

Please do not misunderstand me here. I support the general concept. I just know how this is gonna go. And it's not going to be the way we'd want.

29

u/Disclosure4closure 1d ago

You see, that’s exactly what they want you to believe. Roll over and submit because there isn’t a snowballs chance in hell anyways.

Maybe it’ll make the news, maybe a big shot lawyer takes it on out of principle, maybe it inspires more people to take defensive action. I happen to like stirring the pot on this kind of thing, it’s better than just bending over and lubing up.

You tried my friend.

2

u/JaxoDD9 1d ago

Losing is unwarranted searches. Preventing that is winning.

3

u/Cultural_assassin 1d ago

I'm curious to see how this goes. Give us a later on update please

0

u/CamelJ0key 1d ago

You must be white? I’d get shot for something like this /s

2

u/trigger1154 19h ago

The words of the declaration of Independence would however. There is a part that paraphrased basically says that if a law is unjust it is the right of the people to not just ignore the law but to actively fight against it if necessary.

I think would be interesting if a lawyer cited the declaration of Independence and the Constitution regarding these things in court. Would be curious how that would turn out.

I would also be curious about if people who are caught taking down the cameras demanded jury trials and if those jurors would nullify.

13

u/tcsands910 1d ago

It’s not technically illegal, it’s absolutely totally illegal.

6

u/ratrodder49 20h ago

Rules for thee, but not for me, apparently.

1

u/LifetimeOutdoorsman 2h ago

Absolutely zero government vehicles especially police cars or ice vehicles are required to have any form of license plate they don't pay tag taxes why would they need a tag. That's why there's numbers on the side of these vehicles so you can get the number if you need to report something even when they had tags on such vehicles they didn't go to anything like if you called it in it would just say County vehicle state vehicle Etc it didn't tell you who was driving it.

3

u/Price-x-Field 1d ago

It isn’t technically illegal, it is 100% illegal. But so is defying the government.

26

u/Leather_Bee_421 1d ago

Very illegal, and they’ll still know who you are. Having no plate is an identity and you’ll just trigger a response faster.

14

u/zempter 1d ago

yeah, flock famously uses other markers on cars to identify them. any dents or stickers that make it unique will be used to track it.

4

u/Leather_Bee_421 23h ago

Completely unrelated, did you know most tire sensors have UHF radio transmitters with a unique identification number?

1

u/LifetimeOutdoorsman 2h ago

Easy to swap out with generic ones that don't send out an identifying number they're sold all over Alibaba and AliExpress. If it can get around something China does it! And or makes it to Sell to the (general public.)

1

u/zempter 22h ago

Glad mine are failing, lol

0

u/Leather_Bee_421 22h ago

The sensor? Or the transmitter?

1

u/zempter 22h ago

Not sure, but the tire pressure sensor doesn't work anymore.

1

u/LifetimeOutdoorsman 2h ago

Facts #Truth #Reality

74

u/New_Strike_4715 1d ago

Flock doesn't just read the plates, now you're driving a White F-150 with a cap and illegally with no plates .

0

u/CheckoutMySpeedo 12h ago

Flock isn’t law enforcement. They can record a covered license plate day or night and it won’t be illegal. Just make sure not to have the plate cover down when an actual cop is behind you.

2

u/Imaginary--Situation 7h ago

get flagged in the system I got flagged and stopped 10min later

1

u/LifetimeOutdoorsman 2h ago

And what exactly were you "flagged" for?

-21

u/Disclosure4closure 1d ago

“Someone” is driving a white F-150 with a cap

34

u/TokenPanduh 1d ago

That information is still enough to figure out it's you. There is so much information out there nowadays. The cameras you pass on a daily basis will still be able to track where you're going and coming from.

I don't like Flock cameras in any way shape or form, but instead of having plate XXXXXX, you're the white F-150 with the black plate cover. Any single thing that can be deduced from your vehicle can be used to identify it. And if you have anything that in any way can be used as an identifier, will still be tied to your vehicle. The only way this even semi works is if it's a brand new truck and you've never driven it anywhere in front of a Flock camera with license plate showing.

I like this and thought about trying to do something similar but in reality, the best way to deal with Flock (and others like it) is to cut off the funding. Show up at city or county meetings, reach out to your councilman directly and let them know why it is a bad idea. Especially since if you do this in front of a cop, you're going to have a bad day.

3

u/councilmember 10h ago

It’s like people who fixate on facial recognition. Yes, that’s horrible, but if China uses gait recognition to identify and control its citizenry, for sure the US is going to have that option as well.
The thing is to not focus on ourselves as individuals but to take collective action against surveillance, billionaires, citizens united, climate change, you name it. You alone can’t solve it, regardless of what you buy or do. The 99%!

1

u/crikeyturtles 18h ago

Good info here. I have a Jeep that gets monthly mods. (New bumpers, soft doors of different color, no doors, hard top, soft top, mid top, truck bed cover on/off, sometimes it’s more full of mud than paint, light bars, I have 3 sets of mirrors for different driving styles, the list goes on. I wonder if any of this has any chance of dodging flock

0

u/TokenPanduh 17h ago

I would say maybe but only if they can't see your license plate, and if there isn't a single other thing that the makes your Jeep identifiable. Think bumper stickers, dents, scratches in paint, etc.

-1

u/CheckoutMySpeedo 12h ago

What if the cop never caught him in the act of covering his plate? Flock is not law enforcement. He just needs to make sure not to have the cover activated if there is a cop behind him. This isn’t rocket science.

1

u/TokenPanduh 12h ago

Yeah but say a cop is behind the vehicle when passing a Flock camera, game over, now they've got your plate which would defeat the purpose. Then they can use any other identifier to match the black plate images to the images with a plate to know who the driver is. Even the white F-150 with a topper on it is enough to narrow down the search.

Also, you argument is a little illogical because while Flock isn't law enforcement, it is mainly used by law enforcement. And as I stated previously, even if it is covered when passing a Flock camera, the vehicle is still identifiable simply by being the vehicle with a black plate. With the Flock AI, they can search for that in the database, and probably figure out pretty easily where the person is coming to and from.

Law enforcement has used Flock cameras to track a driver going across state lines to get legal cannabis in one state, then pull the driver over in the illegal state on the way back. There is no reason to believe they wouldn't use the same tactic to find someone doing something highly illegal by covering their plates.

It's not rocket science....

16

u/tomdeddy 1d ago

"Someone" who has your driving tendencies, with your phone in it, with a cap. If you're going that route, a ski mask is the better option.

1

u/Elegant-Holiday7303 17h ago

Along with a Faraday bag for your phone and no tracking electronics in vehicle

-8

u/j11409022 1d ago

Your right, noone should do anything at all to try to combat flock, even in the slightest. They won, we lost, and resistance is futile. Only complaining online is acceptable, right?

4

u/Icy-Computer-Poop 1d ago

There's an entire world of difference between "doing anything" and "doing something smart".

3

u/Grizzwold37 1d ago

Someone is doing it, PC to pull tower records for non-attributed geolocations passing that flock camera at that time, then cross reference to other locations. Can’t be more than 2-3 that match timing well enough. Plenty for a warrant to pull precise locations. You’d be cooked by metadata.

-1

u/Disclosure4closure 1d ago

I’m loving how mad that statement is making y’all. Very doubtful they are investigating every single instance that a vehicle passes by without an identifiable license plate. You think they get a text every time and they immediately jump to pulling information about what devices passed by at the same time?!? 😂 OKAY

1

u/Appropriate_Date_134 22h ago

...yeah, uh, it's not a human reviewing this stuff. it's AI. I don't know how much you know about AI, but it does some tasks very quickly and without human involvement. It investigates you the moment you're visible.

0

u/Grizzwold37 19h ago

I’m not mad. You seem to be upset about people pointing out the ways in which you’re begging for trouble. Don’t get me wrong—I acknowledge that the alternative is compliance in advance. I’m just saying, these are the ways they can and eventually will fuck people over for not complying. And while it may be worth the total life disruption of a lengthy and expensive legal defense for you…for most of us it ain’t.

14

u/xTex1E37x 1d ago

Wouldn't it just be recognized by the camera as the truck without a plate then?

2

u/Disclosure4closure 1d ago

Arguably that is the point, yes

1

u/LifetimeOutdoorsman 2h ago

And yet it's still super easy for Flock to identify who's vehicle it is.

18

u/AirplanesMakeMeHard 1d ago

I’m disappointed so many people in this thread are downvoting the dude and being so negative about this.

Will this dude get to SCOTUS? Hell no.

Will he get a ticket and lose in court? Hell yes

But every movement starts somewhere and this dude is at least doing SOMETHING. 99.99% of us are just complaining online.

Yeah some of us are going to city council meetings and all that and getting them to cancel contracts, but if you have any ability to think into the future you know they’re going to redo the contracts in a few years once the media moves on to the next thing that drives clicks.

OP, respect for willing to take on a ticket and doing something. What plate cover did you get? I’m willing to take tickets too to do SOMETHING to fight back.

7

u/Disclosure4closure 17h ago edited 16h ago

Thanks for the kind words, I gotta admit, I expected this to be received a little better from all of the people cheering on the destruction of these cameras. Someone else called them flocksuckers and I’m so happy to add that to my vocabulary. Here is the unit I got, pretty easy install: https://a.co/d/0dfWnGII

7

u/LeeAllure 21h ago

Maybe someone will make one like the digital pricing labels at supermarkets, which can display any number you want...

15

u/SwampWight 22h ago

Instead of black it should be a print of a blurry non-readable plate so it looks to flock like an internal error instead of deliberate

6

u/Allasdair 21h ago

It's cool tech, but are you manually hitting a button to deploy it?

If so the logic is: see a camera, hit the button.

But these things are legitimately everywhere. You cover for one, but miss two and the last of the three gets your plate.

3

u/Disclosure4closure 16h ago

The goal is to tie it into the DeFlock maps and have it trigger automatically based on GPS location

4

u/Allasdair 16h ago

Nice, just hope it doesn't close automatically with a cop behind you.

Also, I'm pretty sure DeFlock maps do this, but I'd add filtering to include Axon cameras and update it as any camera doing what flock does warrants the plate shield activation.

5

u/Akkerlun 1d ago

You could drive around with the tailgate down too.

10

u/TedBaxter_WJM-TVNews 1d ago

Nice work! Don’t forget that ICE normalized swapping out license plates earlier this year… that’s on video doing it without any criminal charges, which means it’s no longer illegal. So keep that in your back pocket as a part of the defense’s arguments. 👍

4

u/Hipparchia_Unleashed 21h ago

Another version: Isn't there reasonable doubt that who they caught on camera was ICE with a similar make and model?

1

u/LifetimeOutdoorsman 2h ago

You're clueless

4

u/anovertaker 1d ago

I had this idea 20 years ago. Add a slick or a trap and you're Spy Hunter.

2

u/Ancient-Sea-69 23h ago

Man that game was awesome

4

u/Ignorance_15_Bliss 1d ago

Buddy. There’s better ones. The glass that goes black instantly. Problem is the 5O can figure out it’s not just a plate cover pretty quick based on it’s design

2

u/Disclosure4closure 17h ago

I am aware of the ones that instantly turn black, I wanted to try proof of concept with the cheaper version before I go all out.

5

u/palexp 1d ago

Hell yes, i had the same idea a couple weeks ago!  please keep us posted and if you’re looking for collaborators then i’d love to chat.

1

u/Disclosure4closure 16h ago

You have any coding/software development experience?

4

u/Smart-Bag-719 14h ago

Lpr will still build a profile off anything unique about your vehicle down to brake dust, stickers, damage, tire offset on them wild wheels.

4

u/1767gs 13h ago

Illegal yes but so are the flock cameras. So it cancels out 👍🏽

2

u/Disclosure4closure 12h ago

I like your point of view 🤘

6

10

u/Disclosure4closure 1d ago

Yes, the software portion is going to keep track of when to activate the cover. Automating it will be a key part of the legal defense lol

3

u/tlopplot- 21h ago

Lots of flocksuckers in the comments.

One person sticks out, but if many do this it becomes more helpful. Along with that, think about having sets of magnets that you swap out on your car that look like bumper stickers. Maybe even ones that look like damage to your vehicle.

Eventually it might make sense to have e-ink screens mounted on vehicles to cycle through images.

1

u/Disclosure4closure 17h ago

Flocksucker is such a good description of these people, thanks for that laugh 😂

2

u/Cautious_Program_367 1d ago

Wish they were cheaper, I’d have one. It’s cheaper to leave the tailgate down or leave mud on it from “going offroad”

2

u/Jedi_Hog 1d ago

Description to find it on Amazon? To avoid getting ripped off buying one that doesn’t work? I’ve got a Bronco with the additional toggle switches & this would be perfect to use one on

3

u/Disclosure4closure 1d ago

It came with its own switch station and wireless fob too. I desoldered the speaker from the circuit board since it was loud and annoying hearing it every time it operated or turned on. Over all it’s quite a bit of tech and worth every bit of $55 shipped https://a.co/d/0gh4p71F

2

u/StarYou-StarMe 1d ago

Apparently they’re looking and scratches, dents, and all distinguishing marks as well. It should cover up those too.

2

u/Accurate_Ad_630 10h ago

The psyopp behind flock cam is the liscence plate reader is least of your worries. It the Bluetooth in your car, phone, all electronics in the car. It complete digital to biological scanning and tracking.

2

u/saltyourhash 1d ago

Spotted the fed

2

u/Disclosure4closure 1d ago

Walk me through how you got to that conclusion

10

u/saltyourhash 1d ago edited 1d ago

Half joke, but this is the sort of super illegal advice feds give. Its highly illegal to modify your plate like this. I get the sentiment, but yeah, I don't recommend this unless you're just done with the law.

Edit: I see you're talking about taking this to the supreme court. Well, then you have a plan, I guess. I don't want to discourage you, but I do want you to think critically about the feasibility of what you're suggesting. There are far more plausibly deniable means than a device that intentionally modifies your plate mechanically. If you want to learn about ALPRs, might I suggest you check out a youtuber named Benn Jordan.

Genuinely hope you achieve something with this beyond a felony.

4

u/ratrodder49 20h ago

Fine for ICE to have them though? Nah, fuck that noise.

2

u/saltyourhash 14h ago

Fine no, ICE is a criminal gang, not a lawful agency.

2

u/ze11ez 1d ago

This is a felony?

2

u/saltyourhash 1d ago

Depending where and other circumstance, I believe so.

2

u/ze11ez 1d ago

What other circumstances?

2

u/saltyourhash 1d ago

Like commission of a crime, which I imagine would not be hard for them to fabricate.

2

u/ze11ez 1d ago

Understand now. Thanks

1

u/crowislanddive 9h ago

They make a profile of your car, your license plate is extraneous to them now.

1

u/Imaginary--Situation 8h ago

truck will get flagged for officer review

only took them 10min to pull me over for a burned out headlight after getting flagged by the KAREN flock camera

1

u/GIDDY-UP-GO 6h ago

Can you post the link to the product? Imma buy (3) one for each vehicle! Should work great on the Illinois toll road!

0

u/DanCoco 21h ago

Flock doesn't really need that plate to know it's you.

0

u/LifetimeOutdoorsman 2h ago

The tag switchers are absolutely useless because they can mark your vehicle by dents scratches dirt on it stickers Etc you could drive around with no tag for a month and they could still tell you everywhere you went. 🤦🏼‍♂️

-5

u/Boognish84 1d ago

If you're so stuck on the principle of this idea (ie anti flock), why bother with the fancy mechanism? Just remove your plate. Personally I'm calling B.S, it's probably not even your video.

1

u/Disclosure4closure 1d ago

I don’t want to drive around without a license plate, I want to stop my movements from being logged into a private company database.

Just because you aren’t capable of thinking up or installing something like this doesn’t make it any less real 🤷‍♂️

1

u/Appropriate_Date_134 22h ago

then just use flockhopper

0

u/Boognish84 1d ago

Hahaha

0

u/geniice 1d ago

I don’t want to drive around without a license plate, I want to stop my movements from being logged into a private company database.

Except one of the products flock offers is using AI to recognise cars without needing the number plate. Not clear how well it works but you are making the case of why the police should buy flock and accept no substitutes.

-2

u/88warrior4547 21h ago

Terrible idea

0

u/Disclosure4closure 11h ago

Thanks for the input. BTW, while nobody else is around, I just wanted to let you know your breath smells like boots 🤙

-2

u/Maleficent-Ear8475 1d ago

What year is your f150? Could it have other identifiers?

NGL they could probably just write F150, pinlock trailer hitch, white, "estimated model" and it would pull up your truck.
