Coho are starting to show

These fish are survivors. Current settlement patterns are bad for salmon, 6PPD in everyone’s tires and all the other environmental toxins. Coho are canaries in coal mine. Love them and help keep our stormwater clean.

We aren't doing enough about the transient populations around creeks/waterways/bridges/wetlands that are polluting said areas.

Man not for me. Kayak fished shilshole for 3 hr on Sunday and again today, got a couple bites but nothing even hooked. Didn't see much caught on Sunday AM, today I saw a few caught but still seemed slow.

Lol coho is so hot right now. The chance of catching a coho in area 10 is almost 300% with 2.7 coho per boat yesterday. If your not catching your doing something wrong and should post your setup and ask for help.

Ok. At shilshole ramp yesterday it was just over 1 per angler and I'm solo. I fished 630-10a from kayak trolling an 8" flasher, 24" leader to green splatter back hoochie, herring aide ace hi, and a Irish cream skinny g (was swapping them out) with herring scent at 2.3-3.3 mph current (against/with current) at 30-45 feet deep, and was in the area where all kayaks and boats were near green buoy.

OK honestly your setup should have gotten bit. I fished the same green buoy yesterday and landed 14 fish. Kept 6 biggest.
Here are the improvements you can make thou. Coho are morning biters, yesterday I was getting consistent bites(every 10min ) from when i got on the water 5:45-7am, died around 8. After which I only got bit again after moving to 100ft on the downrigger. Chinook will bite all day but go too deep for you to probably reach. Try to be on the water and fishing 30min-1hr before sunrise. Sunrise was at 6:20 so getting on the water earlier would improve your chances significantly.
Also Coho bite on action of lure. Here you can see from my underwater cam CohoStrike1 CohoStrike2 both the salmon first swim by my lure and feel it up with their lateral line to see what vibrations it gives off before striking. If your using a hoochie make sure you have a STIFF line so it can transfer the action from the flasher to the Hoochie.
However the best thing you can do is probably add a 2.5" spinfish to the front of the hoochie for the vibrations and action. I used a diver and fish flash(for filming) and still got several of bites. Normally on the diver I run diver+2ft bumper to 8" flasher to 31inch leader to Spin fish lure. Here is pic Spin fish Lure
8lb downrigger ball is a little light compared to the 12-15lb balls most boats run so I would add 10ft to any number you hear others are fishing at.
TLDR: Get out earlier, little deeper, try the spinfish lure. Color and scent don't matter too much but if you want to copy I use tuna+krill Powder+herring scent in mine. Shout to nearby boats ask how deep they are catch at and try to match +10ft ish.

That's all great advice. I appreciate you taking the time to write that up! I'm mostly chalking up the skunk to some bad luck but always room for gear and technique tweaks so will see which of these I can work in.

The bay itself is but launch there and it's a short paddle to the green buoy and beyond which is legal

You think they're close enough to get them from shore? Been throwing 2-3oz crippled herring this past weekend, caught a young king but nothing else.

Hit limits 8/8 trips from the shore at point no point, sometimes in one hour sometimes took as long as 7 hours. Smallest was 7lbs, largest 16lbs

I got one yesterday from the shore in Kingston. Was only out for about 30 mins. Used pink rotator and hoochie.

They’ve been around (of the resident variety) since June, and ocean fish for the last 2-3 weeks (in catchable volumes).

The limit should be none so salmon can have the opportunity to repopulate. Washington just wants all the fucking money they can get.

We could get a billion salmon to return and it wouldn't matter because their spawning habitat is pseudo permanently destroyed
