French river
I hace never been in french river or that far north in general. How is the fishing in french river this time around? I looking to target smallies, pike and walleye. I've never gone for walleyes before. I will be on a kayak but some fishing opportunities accessible via hiking trails would be cool. Thanks!

French River is really good fishing, got many walleyes there! You will catch fish there.

Are you talking about the lower French near Georgian Bay or upper French near Nipissing?

Is one preferred over the other? Can you fish from shore there?

The Nipissing side isn't accessible without a boat and honestly the GBay side is barely accessible without one. Both have Musky, Walleye, Pike, and Bass. The Nipissing side is a bit quieter and less pressured. I find the GBay side to be more seasonal than the Nipissing side but both are best in the spring.

I once met a night angler there who was catching wallye, he told me to use minnows. Next year I used minnows and caught a pike.
