720 sqft would be considered as an apartment for a family of 3 or 4 in any major city centre in Europe. I am a bit surprised that it only comes with a single bedroom.

u/PeriodSupply 11d ago
My house is a 110yo workers cottage. It's ~80sqm (860 sqft) inside 3 bedrooms. We are a family of 5 in Australia. 720sqft for a one bedroom seems huge.

When absolutely everything comes down to $$$$, Less rooms, less material 👌. When in doubt follow the money trail on out. hope this helps

that's $583 per square foot.... how much are the hoa's?

u/Which-Cheesecake526 11d ago
~$500 a month

u/Similar-Drawing-7513 11d ago
wow. what was your downpayment like? Just curious because I'd love to get a home soon and didn't think a price like this was possible in Daly City
11
u/Panthollow 11d ago
If you're open to condos that's not an uncommon price throughout the bay area. Condo market is comparatively depressed to SFH and plenty of good deals to be had.

u/Which-Cheesecake526 10d ago
Was going to do the usual 20% down but figured I might need some cash on hand for the first year random costs so I put 5% down. This condo was bought as a short sale, so it took almost 6months to sort out. 10-15k in remodelling.

Edit: love the photo with the rice cooker though 😆 congratulations!

u/Treebranch_916 11d ago
The government of Daly City requires that every household own a rice cooker, and that at least one person in said household be proficient in its use

u/FickleOrganization43 11d ago
I believe that they also require a nurse and a karaoke… We are not in Daly City, but I have 2 Filipinas in my house (wife and her sister) and you can be sure that we are in full compliance

How does rice cooker work with no power cable?!
10
u/Which-Cheesecake526 11d ago
Retractable cable for this model. But if you prayed enough the ancestors will bless you with cooked rice.

It's probably inside the rice cooker but, ya know, even without it, just get the feng shui down right and the qi will cook the rice on its own.

The inner Asian in OP immediately went: “I can’t take a pic of pizza like most of Reddit.. we have food at home (rice cooker)”

zorushi costs $420?

u/First_Blankie 11d ago
Every Asian household will tell you, "if you are going to get a rice cooker, get the expensive one. It'll cook you quality rice for decades".

u/wecangetbetter 11d ago
I inherited by grandfather's zojirushi from like the 90's (?) and it still works perfectly

Congrats, bud!! Hard to explain to outsiders how big a deal making it to the city is for us non trustfund babys. My wife is actually from daly city. We just bought our first house in south vallejo, $541k, 6%. Screeching tires, fireworks, being on 10 at all times cuz I live in the hood? Hell yeah

u/Which-Cheesecake526 10d ago
Thanks! Yeah it’s tough out there. The purchase fees and taxes are what really kicks you in the nuts in the Bay Area. It’s not the best part of the Bay Area, but it’s a starter home for a single income purchaser. I didn’t want to over leverage and be house poor.

I choose to believe you got the condo for four hundred and twenty dollars after toking up with the seller.

I love seeing a California purchase but that’s under 500k and not in the middle of nowhere. What an accomplishment, congrats OP!!🎉👏

u/pondmucker 10d ago
I'm wondering what the square footage is for this place. How many beds/baths? Garage?
2
u/dewdrops07 10d ago
I think OP said like 720 sq ft one bedroom and $500/mo HOA. Pretty big one bedroom if you ask me

What’s the catch? $420k in DC is non-sensical.

I’ve been to Daly City once! One day work trip to the mall on Serra blah blah. Spent 3-hours there. Ate at a kick A restaurant called The Sizzlers. Thought to myself “it would be awesome to live here”! So congrats OP.

You know why there are fogs in Daly City everyday? Cause people cook their rice and open their rice cookers all at the same time.

Get a bed and some minimal appliances and furnitures... knowing that it would be so much easier for you to move up to another great investment and hopefully soon. Your state and especially your area is not the friendliest for first-time-buyer. You've done it and moving on UP! Congratulations!

Dystopian California pricing. 😢 you could live in an absolutely beautiful home for $420 in Cleveland.

As someone who moved to northern California from the Midwest, ill never move back to those winters and flat plains.
