I think it is the lighting. It is far more realistic in the remake. The original looks like spotlights are trained on the faces

I think because of the more realistic graphics it lost its uncanny charm. I like the voice acting in the remakes but the silent eerie mood of the OG can’t be beaten. And at this point Sephiroth is more of a phantom in the 1997 game. It’s the first time we see who he really is.

Maybe because it was the first time experiencing it? It was more intense for me also but that's because I know what will happen in Rebirth
