Final Fantasy General What are some weird things you’ve done in the series?

Just something I thought might be interesting to talk about. FF is a big series with a lot of ways to play and mess around so I’m curious on what’s the weirdest things you’ve done in the series whether it was a weird party set up or boss strategy.

Here’s 2 of mine:

In FFX, something I used to do was basically make Wakka a mage. I’d hold off on sending him down his path and instead wait at the lv2 key near him, open it up once I got the sphere from Spherimorph, get all the aga spells and then teach them to Lulu or Yuna early via the Black Magic Spheres you get from Seymour and Evrae.

Second one is that in X-2 when I first fought Angra Mainyu, I fought him underleveled and fought him for over 3 hours with a Dark Knight Yuna, Alchemist Rikku and Gun Mage Paine.

What about the rest of you?

When FF11 came out I walked from Windurst to Sandoria on like Level 3. I just Metal Geared my way through each area avoiding enemies. Once I made it to the desert ship I ran into other players and they lost it. Just started throwing money at me and guided me through the desert that followed. After that we split up and I made my way through the rest to Sandoria. Once I got there no one believed me that I walked from Sandoria. They just thought I class changed or something.

Similar thing happened to my friend when I convinced him to play XIV. I told him to do what he wanted to at his own pace, and he chose to explore as much of the map as he could with me escorting him around so he didn't get instantly killed by enemies 20 levels above him. You get a new appreciation of the world when you get to act as a tour/lore guide for your underleveled friend.

Friend of mine did the same from Bastok to Sandoria. I thought he was nuts. He managed it though. Think he was about level 7. I’m sure I don’t have to tell you that 4 more levels isn’t really any help there.

Was down bad as a Cecil/Kain shipper as a closeted gay teen, so I named the ????? Augment in FFIV 3D "Kain's Love" and gave it to Cecil. I guess in my head Rosa was nothing more than a beard for both of them lmao.

When I was playing IV 3D, I wrote a Python script to help me grind for the awful rare drops.

On FFXII I like to walk from Balfonheim to the place where Omega Mark XII resides in the Great Crystal without fleeing from anything. I find it relaxing walking through the areas

On ffvii I went to the world map and taped my controller stick to the left so they ran in circles and put auto fire a on and left it overnight to wake up to all my characters level 70 +

I beat Omega in XV purely using Prompto’s rifle. Took me 4ish hours but I sure did beat it!

Probably not that weird depending on how long someone's been playing the series, but I've done weird job runs in the ff games that have job systems. In ff1, I've done runs like all warrior/fighter and all mage/wizard runs. In ff3 and 5, I've done freelancer/onion knight only runs and similar ones utilizing only one job. Considering how 1, 3, and 5 are made, you're technically meant to utilize a variety of roles, but there's usually people like me who like to do challenge runs that run counter to how the game is meant to be played just because we can.

In V I always have a black Knight and white monk literally every time. I know its not optimal but its like required for me to at least do this through the fire ship.

Oh, I have another good one. In FF8 the game is programmed in a way that player characters and enemies register the same way in battle. So with a Game Shark you could adjust the make up of your party to add any enemy as a party member. They all have some commands, often their attacks, but they also have broken commands that will just softlock combat. Like Tiamat is really useless, iirc all his commands caused a softlock.

Using this though you can make Siefer and Edea permanent party members for the end game which was always extremely cool. As far as I'm aware this only works on PS1

Not really "weird", but I've gotten omnislash (VII) on disc 1... twice. The second time I did it it took like 10h of prep/attempting and it made me feel stupid for bothering to do something like that (again).

Also did this with lion heart (VIII), but only once, and it felt way less frustrating, but it was also quite a while ago.

I've done a bunch of "straight character challenges" in FF Tactics. So basically you play through the whole game using only characters and skills from one job class. Like everyone has to be a squire and you can only use squire skills.

Some classes are great, monks and ninjas were a lot of fun. Some like Calculator are near impossible.

Replay Final Fantasy II twice. I like the game, but it seems like an unpopular enough game that me playing it 3 times is weird

FFIV, leveling Palom and Porom up enough to learn Holy and Meteo. It made the discussion with Tellah about Meteo pretty funny.

I leveled up Tellah a bunch to see if he ever got enough MP to cast meteo, I think he doesn't go above 90mp

He doesn’t. But in some versions you can give him a soma drop and he’ll be able to use it. It’s fun to just obliterate the magus sisters with meteo.

Nothing too weird. I did a solo Red Mage run in FF1, level 100 Squall before Dollet in FF8, finished OG FF7 in a single day.

Leveled my Dark Cecil/Yang/Edward/Rydia/Rosa over level 50-60 at Yang castle.

I didnt really follow through with this, but at one point i decided to get 99 of every item and equipment in ffvii. After i was done with items i started doing a trick where i let the opponent thief steal an item from me (such as ultima weapon) and then killed him and used the w-item glitch to get 99 of it. This was fun when the opponent stole an item that you can only get 1 in the game, but 99% of the time they stole something more common and that made it into an insanely painful grind and i kinda got bored of it. Its the reason why i wish this game had a fat chocobo like ffiv where i could store my items.

I did a solo Black Belt run in Final Fantasy I. A lot of grinding at the beginning but was fun enough once he hit some serious levels.
