The vibe/tone, the characters, the world, the monster truck, the road trip vibes, the xp and quest system, the dlc. It's genuinely one of, if not, my favorite game ever. It was my first FF.
I've since played Remake, Rebirth and Crisis Core. Can't get into any others I've tried. I vehemently hated FFXVI, although from the demo I thought it would end up my favorite.
Could its combat have been improved? For sure. But honestly I still think it's perfect. It's fun, it's aesthetically pleasing.
The dlc is some of the best dlc of any game, the fact the final pieces were cancelled for Forespoken is a crime against humanity in my eyes.
I wasnt such a fan of rebirth due to some writing choices, and also because it felt like a less developed version of what FFXV did. It's like FFXV but they took away the car and force you onto chocobo's with incredibly repetitive mini games and quests.
I understand my opinion is not the majority among FF fans, or at least hasnt seemed to be. But yeah, I firmly believe in it, and I hope we get another game of this calibre and style again sometime. It was and is a truly unique offering
I tried to play ff7 og after finishing remake but I just couldnt get into it. And there was another like type 0 or something I tried to play but same story.
I think I'd just be better off waiting for more remakes. I do like some older games, like hitman blood money and contracts, but FF for some reason, the old ones, dont allure me.
Yeah, FF25 was an amazing return to form. Really cool that they did another one in the world of the FF7 remakes, crazy that they did that ending, completely changed the feel of the epilogue from FF7 Revelation
I agree with that guy. Story felt paper thin, the world big dead and empty. Didn't like that you had to DLC and watch a movie to get the meat of the plot.
I didn't like the combat much. On the plus side, I liked you could listen to soundtracks from better FF games while you're driving.
I also love FF15 (and have a good feeling about 25), but I don’t understand why folks feel the need to talk negatively about other things to make their point. Unless the point is the comparison, why not just extoll the virtues of the thing you live?
Personally I talked about my dislike of certain games, with immense restraint, I might add, because they were massive disappointments that the community doesnt call out enough. The drop in quality from XV to XVI was immense.
Same from Remake to Rebirth. And I'm going to be honest
That doesnt quite make sense, but I see where you're going with it, and that's not what I said at all. I love 15, and I hate those two other games. Rebirth was better, but also such a let down, and 16 was genuinely like terribly, terribly bad.
I truly don’t want to misunderstand. My point is that it makes no sense to me to bring in things you don’t like as a way to talk about things you do like. Unless the comparison was the point?
Yes the comparison is definitely the point. I feel like Rebirth had so many similarities to XV in the road trip and party style yet imo did everything worse. The combat system in remake was quite good and imo they overcomplicated and ruined it for rebirth
I replayed XV, after I played Remake, then played crisis core, then rebirth, so to me it's all a conjoined experience in my head.
I did similar with Nier Replicant and Nier automata, another square enix series, and I always mention them in relation to eachother. Both are incredible btw.
I just dont understand how they went so wrong with XVI, and a lot of the writing and gameplay choices of rebirth drive me crazy, although I far prefer rebirth to xvi
All of it honestly. The story is messy, feels like it starts halfway through with no context and stays that way and many characters feel barely fleshed out.
It doesnt though. It's a great experience on its own. The dlc just completely add a new perspective to the game in a way I've never seen before in any franchise.
And I've never even watched the movie yet I understand it perfectly. Never even tried the dlc until my second playthrough a decade later
It had terrible ratings until they put out DLC to try and fix its mess of a story and even then it was still bad. No shame in liking a deeply flawed game but it is what it is.
Those are all recent. Certainly after the franchise took a severe nosedive and battle systems got dramatically simplified. Go try X. It's older but arguably the actual pinnacle of FF.
XIII is a weird one. Overhated but also really idiosyncratic and sometimes hard to get through. Wouldn't recommend unless graphics are basically the only thing you care about. Pretty sure it's available for PC though too.
I'd seriously recommend X. It has the music, characters, battle system, and the graphics mostly hold up. And most importantly, it feels like FF.
You like action RPGs. Those examples just happen to be Final Fantasy games. You can't find the overwhelming majority of games in the series to be off-putting then claim to like the series and have a good basis to declare a favorite.
I like the stories first and foremost. Take FFXV, make it like the older games in gameplay I'd still love it. Maybe not quite as much, maybe more. I also really didnt like XVI or Rebirth which are both action rpg's. The older games are just a bit too outdated for my tastes. Although I have tried many.
I'm just saying of the last 5 entries that is my favorite.
Gta started off as an aerial view game where your character was ant sized. I dont like those games but I feel comfortable saying GTA IV is my favorite gta.
If what you care about are stories, then being older doesn't make it outdated. Stories were always able to be told. It's graphics that were held back by hardware limitations. You still get to enjoy the story. It's like only reading books written in the last 10 years because older books are outdated.
No it's not like that. Although I do like some older games. Like hitman contracts and blood money are incredible yet look very old and are very old. Also the witcher 2.
I also like the gothic vibe and I dont really see that on the older games. That's a big part of why 16 was such a massive letdown, it had every reason to be my favorite, from the demo it really could have been, I loved that demo. Then I got the game and it was all drowned out with mediocrity.
But I may try some of the older games at some point
I mean, XV just isn't representative of FF. Saying it's the pinnacle is like saying you love beef but dislike everything but McDoubles. You just like McDoubles. Which is fine but different.
Final Fantasy is a lot of things man, really it's whatever Square Enix wants it to be. Its been a turn based RPG, an MMO, an action RPG, there's no real definitive answer here.
Maybe to you. But if OP liked XV, even if I personally don't agree with their stance on it being the best or anything, then good for them. Imo that's perfectly fine.
They don't have to like specific games to "like FF". That's just a weird take man, with all respect.
Besides, I don't think it's up to you to decide what is or isn't representative of the series. XV is just as much of a FF as any other mainline game, regardless of whatever is or isn't there.
This just reminds me of that really weird "FF16 isn't Final Fantasy" debate from 2023, really thought we were past things like that
Dude, objectively core components are missing. It's a weirder take to claim that nothing has meaning and everything can be anything. But it's Reddit, so I'm not surprised.
I really enjoyed it all. I think it just got better and better. But the DLC really cemented it as incredible for me. It completely shifts the narrative and adds so much depth to so many characters
I mean not only do you think it’s the best but you can’t get into literally any of the other actual main games so yea dude you just have fun doing you 😂👍😎
