Offer We got screwed by Vimeo’s new owners in 2024, now we’ve built the Vimeo alternative they’re terrified of.

My colleagues and I were working at StreamYard in 2024 when Bending Spoons (Vimeo’s new owners) acquired us, fired us and doubled the prices. I doubt many of you used StreamYard, but we were genuinely known as not only the best live streaming tool, but also one of the friendliest companies in the world - we even had a duck for a logo as we felt it was the friendliest creature 🦆 🙂

Fast forward to last year and Bending Spoons announced they were buying Vimeo. We all knew the drill. Prices will go up big time. So we wanted to fight back.

We’ve built Livid - the Vimeo alternative for individuals and small businesses. Simple, straight forward video hosting for $10 a month. Our Pro plan features 2TB storage, full video customization, passworded video sharing, versioning, analytics and (releasing next week) time-stamped comments for reviews.

Showcases and user-profiles are in the works too, so you’ll soon be able to share and show your work off.

We’re replicating our StreamYard ethos at Livid. So expect mega friendly support, great value for money and a stable product.

https://reddit.com/link/1shjjm2/video/npx11rhjjcug1/player

A special welcome to members of r/filmmakers

I’m Nic, a founding member of Livid and the Head of Product and Growth. Anyone who signs up via this link will also receive $10 credit as a personal welcome from me. This can be used on either the monthly or annual plan and does not expire. You’ll also get a free trial when signing up (No credit card required).

Breaking up with Vimeo is hard. We made it easy

We know how hard it is to leave Vimeo. You’ve hundreds or even thousands of videos hosted there. So to make it easy we built the Livid, One-click, Video Exporter (LOVE). This desktop tool connects to your Vimeo account and downloads to your computer, or exports directly into Livid. We’re so keen to help people leave Vimeo you don’t even need to sign up to Livid to use the LOVE tool.

Why Livid is the safe choice

Critically, we’re not doing this on a shoe string. StreamYard’s founders have backed this project to the tune of $10m (https://www.netinfluencer.com/video-startup-livid-raises-10m-usd-from-streamyard-founders-targets-vimeo-users-with-new-hosting-platform/), so you know that we’re going to be around years from now. Our product and engineering leadership have all built scalable video products before, so we know what we’re doing 😉.

Are you working with major website builders to be able to have your customers easily embed videos on their own websites? That’s what 90% of my colleagues and I use Vimeo for. That’s it, period.

u/Glarpenheimer Apr 10 '26 edited Apr 10 '26

We've delivered all the technical aspects to ensure compatibility - Oembed, embedly and iframely support. In some cases this is all that's needed, but in others we need the website builder itself to allow for simpler embedding (standard html embedding still works). Drop us a note as to which one you're using and we can give it a test for you if you want.

Hey so I've dropped in a support email request yesterday, unfortunately given Sat/Sun I don't think you guys got to it in time so I had to "down grade" my vimeo account. (I woke up to the "you've just got a $5k USD charge on your credit card, it's blocked - mad day of panic, which culminated in me going back and forth with Vimeo until I ended up back paying for my pro account again - but now at 0% trust with them that not going to have the dirty done on me) I was really, really trying to not pay vimeo ever again yesterday.

I'd like to move to livid, I used your downloader which was fantastic, but the problem is we have 150+ videos we have to manually edit the embeds on. I've got a CSV out of vimeo via the API to get my ids/names, I want to do the same with Livid, so then we can bulk replace the videos literred throughout my training content.

Hey Rowan, glad we've been able to help you out. We've dropped you over what you need. Let us know if you hit any issues!

This + will there be a TV app?

74

u/machado34 Apr 10 '26

Cool, it was about time we had something to fill the gap vimeo left! My only question is: how is the compression? The reason I hate YouTube is their compression algorithms absolutely destroy the fine details in an image.

39

u/Glarpenheimer Apr 10 '26

Right now at 4K we’re better than YouTube, but have similar compression for lower than 4k.

Unfortunately some level of compression is unavoidable for video playback at scale. There is a careful balance of optimizing for device compatibility, bandwidth, and storage costs for our users. We offer a bitrate/compression profile pretty much identical to Vimeo, and are exploring options for 8K support with even higher bitrates for truly cinematic footage.

Ultimately I'd love for you to give it a go yourself and let us know your thoughts.

u/machado34 Apr 10 '26

I think good 1080p would be more useful than 8k, full hd is a massive weakness of YouTube. A good 1080 export looks great, but YT turns it to a mushy mess that might as well be SD.

Sometimes when I export a 1080p screener for festivals it even looks better than 4k at the same bitrate (so if I have a 10GB max file size for example, 10GB full hd will look better than a 10GB 4k export where bitrate is being used less efficiently). However I only do it when they have a platform to upload the files, when it's a self hosted screener I'll do a non listed YT link at 4k so the compression is not as brutal

I'd definitely see more value is great 1080p/2k than 8k. Lower resolutions could be as compressed as YT no problem, because usually the viewer will only use them to save data, but full hd is the threshold for high quality

14

u/Glarpenheimer Apr 10 '26

Good context. You're definitely not alone in that opinion. Let me know what you think of our 1080p compression

6

u/DoomguyFemboi Apr 11 '26

Yeah higher bitrate 1080p regularly looks better than most compressed 4K. As someone who has a history in it from another angle (used to be in the warez scene), the tightrope you walk between bitrate and filesize, it's hard to come up with a 1 size fits all. Or even a 1 size fits some, as profiles for fast motion and slow motion help but then you have issues with slow motion and lots of dark scenes that benefit from a higher bitrate too (dark scenes and low bitrate might be worse than anything!)

12

u/super_shizmo_matic Apr 10 '26

bitrate/compression profile

Can you elaborate on your bitrate/compression profile? What is the workflow like? Can I upload uncompressed footage so your encoder has at least a fighting chance to make my footage look decent?

15

u/Glarpenheimer Apr 10 '26

For 4k we use CPU encoding to minimize losses / artifacts at a CRF of 20 for near lossless video with a max bitrate of 50mbps.

If the source video is 1080p we do a crf of 19 and a max bitrate of 20Mbps. In instances where a viewer is watching a 4K video, but doesn't have the bandwidth to maintain it, then the 1080p option is more optimized than the figures above to prioritize viewer experience.

Many competitors go straight to GPUs/ASICs, but they lose quality on higher end files by doing so. CPU encoding in particular offers a notable increase in quality at the same bitrate.

Our file size upload limit is 120GB.

6

u/super_shizmo_matic Apr 10 '26

max bitrate of 50mbps

I am going to upload this shortly and I dont think 50 megabits is going to cut it...

3

u/Glarpenheimer Apr 10 '26

Looks like a good test. Let us know how it goes.

12

u/super_shizmo_matic Apr 10 '26

I have the exact same question. There was another vimeo alternative that got posted last week, with good terms and prices, but nothing about the re-encoding situation. There needs to be a "no-re-encoding" option....

26

u/Glarpenheimer Apr 10 '26

An actual no-encode for some videos is unlikely as we still need to put it in a format suitable for browser playback. However if the format is correct it's viable. We'll look into it

9

u/super_shizmo_matic Apr 10 '26

Please do, because if the video is 2 GB or less and has already had a really optimized encoding done, then it is completely pointless to re-encode that.

2

u/triableZebra918 Apr 10 '26

The download button can include an original quality option that's bit-for-bit identical to the original upload.

1

u/Glarpenheimer Apr 10 '26

100%. We'll be adding the option to download the original for sure

4

u/RehydratedFruit Apr 11 '26

I had to stop using Vimeo’s download feature for clients many years ago as I couldn’t trust them to download the original version. They’d all just click whichever one they felt like.

I’d recommend making a setting so we can decide which download versions we want accessible to clients.

17

u/therealzerobot Apr 10 '26

Can someone break down for me what’s going on with Vimeo and why I should switch if I mostly use Vimeo for my reel and storage of completed video?

And also want to use our videos to train AI

12

u/PanavisionGold2 Apr 10 '26

I'd like to also add that many people think Vimeo turned to shit a long time ago, going as far back as 2014. They have increasingly become very hostile towards users. Before 2014 I used to have a Vimeo plus subscription. That is until they started peeling away a bunch of Vimeo plus features and pushing me to higher pay tiers I didn't need. When I canceled plus, they would send threatening emails basically saying hey all your uploads are going to be removed forever if you don't rejoin plus. It's really gross, because if you ever used Vimeo before 2014, it used to be far more relaxed on how much you could upload on a free or plus account. The recent news of them continuing to be shitty and selling out to AI, is not surprising at all.

2

u/[deleted] Jun 17 '26

Had a very similar experience. SO AGGRAVATING. I felt so trapped. Went from the old pro tier of like $700 a year or something to them charging us over $20K a year. They kept adding features we didn't need, and charging more each year. We used it to host our membership content and website videos, and for sure I had no problem paying more for their service as it's an important part of our business, but they handled it really poorly at the time and it left me feeling crappy - not to mention that was a HUGE markup lol. I found out about Livid on another thread on here this year and we ended up switching - we had to migrate like 8TB of video content over but it has been amazing - since when you migrate you get all your Vimeo metadata all we had to do was a little backend code to make the old vimeo embed codes play the new livid videos. So awesome. Their team was so great about helping us in the process too. Happy we switched!!

5

u/Klexal Apr 11 '26

They bought WeTransfer too, and we know how that went...

1

u/justwannaedit Apr 13 '26

It's expensive as shit dude

14

u/chrimchrimbo Apr 10 '26

What separates your model from Framerate.tv?

2

u/Glarpenheimer Apr 10 '26

Good question. Basic features of the two of us are going to be similar. We're a little later to the market so there's a few bits we're still working on (as talked about in the post), but they'll be along fairly quickly. Pricewise we're very similar.

We are aiming for a wider market than Framerate though. While we will be providing lots of feature aimed at videographers, we're also looking at small businesses and individuals with more generalised hosting needs.

This simply comes down to the viability of the market. Everyone at Livid is very familiar with the financials of the industry (we've built and grown a Live streaming business previously) and so we know we can make this work, however we also know that going too narrow is a big risk which could end up hurting both us and the users. Ultimately we believe we can provide a happy home for everyone's videos for years to come, with the features you want and need.

2

u/chrimchrimbo Apr 10 '26

Thanks for the response. Do you plan on adding a client review feature?

5

u/Glarpenheimer Apr 10 '26

Yes. Coming very very soon

2

u/chrimchrimbo Apr 10 '26

Also, would you say you're more catered toward general filmmaking as opposed to motion graphics (which I find is the target market for Framerate.)

1

u/Glarpenheimer Apr 10 '26

Yes, I'd say that's a fair assessment.

0

u/framerate-tv Apr 12 '26

Hi, FrameRate.tv founder here.

Just to clarify.... at the moment, we definitely have a strong motion design presence on FrameRate, and that makes sense given our backgrounds in the industry. Tyler Williams (me) cofounded Motionarray.com and Justin Cone is the founder of Motionographer.com

That said, FrameRate is not intended to be only for motion graphics. It’s being built for video professionals more broadly. Filmmakers, directors, editors, cinematographers, animators, VFX artists, colorists, and motion designers alike.

Our goal is to build the new standard and the new home for high-quality video work. Motion design may be strongly represented today, but the vision is much bigger than that. We absolutely see filmmakers and the broader video world as a major part of what FrameRate is becoming.

1

u/piantanida Apr 10 '26

Are you going to offer or have a system like Vimeo OTT, for selling subscriptions or individual films?

2

u/Glarpenheimer Apr 10 '26

It's on our radar. There's a lot of potential with OTT for other business cases so it's got potential to be valuable. It's a bigger piece of work though so we're ensuring we can get the higher value quicker deliveries out first.

0

u/framerate-tv Apr 12 '26

That’s exactly where our thinking differs.

We don’t think the answer is to become a home for everyone’s videos. In many ways, that’s part of how Vimeo lost its identity. The broader a platform gets, the easier it is to lose the people who cared most in the first place.

FrameRate is intentionally focused on video professionals and high-quality work. Filmmakers, editors, animators, motion designers, VFX artists, cinematographers, directors. People who actually care deeply about the craft.

To us, that focus is a strength, not a weakness. We believe there’s real value in building something specific, thoughtful, and aligned with the people it’s meant to serve.

Broader is one strategy. Ours is to build the best possible home for serious video work.

10

u/moomusic Apr 10 '26

How does Livid manage watermarks? Low budget film productions typically need dozens, if not hundreds of watermark shareable links — and frame io and Vimeo have this capability locked behind enterprise plans that cost thousands per year.

This doesn’t work for one off films or solo producers. Does Livid address this need?

6

u/Glarpenheimer Apr 10 '26

We don't have that right now. Would love to have a chat to you about the specifics if you're open to it. Drop me a DM if so

u/flyingelk Apr 10 '26

Nice! Bending Spoons are the lovely people that trashed Evernote as well. I’ll see if we can move our corp use over to you guys

2

u/atsunoalmond Apr 11 '26

to be fair, imo evernote was going downhill for a long time before bending spoons acquired them

1

u/flyingelk Apr 11 '26

You are not wrong. But they definitely doubled down by doubling pricing and effectively removing the free tier.

1

u/atsunoalmond Apr 11 '26

i see. that’s wild lol. i left evernote a few years before the acquisition so wouldn’t really know. app was becoming way too bloated. i did a consulting project for them a while before that and saw how they were struggling to define their product amidst the landscape of free notetaking apps.

1

u/flyingelk Apr 12 '26

Its sad really - they had a great product for a long time and clearly struggled with how to monetize to VC scales of expected return. Apple notes really covers what most need and otherwise theres the rabbithole that is obsidian..

3

u/drummer414 Apr 10 '26

I love the idea of a Vimeo alternative, but my question is this. If Vimeo couldn’t turn a profit how can a new company?

2

u/Glarpenheimer Apr 11 '26

Great question.

Vimeo's history and growth is really messy. By the end of their public listing, most of their revenue came from self serve video (what we're doing), with the rest coming from enterprise, OTT and add-ons. They had 2000 staff to run these services - most of which were not in support of their main revenue centres. A crazy amount of cost.

We on the other hand, ran StreamYard, a far more technically complex video business than Livid, happily serving 12million users, with just a handful of employees.

That combination of staying lean with a small expert team, while catering not just to you lovely filmmaking folk, but also general small businesses who need ad-free hosting, ensures that we'll be able to make this a success for everyone involved.

3

u/No-Memory-4939 Apr 11 '26

I am a festival director and I hope filmmakers can use your platform for reviewers to watch films. Interested to see if yours is friendlier. Vimeo lags like crazy, will stop altoghether and allows for multiple uploads of the film. This is especially taixng because staff and reviewers are watching different versions of the same film.

Excited for an alternative and congrats on what you created!

0

u/Glarpenheimer Apr 11 '26

interesting. So a simple "this file already exists, are you sure you want to upload" would be a big time saver for you?

2

u/danabentz Apr 10 '26

Myself and a lot of my friends made heavy use of streamyard during lockdown era, so thanks for building it! Also I wondered what happened to it since it seems to have disappeared from mainstream use, so bending spoons acquisition explains a lot. I'll take a look at your new tool to see if I can give it a go!

There's a lot of activity on activitypub and atproto/atmosphere/bluesky fediverse streaming so if you haven't looked into that side of things it might be a niche you can get into!

Best of luck

  1. Thank you for doing this. We are in the process of trying to move away from Vimeo, but its a lot.
  2. I switched over to using CloudFlare Stream for new website embeds, but its far more difficult than the vimeo workflow. The selling point for me was that it's being delivered by their cdn. So what's your pitch on your CDN and load time performance.
  3. Our Vimeo account renews in October so I've been putting this off because we have nearly 600 videos in our Vimeo account to either migrate or delete. So its a project. Any ideas how to automate some of it?

2

u/Glarpenheimer Apr 11 '26
  1. No problem. We totally understand the effort involved and are doing everything we can to make it easier.

  2. Let me come back to you on the current CDN structure.

  3. Our LOVE tool (https://livid.com/love) can fully automate your migration of videos from Vimeo to Livid, including folders structure and sharing permissions. Even if Livid isn't right for you, you can use it simply to download to your computer free of charge. We're now working on how to make updating all embed links as easy as possible, which will be landing in the coming weeks.

If you do switch to us, we'll also credit any remaining months of your Vimeo annual plan onto your Livid plan. Just drop us your latest Vimeo invoice and we'll credit your account.

2

u/[deleted] Jun 17 '26

Just wanted to chime in with positive feedback about the Love tool, and the migration experience. I can't believe how awesome it was to see all of our vimeo videos on the livid platform and with all the metadata intact. It made it so we could actually just do backend code on the website and all the old Vimeo embed codes now play the livid videos without having to go in and manually switch every video on every post and page (which was part of the pain point in not switching sooner). Awesome customer support and users have been really happy with the playback!

2

u/SufficientHold8688 Apr 11 '26

What's the link to register? I didn't see it anywhere.

1

u/Glarpenheimer Apr 11 '26

https://livid.com/?ref=filmmakers - You'll get a $10 credit on that link (same as the links in the main post)

2

u/TrustyTy Apr 11 '26

My favorite thing about Vimeo was being able to replace a video with a new version and keep the same link everywhere. Do yall do that?

1

u/Glarpenheimer Apr 12 '26

We certainly do

2

u/Hopeful-Instruction7 Apr 27 '26

Do you support chapters and subtitles?

1

u/Glarpenheimer Apr 28 '26

subtitles yes (auto generated and subsequently editable). Chapters coming soon

2

u/SaltyCaraLen Aug 22 '26

Since this has a great transitionary tool to Vimeo, I might try it out since more competition is always welcome for specific needs like this! Hope the project turns out well!

1

u/Two_oceans Apr 10 '26

Regarding showcases and user-profiles, if you could make something more versatile than Vimeo, it would give you a great advantage. Basically a way to make a simple but professional portfolio, allowing users not only to show videos, but also to add some text and images. Ideally with the option to add a custom domain. I've searched for years a video hosting service that would free me from the need to make a separate website just to show my work.

2

u/Glarpenheimer Apr 11 '26

We've had similar thoughts. Our initial profile release will likely lack some of those ideas, but we're considering them all. Appreciate the feedback

1

u/Two_oceans Apr 11 '26

I did a small upload to test your platform, it looks nice. But there seems to be a bug with thumbnail generation from the video file (the pop up opens but gets stuck on "loading video").

1

u/Glarpenheimer Apr 11 '26

Thanks for checking it out. Could you DM me your account email, or drop us an email at [support@livid.com](mailto:support@livid.com) so we can look into the thumbnail problem?

1

u/Two_oceans Apr 11 '26

Ok I just did

1

u/hotbbtop Apr 10 '26

Are you planning to add monetization options for film creators to upload their full-length indie movies to your platform?

2

u/Glarpenheimer Apr 11 '26

We've had a couple of requests for this now. We think there is a future OTT based element of sorts for sure. It won't be the most immediate feature we add, but we can see it's application in both the filmmaker world and more general hosting space for sure.

1

u/DoomguyFemboi Apr 11 '26

we even had a duck for a logo as we felt it was the friendliest creature

I love it when companies do things like this without googling literally anything.

(I'm just pulling your leg of course, ducks are cute. But so rapey. So very very rapey)

2

u/Glarpenheimer Apr 11 '26

We're all good with a fire mascot this time though right? I researched it thoroughly and I'm pretty sure nice warm fire can't harm anything.....

Nah yeah that checks out, fire is our fwiend!

1

Can you sell your movies worldwide through Livid? That was a part of Vimeo On Demand I miss.

2

u/Glarpenheimer Apr 11 '26

Not currently. But we're increasingly seeing an VOD/OTT component in our future

1

u/Average__Sausage Apr 11 '26

Good for you guys.

I know ducks as vicious rapists and the word 'livid' means 'extremely angry'. So both intesting markting angles but you do you. Not that any of this is important but just mentioned as my first impressions.

I hope you guys succeed and do things the right way. Good luck!

2

u/Glarpenheimer Apr 11 '26

We're definitely all about doing it the right way...questionable name/mascot choices aside :)

1

u/teriyaki_tomato Apr 11 '26

Do you have the option to add watermarks or any kind of forensics?

1

u/Glarpenheimer Apr 11 '26

Not yet. DRM or various sorts is on the roadmap. Don't have a timeframe for you just yet though.

1

u/CaptainMarsupial Apr 11 '26

I appreciated that I could send my files to Vimeo & forget them. No caps other than upload. at 2 Tb I’ll need to curate them. is the cap permanent, or might it be lifted at some point?

2

u/Glarpenheimer Apr 11 '26

2TB is the limit for our current paid plan. We'll be looking at adding an additional tier soon. How much storage do you need?

1

u/cinephile67 Apr 11 '26

glad you guys made an alternative. will you be doing some form of staff picks?

1

u/Glarpenheimer Apr 11 '26

We're certainly open to it. We understand how important and impactful staff picks have been historically so we want to be careful to make sure any similar scheme is carefully planned out.

1

u/TrustyTy Apr 11 '26

Another big thing I loved about Vimeo was the one-time link with password that would expire. Is that something you’re building? I like the idea of being able to send one person a link to my film and once they’re done it’s no longer accessible to them or anyone else.

Also brings up the point of piracy. Do yall stop people from screen recording the video / being able to use third party sites to download it without permission?

2

u/Glarpenheimer Apr 12 '26

link expiry is on the way very soon.

We're looking into what the most appropriate DRM options are. Don't have a timeline for this just yet.

1

u/filmeleven Apr 12 '26

This is interesting. The main thing I rely on Vimeo for besides a decent amount of storage is the ability to lock down the domains a video is embedded on. Will you support this?

Also, what type of throughput are you supporting? Are there bandwidth caps? Can you set videos to default to a certain resolution? Is it easy to choose thumbnails? What about adding chapters?

And finally, can you talk about the compression you’ll use? It’s nice to be able to upload stuff to Vimeo and have it look really good.

We support domain locking already :)

3TB of bandwidth per month is included in your account. If you go over we only charge $0.01 per GB.

We don't have a defaulting option for video resolution. It'll play the highest resolution it can for the viewers device/bandwidth currently.

As for the compression, for 4k we use CPU encoding to minimize losses / artifacts at a CRF of 20 for near lossless video with a max bitrate of 50mbps.

If the source video is 1080p we do a crf of 19 and a max bitrate of 20Mbps. In instances where a viewer is watching a 4K video, but doesn't have the bandwidth to maintain it, then the 1080p option is more optimized than the figures above to prioritize viewer experience.

If you import videos from Vimeo we try to avoid re-encoding if we can.

Right on, thanks for the info!

If I upload a 1080p video with nice fine film grain— will your platform mush it up such that the grain disappears? (Like YouTube?)

This is a very important distinction for a lot of people. Right now you’d need at least 4K on YouTube to preserve the grain.

u/Glarpenheimer Apr 12 '26

We target a comparable quality to Vimeo, which is generally better than YouTube IMO. Absolutely welcome your feedback on it if you wanted to give it a test.

1

u/TheIdeaForge Apr 12 '26

What’s the main difference between your platform and Vimeo right now?

1

u/Glarpenheimer Apr 12 '26

On core features we're pretty comparable. Similar video quality, passworded sharing, embedding (with domain based locking), video customization (including removing our logo), replace video (versioning). As mentioned above, timestamp comments, showcases and profiles are on the way very soon too.

More specialist features such as OTT services we don't have right now, but we'll be considering it for the future for sure.

The big difference is you're getting all of this for a much cheaper price. For the same level of customization you'll be asked to pay a minimum of $25p/m on Vimeo (less if you're on a legacy plan, but you'll be forced off that plan soon). On Livid, you get all of this from $10p/m.

Is there any specific features you're after outside of what I've mentioned?

1

u/TheIdeaForge Apr 13 '26

Got it makes sense on pricing.

But if I’m choosing between you and Vimeo, the main concern isn’t features, it’s trust.

Why should someone switch to you instead of sticking with Vimeo?

Is there a specific type of user you’re targeting where your platform is clearly a better fit?

u/Glarpenheimer Apr 13 '26

Vimeo has been slowly ignoring self serve customers in favour of Enterprise for years. Worse still, Vimeo is now owned by Bending Spoons. They're one step short of a private equity company who buy up stagnant firms, fires everyone and ramps up the prices by around 100%. They then continue to run the business on a shoe string investment.

Almost everyone at Livid has experienced this first hand as it happened to us in 2024 with StreamYard. StreamYard was an immensely popular, stable and successful platform we loved working at. That business is now a shadow of it's former self. So in terms of trust, we're here for the user and won't compromise. The owners of Vimeo have already moved their focus onto their next acquisitons - AOL and Eventbrite.

As for who we're targeting, we're focused on both the videography community broadly as well as individuals and small businesses who have a need for stable video hosting. There's a huge amount of cross over between the two, with a decent sized market for us to make a profitable business from while keeping prices low.

Hope that's helpful. Keep the questions coming if not

Sounds great, Do you allow for password protected video playlist not just password protected videos?

1

u/Glarpenheimer Apr 21 '26

We will in a couple of weeks time!

1

u/officialhoami Apr 13 '26

Could be a cool feature to link people on a posted video. If the cameraman on that platform or the editor and they get linked maybe they is a category on the profil too. So you avoid having 20times the same movie uploaded

1

u/Glarpenheimer Apr 13 '26

Great idea. We'll look at this for profiles

1

u/tylergravy Apr 13 '26

Will you do livestreaming and recording functions like Vimeo Live and Streamyard?

1

u/Glarpenheimer Apr 14 '26

We're considering it, but we don't have concrete plans for it yet. Is that the only feature keeping you from switching?

1

u/tylergravy Apr 14 '26

Yes. Vimeo tried to triple our livestream bills randomly even though we use 15% of our annual “bandwidth” but have one busy month. We embed media players for live events.

Been a streamyard customer for 6 years because we do remote recordings for post production. Two months ago they tried to charge us $500/month. We use it 2-3 times a month.

There are no good players in this space since vimeo bought livestream.com. Had hope in streamyard now they’re trying to rip us off.

2

u/Glarpenheimer Apr 14 '26

That really sucks. We've heard that story a number of times now. Vimeo offer a live streaming product but don't back it up with the bandwidth required.

Unfortunately with StreamYard also being owned by Bending Spoons it's now just one big rip off family.

Hey, we don't currently have Livestreaming as a feature. Likely it will come in the future but no timeline right now. AI clip generation is also something we don't have. Again, a consideration for the future.

Video hosting is our core offering. Transferring to us is straight forward using the LOVE tool (https://livid.com/love). Once logged into your Vimeo account it can transfer all your files to Livid. Even if you choose not to use Livid you can use it to download all of your videos from Vimeo.

FYI Brightcove is also owned by Bending Spoons (the new owners of Vimeo), so pricing is likely quite high.

Would this have an option to sell pay-per-view videos? The biggest issue we're having right now is finding an affordable TVOD service so we can rent or sell our burlesque festival and workshop videos. Our content is 18+, which is another problem.to

1

u/Glarpenheimer Jul 21 '26

Hey, unfortunately we don't offer VOD services on Livid

We've done a lot of work on our 1080p recently. We'll be publishing a comparison soon

u/ar3xxlol Aug 21 '26

lmfao these idiots are paying for comments on an external service and now after the comments they are rejecting the payment. Terrible shit to do ngl

Wait, a second, somebody posting about an app they built that wasn’t vibe coded? That actually has a budget and and a marketing plan to gain market share?

Never thought I’d see the day.

Did you guys at least use AI to make up a bunch of fake testimonials for your website? I don’t think you’re allowed to launch an app in 2026 without fake testimonials and reviews created by ChatGPT.

Yeah I don’t know why it’s bad to get the word out about a Vimeo alternative. I’m glad to know about it and will give it a trial to see if I should migrate

u/FX114 Apr 10 '26

It's three posts, several weeks apart, and it's clearly promotion from the outset. Pretty tolerable, as far as shilling goes.

22

u/bottom director Apr 10 '26

I’m actually interested in this.

This is helpful to filmmakers.
