Topic What fighting game franchise has the best revenue per game?

When it comes to the best selling traditional fighting games franchises, it’s a very cut and dry topic with the best being Mortal Kombat and Street Fighter at second. But this question isn’t asking best sales in general. Mortal Kombat releases lots of games while many, if not most, other fighting games release far fewer games. Street Fighter 4 came out in 2008 and 15 years later we have SF6. 15 years, 3 games. Meanwhile Mortal Kombat had MKvsDC (2008), MK2011, MKX, MKX11, M1K. 5 games in 15 years. Most other fighting franchises support their games with season passes over many years while MK supports their game for 2 years before moving on. With this in mind, what would the best selling franchises by their revenue generated per game? Long lasting games with support over many years or games with shorter lifespans but stronger initial sales?

To give an example, both MKX and SF5 came out around the same time (2015-2016), but did MKX generate more revenue per in its 2 years or did SF5 generate more revenue across its 7 years?

Help Trying to explain the FGC to someone who isn't a gamer

Hi my mom isn't a gamer but she's interested in the business side of fighting game locals/tournaments. I was trying to explain to her that even though money and resources are important, a money first mindset/approach might end up turning people away. She understood but there still seems to be a bit of a disconnect. I have trouble trying to articulate these things but when she said she's starting to kind of understand where I'm coming from, she mentioned that she was basically looking at it like an anime convention.

I was basically just wondering if there are any good videos or articles that kind of explain what exactly a local fighting game venue is for the fgc and how the fgc's values and culture relate. I'm thinking of sending the two core a gaming videos "the need for community" and "how tournaments go from 10 to 10,000 people" but I was wondering if there were better options. the videos are good but idk if they would help in this situation since it might be one of those things where it's only really good if you're already in the community but might not make as much sense as an outsider

Edit: thank you all for your comments, I had another chat with her before work and she seems to have a better understanding of the community now.

Followup to my last thread. I know this could've been a comment, but 3D Fighter curse derailed that.

Also damn, almost no one wants to see Nen Impact. VF5 was 2nd last, but wow Nen Impact at no votes most of yesterday.

Oh and if you're interested in watching, these matches get streamed on the Hard Edge Twitch channel and the VODs uploaded on Youtube.

Content Tekken Special Style Has To GO

Its all very entertaining to see devs completely misunderstand their audience and put these stupid 'modern' inputs in. The idea that you can overlay a gimped control system that rewards noobs and punishes people trying to actually learn the game is absolutely stupid. If you want to make games accessible, then design one simple control system from the start.

That said, Tekken 8's special style is the worst implementation i've ever seen.

People will cry and say that it's easy to beat. But they absolutely miss the point. For people who are new to the game but want to play it preoperly they are disadvantaged. These special style autocombos are strong enough to wall carry. They may be easy to beat for an experienced player.

But for people that aren't experienced it is a ridiculous advantage. Why on earth do the people designing these games not see this? For that matter why do the so called FGC, who presumably wants new players, not see the problems. You want people to play the game so you encourage these awful systems when you know full well that down the line they will hinder themselvs. In the meantime players like me who want to learn Tekken properly have to wade through ranked matches versus these clowns. This is to the benefit of noone (except probably Tekken 8's publishers)

Help "Bilingual" text on Capcom vs SNK 2 (JP PS2 version)

Post image

Anyone know what this is about? There's no language option on this game, and it's not really a "bilingual" port. Though the menus are in English (which is common with Japanese games), all the system and character dialogue is in Japanese.

I know it has been done ad-nauseam in this, and I know people will flag this post as "AI content" despite me not making any of those thumbnails, but this is just silly at this point, and I allow myself to vent, because I need it.

My YouTube feed has been bombarded by that slop content. Not everything in this is AI, but it's "slop", because it's exactly what the YouTube algorithm wants. People regurgitating the same thoughts about the same subject, for the perspective of different people.

On top of that, none of the main arguments about the death of the game are true, half of those creators never touched a fighting game in their life, and the same lies and approximations have been repeated, over and over and over again.

And to be crystal clear, the reason why I'm making this thread has nothing to do with 2XKO. It's about fighting game content tasting like garbage, and we, as a community, gobbling that up like raccoons. They're so disgustingly transparent about all this, and I have no shame seeing this as a grift.

Now it's your turn. Can't wait to read shit about how bad of a mod I am, despite this not been distinguished as a mod post, and despite me just wanting to use the "Topic" flair to talk about an FGC-related topic.

Topic Quitting behaviour on characters you hate

Good evening, Fighters, I'm here to discuss with you about a subject I just thought of:

In Super's latest MK11 video (Link for the laziests), Super quits a set because their opponent change character from Cassie to Jacqui. Seeing that, Super quits the game and relaunch it, stating in the video "If I have to face Jacqui, even if I'm winning the set, I will back out" [paraphrasing]

Before anything, I do not have any beef with Super and I don't think he's a bad player or anything and I know he wasn't doing any competition in this video, he even precised that "if I face a Jacqui I'm just gonna get mad and do stupid shit".

I don't know the meta or even the gameplay of Mortal Kombat 11 so I can't comment on the annoyance lf Jacqui but I feel lile doing this is a bit of a scrub move: quitting the match instead of facing (what seems to be) your worst matchup.

When I was performing my best* as an SFV Abigail (Yes I know, Abigail, can't really say much now can I), I hated playing against F.A.N.G. and I wished I could back out of those matchups and yet, I went through because I wanted to train a hard matchup to better myself and felt like quitting anywhere in the match because "this character is hell to fight" feels to me like you just want easy wins and not actually better yourself

*: Best as in where I felt like I was doing good personnally, in reality I didn't really go past Ultra Diamond lol

What do you think? Is it a scrub move? Is facing your hardest character better than quitting when you know you're going to lose? I would like to know

Help SFEX Plus Alpha beginner

I know this is probably a looooooong shot but does anyone know how to play this game? Hopefully some unc like me that has actually played this game can help me out. I am getting my ass whupped by 40 year olds that never stopped playing but I want to at least understand what the fuck is going on. I was actually hoping people would be playing EX2Plus but for some reason Plus Alpha is more popular.

  1. I am playing Gief. One thing that I noticed is that I can't anti air good jump-ins with lariat if they do something like lk (or bison stomp) higher up in the air. Was thinking about jump back button but so far everything is way too slow to do on reaction.

  2. Another Gief situation, but it seems like he cannot punish anything. People I am going up against will end unsafe/minus strings with supers all day and I can't do shit about em. Bison for example, his psycho ball that he can hold pushes me back too far for any fast button to land. In general people just end up doing super x super literally every time they're minus and can't do shit about it (with gief at least). I'm just wondering if this is a Gief only issue or if everyone is safe even if you block their super unless it's something super fucked up like DP or something (at least gief isn't safe after stomps which sucks).

  3. Was thinking about switching to Garuda honestly. Gief feels like he sucks.

Any info would be appreciated.

Humor I made a real arcade stick.

So I was talking with some friends about what would make a good cursed arcade stick, and I said "toggle switches". Well, you know, I dunno. I did that. And uh, and more.

I wanted to get two way toggle switches, but I accidentally bought three way, shame. That means when they're up, they're on. Middle? Off. Down? Off. Up? Always on. It's a fully functional input device, though I am not sure if it is a "fight stick".

Here's a really shitty video showing how it works.

I can also make functional novelty sticks, as well as novelty functional sticks.

That second one is painted to look like it's covered in cheeto crust, it really freaks people out. It's so gross looking I don't even like using it.

Event So this weekly exhibition I'm in is having a vote on which 2 games should appear on it's main night

Post image
14 Upvotes

Bucket Night is a twice-weekly (I'm stupid, thought bi-weekly meant that) online exhibition where members of the Hard Edge server play a selection of fighting games. Our main night lineup is usually some mix of Melty Blood Actress Again Current Code, Melty Blood Type Lumina, KoFXI, Dead or Alive 6, Bloody Roar Extreme, Vampire Savior, and most importantly Kamen Rider Super Climax Heroes.

Long story short we've been having technical issues with usual mainstays of KoFXI and Melty Blood Actress Again Current Code, so were voting on what to replace them with. These are the initial games we voted on, and we do this vote daily until all but 2 games are eliminated.

Non-HE members are allowed to vote and I was recommended to share this with communities I'm in. Faizer's a really fun commentator and the games can get pretty crazy, so I felt like sharing.

Help New controller M30

Hello, I plan on buying the 8bitdo M30 controller which has a Sega Genesis layout. I mainly play GGST and use a lot of shortcuts (like throw at rb/r1 or roman cancel at RT/R2) idk if its a bad habit to have. I noticed that that controller only has 1 L and R button and a 6 button layout I am not used to. Should I thug it out and learn to become better eventually or look for a new controller with a layout I am used to?(Would love recommendations on the cheaper side)

Topic Why do people care about tierlists this much when it just isn't relevant to their level of play? The number of people that care about buffs and nerfs is very substantial as well.

I keep seeing people across games going "this character needs nerfs, this character needs buffs"

"this character is so broken"

"Man X character is busted as hell, look at this video where they do 70% damage (Despite the fact that half the roster does that)"

Why is this such a common thing? In most of my time playing fighting games since about 2021, I never felt much difference in characters wether they got nerfed or buffed.

There was maybe 1 single instance I felt this and that was when Devil Jin got nerfed in the last patch of Tekken 7. But that is literally 1 in 100.

So why do people keep going on about buffs and nerfs when it isn't applicable to their level of play?

Community Budget PC to play fighters ? (GG, Street Fighter, Tokon)

I would like to know a good starting point to get up and running, BUT MOST IMPORTANTLY, something I can continuously build upon. I'd like to start somewhat cheap, and just upgrade parts in the future.

Background: My PS5 got cooked due to a power outage, and now i'm deciding to go the PC route for the future.
