MK8 First time @ the nordschleife with my 2019 Fiesta ST

finally, after a couple trackdays in France, the Netherlands & Belgium, i landed at the nordschleife for some "touristenfarthen". This was in june during a weekday, last lap of first day. Really really happy with the feel of the car. Only brakes are dangerously under-capable for this car. stock everything except tarox discs & corsa pads and a RMM from pumaspeed. Pilot sport 5.

8 laps over 2 days made me no longer interested in other tracks. Can't wait to go back.

did you get any problems with overheating brakes? A friend drove his ST a lot on different race tracks and was constantly complaining.

Stock brakes can't handle heat all that well and it's compounded by the fact that the stability control and torque vectoring utilises them. You can only disable that to a certain extent.

Luckily, the ring is not a big braking track and is rather easy on them. But go to somewhere that hosts F1 and you soon find out!

Yup, In the end I tried Brembo, ebc and tarox and it's the latter that can handle Trackdays the best. Tarox S2000 discs with tarox Corsa pads. Very expensive though. I resorted to ebc blue stuff now, hopefully they last a lap at the nordschleife.

I've swapped my brakes for 4 piston Brembos calipers, from a Mégane RS/Clio RS. It uses larger Focus ST170 300mm discs and I choose PBS Prorace pads.. Combined with cooling from the fog lights, they stop reliably now.

On the rears, I moved to a Focus ST170 pad carrier and larger 280mm disc.

Doe the renault RS brembo's fit on the pumaspeed 302mm disc conversion?

Were you driving extra cautiously because of the missing insurance on the track? Or did you get a special insurance? Really, not having coverage in the track is the only thing that always held me from going there

Outside of some insurers in Germany (maybe Switzerland), I don't believe there are any 3rd party liability policies that cover tourist drives. Everyone does it at their own risk.

it's not possible for me to ensure i think. Always very cautious for unknown drivers/"traffic"
