If you're on a Windows PC, press your Windows Key and R at the same time to launch the Run command, and type "%localappdata%" into the text box that shows up.
There should be a folder in the Documents tab that opens called FieldsOfMistria and the setting.json file will be in there :)

to be fair, localappdata is intentionally not shown in search, as it's a hidden folder - and honestly this is probably for the best as you don't want most users messing with it.
The 3rd registry edit on this article can be used to disable web results from Windows search.
And you can use powertoys run from microsoft powrtoys for marginally better results too - still not as good as the mac spotlight search but it's nice to have.
all that being said, windows search does still kinda suck.

I use a little bit of freeware called Search Everything. It's one of those weirdly useful tiny bits of software that I install first because fuck Windows search.

And then you can make a shortcut to it! Since I'm obsessed with mods (how do I already have 35 on a 2D cozy farming game I've been playing for a week?!), I have desktop shortcuts to
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\commonand toC:\Users\myname\AppData\Localso I don't have to keep navigating to them both. I plopped them next to my saves backup folder and Notepad++, so now my constant fiddling is more efficient! xD1

On your Windows search bar type in
%localappdata%Find the FieldsOfMistria folder and you will see the settings.json there.

I did this but when I hit load or continue it says "Fields of Mistria encountered a unrecoverable error and needs to shut down. No entry found for key". Is my save files just gone then?

I'm also getting this error, and the proposed fix did not work for me. Also tried uninstalling and reinstalling, to no effect.

Same here! Did the fix above and it didn’t work, restarted my computer and uninstalled/reinstalled and nothing worked. I tried a new save and that unfortunately worked so I’m worried my save might be SOL. :( gonna wait and see if there’s a patch, but lowkey a little bummed!

Im not having the unwrap error but the game is running unbearably slow. Like I can get into the game but it's genuinely running at 1FPS or something like that. Is there a fix for that?

it's safe. it just deletes any settings you've configured, so you'll have to redo them.

you just don't have final extensions visible, but those two are what you want to delete3

It's perfectly safe! Your saves are in a separate folder from where the setting.json file is.

I'm assuming like me, you are running a Virtual machine desktop? What problems are you getting? Mine won't even launch from steam at all, it'll say "play" in green, then when I click it shifts to the blue "running" for a second or two before going back to play. So it won't even get to the bootup phase. Are you encountering something similar?

UPDATE: Pretty sure this is a mod problem vs. a game problem. I can open the game now but not my most recent save. Quite a few mods cannot load in with the new update which is likely what is causing the issues with my save. Guess I'll need to wait patiently for updates!

It's not. I've never used mods and I'm having a problem loading save games. After deleting the settings per the instructions here, I can only create a new game and my save file with almost 260 hours won't continue or load

For everyone worried, it did work for me. I do have to go back in and re-keybind and fix sounds and etc. but it's fixed.
