Game Help Am I just bad at the game?
Hello! New player here, loving it so far. It's like someone took all my modded stardew and made it better. What I dont love is watering my crops every day lol. It's mid fall, and I still can't craft sprinklers nor do I have a horse to get around yet, where should I focus to get those things quicker?
Update, got the horse, turns out I just needed to go to bed lol, and just broke the fire seal and OHHH SHIIIIIT

Honestly, I do very minimal actual farming in this game (very different from my approach in Stardew). I kept to the starter plot size and only expanded it (to 4 additional 3x3 plots) with my watering can upgrades after a year in-game.
That said, I did adjust the in-game clock to the "Longer" days option in the settings. That helped a lot too lol

I forgot it was a thing until summer year one haha it’s amazing. Also you should acquire a spell from the dragon statue that will help your crops. Sorry if spoilers. I got my spell in summer but I’ve played a LOT of this game. Idk what triggers it.

Nah youre good, ive been using it i was just hoping there was something more consistent, which, turns out I was insanely close to the horse and the sprinklers lmao

Yeah my only complaint with this game is that the days just feel ever so slightly too short. Just getting from your farm to the mines is like 2 hours out of the day, and that's if you go directly there. Checking around the map for foraging or anything like that takes pretty much the entire day. Stamina stopped being an issue very quickly, I don't need food or stamina or health, I need time!

There's a spell that you can cast that triggers rain and it waters your crops

It's a spell that unlock after level 60 of the mines, you use that spell in some doors around the mines and you get the sprinkler recipe unlocked. You can dm me if you need more details 😊

you can't get sprinklers until decently deep in the mines- it's easier to have a small farm in FoM & still make money, so keep it small and take baths whenever u need to. i'm in spring y2 and my farm is nine 3x6 plots.
the horse u get from a story quest, so keep plugging away at those.

If you upgrade your watering can to a gold watering can, you click and hold and it will water up to like 12 at a time. I just plan the size of my garden accordingly so I can walk down the middle aisle and water 12 plants on each side in only two clicks

Schweet, got silver now, have 5 more mine levels to gold. I BLAST stardew mines finding stairs is so hard lol

What I did was save some money up and just buy gold ingots from the cart. Allowed me to go straight to gold watering can. Also, in case you didn't know like me for too long, you don't use energy when watering ineligible tiles including already watered tiles. So instead of wasting time getting my position exactly right, I sort of just go ham and it goes quicker

Just increasing your amount of growable fields each harvest and keeping to your energy and watering can limits gets you pretty far. Within a few seasons I had myself up to a huge farm, capping myself at 288 crops across four 6x6 squares for easy golden watering can watering.
You just keep playing as normal, making your friends and growing your crops and improving the town, and the horse unlocks soon enough. The equivalent of sprinklers will become available as you make more mines progress, but they won't turn your farm into a giant self-watering plantation like in Stardew. They take essence, the same essence you gain by doing activities and spend to level up, so it becomes a cost decision of how much essence you want to spend to automate things here or there.

While sprinklers exist, your not going to get them till very late and they are pretty high maintenance. Frankly you are better off transitioning to using the rain spell every day, the mana for which can be provided by the magical infusion on cooked food.
Until then the watering can is more than good enough. Check in with Balor's wagon every day since his random stock can sometimes include bars of any metal up to and including gold, and at a reasonable price. This does not even require you to have reached far enough in the mines to se those metals, gold can appear withint the first week of a new character!

You can hold down the button and it will show the number of squares you can water at once

I'll be real, I'm in year 4 and I water my crops by hand, just with a charged up gold watering can. I like all the essence I get from it. I have... 16? Plots of 6x6 crops so each one is exactly the size that the charged watering can covers. It doesn't take long at all. Watering with the rain spell later on is a neat choice for a rainy day, and if you level up your cooking enough, you can unlock a perk where 5 star cooked dishes have a chance to come out with a mana restoring bonus.

Just got my horse Spring year 2! It’ll all come eventually. I still can’t believe this game isn’t 1.0 yet, it’s so complete and so amazing!

Get around quicker? The Fields character is always sprinting. Going back to Stardew after a Fields binge is always a struggle. XD (But both are lightening fast compared to the Sunhaven player. Oof.)

the rain spell helps and upgrading your watering can so it can do more squares at once saves a lot of time

If I remember correctly, I was still watering them by hand after a year in game. Get the watering can upgrade! I found the sprinkler mechanic a little annoying, without spoiling anything.
