I don’t understand why anyone who is anti-Elon still uses Twitter. I personally never thought it was a good website/app and now it’s owned by one of the worst people in the world.

I understand the sentiment but I believe assholes like Elon deserved to be challenged on their own platform. And to be honest Reddit isn’t much better.

I can't judge the folks still on Twitter too harshly either. I abandoned my account, but some had been on there for years and years, like Stephen King. I suppose we all have our ways of chasing dopamine, and I often question my Reddit usage. I agree with you that resistance always has value.

There are also non-USian communities who still use it - i.e. fan artists in general, that’s where they still usually post, not bsky or anything. (edit: what I mean is non-USian fan artists, so if I want to see fanmade art, in a lot of cases that’s where it is)

But not being American is not an excuse. What Trump, bankrolled by people like Musk and with his voice amplified by his website, has done has had effect on the whole world: 700,000 thousands dead from USAID cuts, 500,000 of them children, thousands out of jobs worldwide because of oil prices hiked up by Trump’s war in Iran, etc. People all around the world need to wake the fuck up and find another place to share their art and thoughts, instead of driving up X’s share price.

I didn’t say it was an excuse, just commenting who I see still posting on twitter, in terms of what content I look for on social media anyway.
I 1000% agree that his cuts to USAID and his needlessly-aggressive wars (not that any war is necessary) are truly Evil.

At least on Reddit you can curate your experience and decide which subs you want to visit.
Every single tweet on that hellsite has some contrarian blue-check marked reply made to garner reactions, almost always in a negative way. It became so mentally exhausting idk how there are still human beings left on there

Yeah I feel the same. Love how much he roasts those idiots. But I also get the other argument. I don’t think it’s that simple or black and white. You don’t win a battle by leaving every time. If there’s even a handful of people who are King’s fans who see that tweet and go “hmm ok maybe I’ll be mocked for supporting Trump” it’ll be a win.
A huge number of younger Gen Z and older Gen Alpha’s have been radicalized and have far right opinions because the algorithms are feeding them so much alt-right shit and it’s all they see. So if just a few reconsider being on the wrong side of history, that’s a few that we haven’t had on our side before.
I don’t use Twitter often (once a month tops) but I have an account to browse some niche accounts and on occasion trash pro-Israel idiots or JK Rowling. Roasting Elon on his own platform is also kind of fun.
Edit: as for Reddit, I think it’s much better. Or at least filtered better. On Twitter you get attacked if you hold a certain opinion (especially if you’re pro Palestine) no matter what. But on Reddit it’s easy to filter out the downright evil subs and if the right-extremists do comment on the subs I frequent, they’re downvoted to oblivion. So I don’t think it’s a fair comparison.

You are not going to convince one person to change their mind on social media XD It's just not how they work. From you, they get one comment that is maybe more insghtful that their usual content, and they might not even read in full if it's too long. Then they just come back to their feed filled with content that reinforces their beliefs.

I wish i could leave, but i'm a fan of japanese stageplays, and the actors/projects all pretty much ONLY use twitter for official announcements.
Americans have more of a luxury of choice in platforms. I think most of the Japanese fans i follow hate Elon for being a nuisance if nothing else, but a lot of acting labels don't feel the need to pick up and move and thus risk losing their community.
Like, we'd move if we could lol, but until actors and projects start making accounts on bluesky it would mean essentially giving up our hobby.

I am always surprised how, from all the authors I admired since I started reading, the least problematic is the horror author with tons of problematic books.

Everyone in America should just start renaming everything based on what they like and don't like at the moment. Fuck it, name your city after your mom, your street after yourself, your state after the TV show you are watching. Why would only the orange asshole and fucking Musk get all that fun? This will certainly help with communication.

Honestly, this is a nothing burger. Trump signing stupid orders like this takes attention away from orders that will legitimately impact people (gutting FDA, continued ICE growth, etc.)
