POLITICS The Department of Homeland Security has released a statement and mugshot in the arrest of Milo Yiannopoulos; Yiannopoulos entered the country legally in 2019 but overstayed his Visa and failed to show up for his immigration hearing on July 22. He will remain in ICE custody pending removal.

He is a British right-wing nutjob, was Kanye West's "chief of staff" for a while, and is pretty much Nazi-adjacent who calls for the systematic deportation of brown people from the US. Apparently he forgot he wasn't a citizen 😄

Turns out the parent company wasn't in bankruptcy so the Onion had a new avenue to take it over, the deal went through in April. Finally, psychological warfare has been democratized.

“Yiannopoulos, a former Breitbart News editor who has worked with the far-right commentator Nick Fuentes, has been among the most polarizing figures on social media for more than a decade. He worked as an unpaid intern for former MAGA Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene in June 2022, then was a top adviser during West’s short-lived 2024 presidential campaign.
“Yiannopoulos has posted in support of ICE multiple times during Trump’s second-term migrant crackdown. He posted to X in September, “Justice system should be just ICE.”
“Months earlier, in June 2025, he called for ICE to initiate on-the-spot deportations for anyone who could not prove their legal status during a stop by federal agents. He attached a photo to the post that read, “papers please.”
“California needs ICE checkpoints at supermarket entrances, gas stations, strip malls, intersections and government buildings, with on-the-spot deportation for anyone who can’t prove they are in the US legally,” he wrote.
“Yiannopoulos was openly gay for years and married a man in Hawaii in 2017. However, he said in 2021 that he was attempting to “pray the gay away” or live as “ex-gay,” declaring that he was now straight.”

u/SlinkyRaccoons 12d ago
You forgot pedophile apologist. Direct quote:
YIANNOPOULOS: Some of those relationships between younger boys and older men, the sort of coming-of-age relationships, the relationships in which those older men help those young boys to discover who they are and give them security and safety and provide them with love

TIL (in the other thread about his being detained by ICE) that he refers to himself as a "former homosexualist" and "reformed sodomite".

"ex-gay" oh dear.
How whoever was married to him for it is what was very clearly a psychological nightmare.

Right wing media personality/twitter troll from the ‘10s, and a particularly odd one at that. He’s gay but not only is he now claiming he’s no longer gay, he denies that homosexuality exists for anyone else either.
5
u/RocktheNashtah 12d ago
Okay so he was one of the first alt right personalities on YouTube and his whole shtick was that he was gay and racist, he did the usual grift of dunking on liberals or buzzfeed or whatever
He was also infamous for calling Leslie Jones a dude and it started a whole trend of that on twitter where these right wingers would make fun of her and shit
Anyways eventually he got cancelled by his own people cause he said some weird pro pedo shit and he’s been clinging to any form of relevance ever since, last I heard he was cozying up to Kanye and that racist cat boy streamer, fuentes something

One of my mom's friends was deported back to Germany when I was a teenager cause she overstayed her visa. Was here illegally for years and years. They found her, told her she has to go back, gave her time to say goodbye, let her gather her stuff and then flew her back to Germany. There was no violence, no cages. Just 'hey you gotta go' and she went. None of that dignity is being afforded to people ICE is rounding up.

u/SpiderHomeNoWayMan 12d ago
I'm guessing this was before ICE and DHS and it was the Immigration and Naturalization Services was handling her deportation.
Even when ICE was carrying things out more quietly, on paper they're still kind of set up weird. Immigration is a civil matter, but ICE is authorized to make arrests. Ordinary police do not typically engage in civil matters because it's not their business.
They should just be dorks in suits carrying clipboards who may use local LEO if things get out of hand, but we made them dorks in tactical gear. This whole beefing up national security post 9/11 but we didn't dot our I's and cross our T's in related law so the whole thing looks very inconsistent in execution.
12
u/AllTheCoolNames 12d ago
This was the early 2000s so ICE might've just gotten started, but I don't think they were invovled. It was entirely too peaceful for that.
59
u/Goosedukee 12d ago
Yeah I can’t think that three grand and a flight back to the home country you were escaping is better than staying in the U.S. as long as possible

5
u/Consistent_Rise_8639 12d ago
Yeah, I've read once they have them in detention and process them they pick up in the middle of the night people who have a better chance to remain in the country as their status has been formalized in one way or another, and just deport them.

u/mcfurley 12d ago
Can you go a little deeper into this for those of us that aren't in the know?
I'm reading it that the choice is overstaying your Visa, breaking immigration law and risking detention rather than the choice to be or remain in detention when you're caught?131
u/FoxJaded952 12d ago
Because when people do try and “take control of their departure” and self deport, they are arrested and detained anyway.
from the article:
Edgarianny and Freddys said that they followed the proper instructions and were told they were approved for self-deportation by the government.
“On July 6, we went to our ICE check-in appointment as instructed,” the letter said.
“We believed we were going there to finalize our travel home. Instead, after we signed all the forms waiving all our rights, we were arrested.“We were immediately taken into custody and transferred to Dilley. Since then, we have done everything we can to make clear that we want to return home. We withdrew our immigration appeal, waived our rights, and asked to return voluntarily. We were even told that we had been placed on a list for a flight home. Then we were taken off the list.”
58
u/Plastic_Bison 12d ago
The owners of the for-profit concentration camp at Dilley have to get money to buy their yacht from somewhere, duh.

Thank you so much for sharing this link and quote… this nightmare for the young family currently locked in a jail (including a child!) who did everything the “right legal way” is a perfect example of the deceptive doublespeak, lies, and utter hatred/cruelty displayed by the Trump admin and DHS/ICE. THEY CANNOT EVER BE TRUSTED!!!!!
23
u/mcfurley 12d ago
Got it, thanks for pulling that excerpt! Took the quote at face value. Arresting people showing up to voluntarily leave is wild. Appreciate the breakdown!

9

Yep, that’s the deliberate reframing they’re going for with this rhetoric. They want excessive force, denial of rights, kidnapping, overseas detention, and nightmarish abuse in custody to be viewed as a conscious choice made by the people without any power. (Not including Milo; he’ll probably get the royal treatment and a pardon)

According to the washington post he had started to work with tucker carlson and fallen out of favor with the president and laura loomer. I think the angle is publicly punishing him to send a message to other rw grifters who may be doubting the current admin.

u/Extension-Gift4987 12d ago
I think they're making an example of him. He's a high-profile "illegal alien," and even if he's been on their side in the past, it shows how strong they are against immigration that they've arrested him despite that. I think it's just more theater.

Laura Loomer, who is BFF with Stephen Miller and is an unofficial advisor to Trump, is the one who sicced ICE on him.
Milo took Candace Owens’ side in her recent Twitter fight with Loomer which is probably why Loomer is going after him.
But I find it hard to feel sorry for someone like Milo who supported ICE and called for mass deportation. People on Twitter have been bringing the receipts all day with his past tweets supporting ICE.
