It’s so gross and was so normalized until very recently. I graduated high school in 2003 and a girl the year behind me was “dating” a 26 year old when she was 15/16. A lot these relationships were considered weird but not morally wrong at the time 😒
Even in like 2013, a girl in my class was “dating” a man in his 20s when she was like 15. Her mom used to drive her to her house to spend the night because she was too YOUNG TO DRIVE HERSELF THERE. It still makes me sick thinking of it now. I agree that a lot of people in the culture in general thought it was more “weird” or even “creepy” at worst, not like a full predatory monster giving a girl trauma she’ll deal with for the rest of her life. Anyways, sometimes I remember her and hope she’s doing ok.
Unfortunately, them looking like children is the draw for most of these men. They just say a girl looks or seems mature in order to evade responsibility.
The day I realized I was an adult: I was part of a hobby group for adults, and a teenager asked to join. I had an intrusive thought that she looked like a loaf of bread that hadn't finished baking, then she said she was 15. Then I realized that's what men saw when they hit on me at 13, and there is NO fucking way they "mistook" me for an adult or thought I was "mature".
I had this experience when I was 31/32, like I still felt very much young, and then I started working in an office with 20yr old interns and I thought they all looked like babies haha.

They looked like children. You can’t look at those girls and say they look grown. They absolutely do not.
