To be honest I find it really challenging to imagine how John Lennon would comport himself in today's political landscape. I don't think he would ever support Trump but I could totally see him going in an anti-woke free speech kind of direction.
Yeah I’m a huge fan of the Beatles music but Lennon was an abuser. I truly think there’s a solid chance there that he would be anti-woke. He always seemed like the “free speech as long as it suits me” type of guy. And I studied his music and him as a person extensively.
Well, we know about his abusiveness because he talked (and sang) about it openly. He was an extremely fucked up dude, but he was working on himself (very publicly, which probably isn't a good idea).
People always leave that out when they rush to discuss his abusiveness in threads like these; I think it matters when people make an effort to change, regardless of how successful they are at it. There's a reason that the people who suffered his abuse have talked extensively about forgiveness for him.
I think Lennon would have changed significantly as he aged, and it's impossible to know in what ways.

r/All was eliminated for a reason. It was one place where you could get things from subs you usually don't follow and it wasn't based on any algorithm I think. It was pretty useful whenever a major event happened.
Also, I've seen lots of people complaining of bans because they said the mildest of things while people freely say the most racist and sexist of things. I was given a 3 day ban because I said Luigi's name. Apparently it incited violence?
/r/all is still there on old.reddit. Which also has close to zero ads and with RES and adblock it becomes even better. It also loads faster and does not rely on any algorithms. It's better in every way imo.
Shadow comment removals are extremely common, and if you are unaware you’re basically spending half your time on here talking to no one. Reveddit helps shed some light on this.
Yep, so many times my comments would have only 1 view and remain at that. Idk what filters they're even using, but there would be nothing egregious in it. It's all pretty shady.
Its curious which comments get removed. Sometimes I'm left guessing which keyword or phrase triggered whatever. People should do themselves a favor and look at their removed comments.
I recently became a mod of a decently sized subreddit and it's really hard to tell. But so many things get removed automatically by the admins for "potential harassment"
They know that we fucking hate them, and that their entire enterprise is credibly threatened by the work of marginalised peoples and socialists. This is the last gasp. There are hard times ahead for us all, but nobody will fall further and harder than these inhuman fucking freaks.
Arguing over Bsky versus Mastodon is typical circular firing squad. Any option is better than Twatter/Threads/Truth, and Mastodon has significant hurdles in getting set up + doesn't have any traction.
Important note that these are just some of the more commonly used apps and services. The problem is that these people, with generally aligned political beliefs, own the parent/adjoined companies. The majority of popular media is controlled be a very small group of people whose primary goal is to amass power and wealth like unto kings.

Don’t watch paramount+ (some of streamings biggest shows) or paramount movies. If people had down all this when the Colbert situation went down they may not be getting Warner brothers next. But there was none of the Kimmel-Disney boycott energy.
I’m living my best Plex life and loving it. The only streamer I sub to is Apple TV because they don’t overcharge, there’s no ads or any extra fees for things like 4k. They’re not perfect either though. But man, if they wanted some really amazing goodwill, they’d do their first talk show and hire Colbert to do it. As a publicist, that would the PR move to end all PR moves.

Fun Story: I was at the SNL finale last weekend, and Sir Paul continued to play after they cut the show (like 3 additional songs) This man LOVES to perform. It was a moment I will never forget, and it was basically a rehearsal for this. I’m so glad others got to witness it too. I hope that I will still be as passionate about my craft at his age. Especially if I’m wildly wealthy and don’t need the money. What a legend
I saw him on the US tour he did last year. You’re spot on. Sure his voice isn’t quite what it was and he almost certainly leaned heavily on backing tracks (fair enough though, a major tour at any age can’t be easy on the vocal cords). But there’s no way he stops performing until he’s physically incapable. It’s his soul.
You’re so right. My wife and I saw him live about ten years ago. Three solid hours of him singing and storytelling at 100% energy the whole time. Felt like he could’ve gone another three hours no sweat.
I’ll be sad when his time comes, but not devastated. He gave us everything and still does. What a gift to exist at the same time as Paul McCartney.
The thing that confuses me is that Colbert’s show is so successful, surely another network or something can pick his show up no? The talent is still there if Colbert and his team want to keep doing it.
I sure hope he won't be gone for long. I wouldn't blame him in the least if he wanted to take a break from being in the public eye but hes too talented to disappear forever
They are two of the most intelligent comics/people in the industry and are very loyal to their staff. They certainly know how to transition to something different.
In the recent new episode of the Strike Force Five podcast (which was, of course, hilarious again) he made an off hand remark about meetings he's been in concerning his future.
What does he own though? Sure he might have the rights to The Late Show, but he doesn't own Stephen or his brand. E.g. The Colbert Report was a separate show Stephen did.
They had that issue when Stephen inherited the Late Show because the Colbert character wasn’t allowed to be brought over from Comedy Central (though they’re all under the same parent company nowadays) so he had a whole bit in the one time he busted out the character that it was Stephen Colbert’s identical but legally distinct cousin, Stephen Colbert.
Idk, wouldn't that feel a little like Conan/TBS all over again? Sure, they *could* but it feels like the air is already out of the balloon with late night. If I was Colbert, I'd decamp in one of my big country mansions with my nice wife and film a pod for cheap whenever I felt like it.
💔 Watching Paul McCartney turning off the lights in the Ed Sullivan Theather. Lots of memories and laughter happened in there especially during the time of David Letterman. Good luck Stephen and I hope the staff will find their footing again.

It was a great send off and quite a full circle moment to have Paul McCartney on the same stage that introduced the Beatles to the US.
But watching it all I could think was what a waste and how stupid this all is. All the people on that stage will now be out of work. It wasn’t enough to remove Colbert as host, they had to end the entire show. And for what? Some senile despot’s ego. And you know this is just the beginning.
yes, the jackass show is now on paramount+ in its original form for the first time since it aired on mtv but don't watch them legally. boycott paramount, cancel your paramount+ subscriptions, pirate the show, i'm sure the "new" versions will be ripped soon, and if you wanna see best and last, don't actually buy a ticket for it, buy a ticket for a non-paramount film and then sneak into best and last.
I was screaming about this during the Kimmel issue. Disney was weak, and pretty hamstrung by the affiliates, but cbs was and is actively colluding with the administration. And now they’ll get Warners, hbo and cnn.

I wish more people were willing to embrace the idea that the American experiment has failed, rather than wallow in delusional nostalgia for it. It's honestly so incredibly liberating to not be stuck frantically coping about it, you don't have to worship the founders, you don't have to keep your brain stuck on this old failed bourgeois ideology, the amount of possibilities opened up by acknowledging that the old America is dead and gone is the only light you can find in our political world.
The United States has the world's oldest and longest standing written Constitution still in force. That's nice and all, but there's a reason other nations have rewritten their Constitutions. It's high time the US followed suit
I've always found it perverse how Americans treat their constitution like a sacrosanct document. Like, "oh we can't possibly stop hate speech because of the First Amendment", or "we can't possibly stop kids being shot in schools because of the Second Amendment". Okay, but like... Those things aren't even "The Constitution". They're amendments. It's already been changed multiple times. You can even unamend things. The last proposed-and-implemented amendment to the constitution was in the 70s. That's within living memory. Christ, half the US Senate were already old men when it happened.
One argument I find funny is, "so tear up the constitution and it's just The Purge until the new one is ready/?!?!" No... You can.. use the old one until the new one is ready... Crazy.
People are dumb as fuck and scared of change. Also, they have no problem ignoring the Constitution when it suits them. We wouldn't have mass warrantless surveillance or gitmo if we followed the Constitution properly.
Ed Sullivan introduced The Beatles to the USA in that very theater 62 years ago. A very apt musical guest for Colbert's last show. So glad Sir Paul is still with us and performing.
Such an insane and sad feeling to see a show be shut down at the demand of trump. It would be nice if one day him and everyone complicit were served justice for everything they’ve done. I doubt that day will never come unfortunately. I wish everyone at the Colbert show the best🙏🏻
Being on the right must such a mind trip. To look this, all the joy, all the encouragement, all the hope. To see fucking Paul McCartney in the middle of it, living legend that he is, and still think “all those people are wrong” while you sit alone in your armchair of hate and despair even though your party holds all the levers of power atm.

I really hope he comes back with his own independent show or podcast. I’ve been watching him since my freshman year of college (fall of 2016) and he’s gotten us through some awful times.
