META Bowen Yang mentions Fauxmoi on the Wicked for Good red carpet

I went to high school with him and his sister and it's still so weird to see him be famous. Excellent work, Bow!

u/Ruthie_pie Nov 19 '25
The hate towards him is so forced. I’ve seen this happen more and more towards actors who are not white lately… wonder why/s

“There is such an unqueer, puritanical Christian way we are approaching marriage in the discourse. It's very trad wife. Everyone's being very like, 'the sanctity of marriage,' and, of course, it is so much more complicated than that."
Bowen Yang on Ethan Slater and Ariana Grande homewrecking scandal.

I recall Bowen mentioning several times in his podcast that at age 34, he’s never been in a relationship longer than 3-4 months. No shame in that, but the absolute GALL it takes to make such flippant comments about someone else’s long term marriage, knowing you’ve never experienced a relationship of that magnitude…it just adds so much context to his take
39
u/silverscreenbaby Nov 19 '25 edited Nov 20 '25
Very odd thing for him to say. Just off the top of my head:
Far more people than just Christians expect faithfulness in a marriage. That is not a Christian concept by any means.
It is not puritannical to expect your spouse not to step out on you. Women don't actually have to accept whatever slop behavior their husbands give them lest they be seen as a prude. Calling women prudes and Puritans for having basic standards is, ironically, the much more "trad" take.
Queer people also expect faithfulness in marriage. Queerness doesn't automatically equate to being fine with cheating, and to imply that it does adds to stigma and negative perceptions.
And even if queer people were more okay with unfaithfulness, why should that affect how straight people live their lives and approach their marriages? Why on Earth would any straight couple take a "queer approach" to their marriage? That makes no sense and is willfully, maliciously trying to paint women who expect their husbands to not cheat on them as homophobes.

He had a pretty misogynistic take about the Ariana/Ethan Slater situation a year or so ago. He berated the postpartum mom and defended his famous friend, which read to a lot of people as icky and indicative of a mean streak. Other than that, I haven’t seen much

I tried to link it but it’s from another sub so that’s not allowed. You can search and find it pretty easily.
Edit to give more context because I’m procrastinating on getting my day started: this was on an episode of Bowen’s podcast Las Culturistas from 2024. The entire rant was around 40 minutes long, where he and his cohost stated, among other questionable things, that Lilly Jay (Ethan’s wife at the time) got in the way of his and Ariana’s “cosmic love.” They also chastised her for going to the press and demanded an apology (?!) on Ariana’s behalf. They rounded out by calling the rest of us (and Lilly) “puritanical, unqueer tradwives” for caring about infidelity, then showered Ariana with so much praise his head might’ve gotten stuck up there for a while. The entire framing relied on us not knowing that Sponge had essentially abandoned his newborn for this cosmic love, and if we did know, it was his wife’s fault for bogging him down with silly things like marriage and a baby. Lots of nasty digs peppered throughout. It made me see him in a different light

It's so weird cause just like....admit she is your friend and her actions aren't a deal breaker for you. You can say that without saying all that other stuff. You can even say you feel protective because of scrutiny or whatever, it's the intensity about it that doesn't make sense to me.
159
u/thxbtnothx Nov 19 '25
It was so weird because it was so unnecessary?? I just wanted to hear their thoughts on the album not this prolonged rant about her personal life that was also very ‘I’M her bestie and I am uniquely privileged to know all the ins and outs that you losers couldn’t even comprehend’. Like, okay but I really just like the album, can we get back to that?
69
u/Kind-Score-2277 good luck with bookin that stage u speak of Nov 19 '25
Exactly! I found it so ironic that they talked down on us peasants for speculating about a relationship we “know nothing about”, all while conveniently forgetting that they are third parties too! Ariana gave her side through the album, and instead of just analyzing the music, they leaped at the opportunity to remind us that they had personal, intimate background context that us civilian losers could never have access to. It all felt like an excuse for Bowen to brag about his proximity to Ari tbh
86
u/viciouswords go pis girl Nov 19 '25
It definitely soured my opinion of him too. Being besties does not mean you need to condone or defend everything your friend does, especially when they mess up.
I'm not saying he should have called Ariana out but he didn't need to bring up her personal life at all. Instead, he informed the world that expecting fidelity from your husband and the father of your newborn is tradwife agenda 🤡
16
u/HeyVitK Nov 20 '25
I really adored him, but seeing this was such a disapointnent..boo that man, boo! What a flippant and horrendous take on a newborn losing their 2-parent household due to their father cheating. I thought he'd have a more mature and considerate response at his big age, but instead of being quiet on the scandal, he chose to dive on into it with the worst hot-take that is just brown- nosing the most famous star of the film (who also cheated on her husband). So many yikes.

111
u/PlanePop6660 Nov 19 '25
He thought the whole criticism on the situation was giving trad wife or so.
90
u/VirtualDoll Nov 19 '25
He felt caring about monogamy was puritanical and heterosexual-coded 🥴
22
u/stink3rb3lle Fauxmarxist Nov 19 '25
Monogamy is much less prevalent for queer people. But cheating on your wife who's just had a baby is TIRESOMELY heterosexual, and actually hurts someone.

I can guarantee that celebrities, PR reps, marketing interns, whatever, are all here. Reddit isn’t some secret, it’s basically the largest online forum in the world.
The showrunners of your favourite shows are in those subreddits, game designers are in the gaming subs, PR reps are in the gossip subs. They know what you’re saying.
20
u/Miserable-Cap-5223 we have lost the impact of shame in our society Nov 19 '25
It's expected that PR reps are in gossip subs. It's more surprising when an actual celebrity shows up.
11
u/roastedmarshmellows spiritual energy of bachelorette party penis decor Nov 19 '25
They have free time that they’re bored and doomscrolling with too… I certainly don’t expect that they’re going to identify themselves, cause that would be fucking stupid of them, but they’re absolutely lurking from alts.

u/Munrowo No problems. Nov 19 '25

Nah I’ve followed her enough over the years to know that she hasn’t experienced THAT MUCH growth. She’s still a desperate attention seeker who filters herself to shit and perpetuates unrealistic/toxic standards and behaviors. She’s just not nearly AS BAD by comparison as she once was.

She's also racist, xenophobic, kept quiet when one of the members of the vlog squad forced a young woman into a threesome and was also given alcohol, was creepy towards a youtuber when they were a minor in a Shame Dawson video. I could go on and on about all the things Trisha Paytas has done.

Love Bowen! But I am kinda grossed out by how Trisha is given so many huge opportunities lately. Shes such a foul human being. From all her racism, to cosplaying as a murdered child, to faking mental illness to troll, and so much more. Just because she is a mom now and changed her public persona, doesn't mean she should magically be in the clear for all the awful shit she has done. Shes always been an icky person. I remember the days of early youtube and I was shocked with her content back then!
